How to use WinMerge with High-DPI Windows setting? - dpi

I was trying to find an alternative for WinMerge to solve my blurry text problem with 150% DPI. Although my question was closed (I consider this mentality unhelpful), but I found the answer so I share it.

You can continue using WinMerge:
Right-click on the program's icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
Choose a bigger font: View -> Select Font...
Note that with Windows 8.1, you can't do this from the start menu, so first open start, find "winmerge" by typing, and then right click and select select "Open File in Location". You will then be able to right click and choose properties in the folder.

Android Studio changed to Ugly Font [duplicate]

Right now I am using the Darcula theme. I want to change the default font to something else. I go into Editor > Colors & Fonts > Font but all the options are greyed out. For Editor Font it shows Show only monospaced fonts as checked with Primary font as Monospaced, but neither of these can be changed. I tried changing the font under Appearance but that just changes the font used around AS and not inside the editor.
All you have to do is click the "Save As" button to create a new profile. You can't change the font because you can't overwrite the default profile
Android Studio The defaultEditor(Editor)TheScheme(Scheme)Is the font cannot be modified, you canSave as,
Save as a new scheme (Scheme),and then change the font size;
Location: File->Settings->Editor->Fonts -> Font & (for Mac : Android Studio -> Preferences)
We can change the font size according to CTRL + mouse wheel which is really easy to use it !!!
To use this feature select File -> Settings -> Editor -> General -> select the checkbox of Change the font size (Zoom) with Ctrl + Mouse Wheel
I hope it's helpful.
After Spending a good quality of time on this issue i finally fixed it...
In Latest Android Studio 3.2 version
Follow it will work for sure...
Step 1: Go to File Select Settings...
Step 2: Select Editor and select Color Scheme from right side window...
Step 3: Create a duplicate scheme by clicking on the setting icon from right side window as shown below image
Step 4: Now select Color Scheme --> Console Font from left side window and follow the image...
point 1...
point 2...
point 3 select the scheme which we create in Step 3
point 4 select the font type you want display text
point 5 select the font size of your wish.
Click on the Apply and Ok...
Step 5: Work 100 percentage...sure...
Find Setting icon from top toolbar and follow the steps accordingly in image attached.
I was able to increase the font, using the follow strategy.
If creating a custom setting doesn't help:
Click on File -> Settings ->Editor and check the field: "Change font-size with CRTL + Mouse Wheel"
Worked for me.
We have to be more careful when doing this. For the first time I have changed the font size of menu by mistake instead of font. First create your own scheme by going to File-->Settings-->Colors & Fonts and then you can make changes to your own scheme. The final procedure is to go to settings(File-->Settings) and then select Editor and Colors & Fontsin the left bar menu. Then select the arrow on the left side of Colors & Fonts and then select Font in the left menu bar. You will get options to change your values. Remember you can only change values to your own sheme.
Android Studio 3.3
Preferences>Editor>Color Scheme Font Select the cog next to the Scheme:and choose Duplicate. On the same screen, choose your desired font and select Apply to preview or OK to store and exit preferences.
For Android Studio 3.4.1 Go to File -> Settings -> Collapse Editor -> Font -> Select the required font -> Click OK.
Done.

What causes control text to get cut off?

