I have a page item which has sublayout which is data sourced to data item, My question is If I used solr search to search for a term that is contained within the content of the data item; Should the page item be returned by solr search or should I apply custom code to do that?
I am using sitecore 7.2 and solr version is 4.10.2-0.
SOLR will return whatever you index, in this instance since it is just an item then it will return the item itself and not the link to the page that this item is referenced on.
Instead what you need to do is index the datasourced items as part of the main content item on which they are referenced. You can either do this as a post-processor/computed field or use a module like Sitecore Datasource Indexer.

I have managed to get search results using LINQ way, I can access different fields of the searched document, including Title, Url, Path, etc.
I can also access Content property of the document but that is not showing actual content of the document. It is showing Title of the document separated by -, for example if the searched document Title is Video news items, Content property contains Video-news-items|Video news items.
How can I get actual content of the searched document?
Code I am using to search document is explained in another post.
Based on your other question, I assume you are using the base SearchResultItem class. You can inherit from this class and add Properties that map to specific fields in your items. you can then just use the properties as normal. This article explains the process:
Sitecore 7 POCO's explained
If you haven't yet done any research into Sitecore 7 search yet, I would suggest that you do some. The concepts may not be familiar.
I think this is showing meta title for this page
How the search everything kind of application is indexing & keeping track of data into its search indexes.
Recently I have been working on Apache Solr which is producing amazing results for a search. But it was for one particular products catalog section that is being searched. As Solr is a stores it's data document, we indexed searchable fields as document in solr. I'm not sure how it can be used to build a search everything kind of search? And how should I index data into Solr?
By search everything I mean, to search into different module for information like Customers, Services, Accounts, Orders, Catalog, Support Ticket, etc. So search return results which is combined as a result from a single search form and user don't need to go into different forms for search that module?
Do I need to build different indexes for each such data models or store them into solr as single document? What is the best strategy to implement this.
You can store all that data in a single index with each document having an extra field that stores its type (Customer, Order, etc.). For the within-module search, just restrict the search query to documents of that type. For the Search All functionality, use copyField to copy all the relevant fields in each document type into one big field, and search with the document type field unconstrained.
I created a list and added some items to it. From a view ( not related to this list), I am trying to access the items of this list.
I can get the list of items by using the following query :
contentManager.Query<ContentPart>("myContentTypeName")
This gives me a list.
But, consider this scenario -
-> I create an myContentTypeName and add it to a list.
-> I create another Item but didn't add it to any list.
The above query returns ALL the items of that type. How can I filter this query and get only the items that are a part of the list?
Thanks!
If you are using >= 1.4 version of Orchard, use the projector module. Starting with 1.4 List is pretty much deprecated. If you still need to use the List, I think what you want to do is query for the List content items, not the items within it.
I'm trying to dynamically construct URLs in an ASP.NET MVC website that point back to a SharePoint list view with a Key Filter enabled for a managed metadata field (which uses a TermSet).
If I configure a navigation hierarchy for the managed metadata field, I see the following in the URL:
TreeField=MyCategory&TreeValue=0C37852B-34D0-418E-91C6-2AC25AF4BE5B
However, if configure the managed metdata field as a KeyFilter, I see the following in the URL:
#ServerFilter=FilterField1=MyCategory-FilterValue1=247-FilterLookupId1=1-FilterOp1=In
Where does the FilterValue1 value of 247 come from? It is not the database id of the MyCategory term. It is also not present anywhere on the Term object when loading the taxonomy through the SharePoint API. Is there a way to construct the query string to use the guid for the term (or better yet, the label, which I know will be unique).
The value comes from the taxonomy hidden list. Use the following method GetWssIdSoftTerm to get the int value the above urls are using to filter the data.

I want the lookup field to be filtered to only display titles from the current document library (meaning the document library that the user is currently in). I cannot specify the document library b/c I don't want to have to define a new lookup column for each new document library...instead I'm hoping to do this as a custom content type that can be used in any document library.
It would ideally be deployed as a feature.
Look into http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms446361.aspx">SharePoint Custom Fields.

This kind of feature does not exist on SharePoint OTB.
Take look at this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/sharepointadmin/thread/722EE26B-EC33-4618-8041-FAA92E149DE8. It provides some solutions though.