My VB6 application is having a layout problem on certain end user PCs, but so far we are unable to identify what is causing this.
Normal layout:
Broken layout:
The text on the left are the captions of the radio buttons. The text in the upper right is a label.
I am familiar with two different settings in Windows Control Panel which can affect text size, and initially we suspected this was the cause. In Windows 10, they are:
Control Panel >
Appearance and Personalization >
Display >
(1) "Use these display settings" > "Customize your display"
or
(2) "Set a custom scaling level"
(Terminology was different in earlier Windows versions but I think the features were the same?)
However upon testing these settings with our app neither reproduces the problem.
What else might be causing the text layout issue shown in the image?
This appears to be caused by a Windows bug.
The description & fix as mentioned in the source website are as follows:
if you have a high resolution screen at install time, Win7 will install a larger font set (125%) by default. If you then choose go back to the standard font size (100%), Windows will keep some of the large fonts even though everything else is adjusted for standard fonts, causing programs that use these fonts to break because the text will not always fit inside the GUI.
By editing the Windows registry you can get the original, intended fonts back:
Open the start menu and type regedit and then press Enter.
Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts
Find the value MS Sans Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24
Change from SSERIFF.FON to SSERIFE.FON
Find MS Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24
Change from SERIFF.FON to SERIFE.FON
Finally find Courier 10,12,15
Change from COURF.FON to COURE.FON
Restart your system in order for the changes to take effect!
The exact font names may vary depending on locale settings.
I was able to create the problem scenario as described here on Windows 10, and that reproduced the problem with our VB6 app. I think that confirms this as the fix.
A Microsoft blog post seems to be the authoritative original source of this information.

How to restore VBA Editor to its initial settings?

How to restore the VBA Editor to its intial settings ? I have some troubles with macro and projects explorer windows settings, after some bad manipulations.
The only way I know how to accomplish this is to edit the registry.
Close All Office programs
Open a command prompt and type regedit
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\VBA\6.0\Common
Right click on Common and Export to save the *.reg file somewhere safe. This is your back up. Double clicking this file will restore your current settings.
Right click on Common and Delete it. Doing this will remove all of
its subkeys that hold your personal settings.
The "Common" key will be recreated the next time you close the VBA Editor along with any changes to the settings you may make.
I have the same issue, it's simple:
TOOLS
OPTIONS
DOCKING
Then select Object Browser, Project Explorer and that's all.
I had the same problem and realised that if I double click the blue heading of a minimal floating menu, such as the Project-VBAProject menu, it would resize and fit in with the other menus that are expanded. With a bit of moving around and double clicking the headers of the menus that I had selected from the VIEW option, I could get the screen back to the way it originally looked at the default setting of the VBA editor.

Solution Using a Mac and Excel 2016.
I found that I could drag the, e.g., project explorer (pe) window toward the edge of the vb window and the outline of the pe window moves and adjusts once you get close enough to the edge. This also works with the other windows as you bring them into view.
My default view is project explorer upper left, properties lower left. To return these to be in that order, drag the one to that location (which will fill that whole area) then drag the other one right on top of that one. That stacks them in the same column and then you can adjust their size within those locations.
I had this same issue and fought with it for literally 2 days. Finally figured it out!!!
xD First close the Project Explorer and the Properties windows using the X at the top right. Then go to Options under the Docking tab. Uncheck all boxes. Close the options window and if desired check to see that everything is undocked. Now go back to Options>Docking and check all the boxes you had checked (default is all but object browser). Your windows should have returned to default.
This may not solve the OPs original question of "default" for all, but in my case and possibly others I was looking to re-dock the "Project Explorer" and have modules pop up next to it like default. I'm not sure about other settings, but this is how I restored the above behavior.
In the project explorer right click and select "Dockable". Then insert a module and maximize it. This should restore what I consider default behavior.
Actually, it is very easy. You just have to go to View Tab then Click on the Project Explorer & Properties Window. It worked for me because I lost these two and now I got it by doing this. I hope so you will get the same result as well. View the image for more clarity.
Simple steps. Works for Mac , maybe windows too
Close all the tabs in the VBE
View --> Code . This will occupy entire space
After that ,view --> project explorer. this will pop up a tab, drag that tab to the top left corner. It auto fills into a small column which you can drag according to your preference .
Now select view --> properties window and drag the tab to bottom left.
Additional step ( if you use locals window )
Select locals window from view and drag it to the bottom.
Right click any of the window you want to move and click "Dockable". This should allow you to move all the windows as you want and place them as you wish.
I had all menus and windows missing, like no "File", no "Edit", no "View", etc.
Here's what I did:
Closed Excel
Opened the Registry Editor
Navigated to HKEY_CURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\VBA
Right clicked on VBA and renamed to VBA_old
Closed the Registry Editor
Opened Excel
Opened Visual Basic
…and voila, VBA was back to normal!
After that, I:
Reopened the Registry Editor and saw that VBA had been recreated
Deleted VBA_old
I'm not aware of a 'reset' command but the starting point would be to go to the View menu and start by setting the Code, Project Explorer and Properties windows and then the Toolbars>Standard (toolbar) perhaps?

How to add the image / icon to the "Uninstall a Program" list in the Control Panel

I would like to add the image / icon that I currently have for the executable to my program instllation in the list in "Uninstall a Program" window. Now I can see a small Default Image that comes up. However I would like to have a image like how other installations have like the "Blue S" for Skype, etc.
Do I have an option to add it via Visual Studio ? I use InstallSheild Limited Edition for Packaging.
Frankly, I do not know the correct keyword to search for it in Google. I tried but in vain. Apologies if its a straight forward explanation.
I have attached the image to explain better.
The answer is pretty straight forward but I was not able to find any relating documentation on this. You can set the icon for the add/remove programs window from via the InstallSheild wizard itself.
This is illustrated as in "InstallSheild Limited Edition"
• In the InstallSheild Project Assistant Screen, Choose Application Information (The first step in the wizard)
• From the left pane, "other places" choose the "General Information" Link
• Click Yes, in the popup that shows up
• Scroll Down to the "Add/Remove Programs" Part of the List
• Choose the icon of your choice in the "Display Icon" field and save the settings

Eclipse - changing font size in project/package explorer

I'm using two environments, one with 24" screen, second one with 15". I need default font size of content of project/package explorer in the first one, but small font size for the other one.
Is there any way how to change it within eclipse? I mean not within operating system ? Because it always influences other font size on desktop. I'm reffering to this question.
If there is no way, please describe how would you do it in Linux - distribution independently.
I have a 17 inch Mac Book Pro which is frequently hooked up to 27 inch high res display and the font size in the package explorer was way too small. Eclipse is supposed to respect the OS settings but it turns out on Mac OS X the default setting for eclipse is to use small Fonts rather than the standard os fonts.
on Mac OS X you can change edit the eclipse.ini file and remove -Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.carbon.smallFonts restart eclipse and presto you will find that your package explorer looks brilliant with reasonable sized fonts.
You make have to use the Finder option "Show Contents" on the Eclipse.app to find the eclipse.ini file, and, the smallFonts line may occur more than once in the .ini file.
For Mac OS X, download TinkerTool from http://bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html and then change the font size for "Help tags".
That changed the font size of package explorer for me. :)
I can say pretty confidently that you cannot change that font size from within eclipse, only choice is on the operating system. And on ubuntu you are able to change that font size.
I work in Android development. I have ADT installed which comes which eclipse. The Windows about states that the eclipse installed has following components.
This product includes Eclipse Platform, JDT, CDT, EMF, GEF and WTP,
and Version : 4.2.1.v20130118-173121-9MF7GHYdG0B5kx4E_SkfZV-1mNjVATf67ZAb7
and BuildID : M20130204-1200
With the above version, I am able to change the font within eclipse. The process to change the font is very simple
1) Click on Window menu.
2) Click on Preferences sub menu.
3) Open General tab. (Left navigation)
4) Open Appearances sub tab. (Left navigation)
5) Click on Colors and Font option. (Left navigation)
6) Expand Basic option. (Right panel)
7) Click on Text Font (last option in Basic option)
8) Click on Edit Button.
9) Change the font which you want.
The screen shot of above option looks like...
For windows check below link:
Window > Preferences > General > Appearance > Colors and Fonts > View
and Editor Folders > Tree and Table font for views
https://www.bootng.com/2021/01/change-project-explorer-tree-view-font.html
For linux: Check out this link, it was very useful to me! I'm using the author's favourite option and works seamlessly.
http://techtavern.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/smaller-font-sizes-for-eclipse-on-linux/
For Eclipse Oxygen on Sierra, deleting
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.carbon.smallFonts
from Eclipse.app » Contents » Eclipse » eclipse.ini
didn't change anything visible
