Folks,
I have Kali linux running on VM machine..there are 2 interfaces configured on this machine..1 interface is configured as "share with my Mac" and the other interface is configured as "Private to Mac".And i believe "private to Mac" option will allow me to connect my VM linux machine to the local machine.... ifconfig command doesn't show any output. i have manually configured the IP address to both interface by editing vi /etc/network/interfaces and restarted the network services using the command "/etc/init.d/networking restart"...but still ifconfig doesn't give any result....
Actually i want to communicate on port ssh from my local machine to the linux vm machine..since the machines do not communicate each other.i am not able to work anymore..Can someone please have a look in this issue and let me know what changes are required to complete my requirement...

Have you tried sudo ifconfig ? If it doesn't work the problem could be the drivers of your network card. I'm not sure this will works but you can watch this tutorial How to install network card to Kali

The Linux virtual machine on Azure, the problem encountered, can not connect through rdp (Microsoft Remote Desktop). Throws a connection error, respectively. I use MacOs (I tried it with Windows, the same problem).
The question is what could be the problem?
There is no Microsoft RDP for Linux. You have to connect via SSH on 22.
If you have diagnostics enabled on the Linux VM, you can use the serial console. Just click on the VM in the Azure Portal -> Serial Console.
If you really want to connect via RDP, then you can try installing xrdp on your VM, but it really depends what flavor of Linux you have deployed.
sudo apt-get install xrdp
sudo service xrdp start
Don't forget you need access to TCP port 3389.

How to permanently configure static IP Address of Bitnami Backendless Standalone Linux version?
The Bitnami VM comes configured to use DHCP.
The Bitnami FAQ says you can change the IP address using the command below:
An alternative approach is to configure the network manually and assign a static IP address to the virtual machine. For example, if your local network uses IP addresses of the form 192.168.1.X and you know that the IP address 192.168.1.234 is unassigned, manually assign this to the virtual machine by executing the command below at the virtual machine console:
sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.234 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
Unfortunately, the IP Address is only assigned until the server is rebooted. After rebooting the VM, the IP address is dynamically allocated using DHCP.
ifconfig changes the IP Address only during the system runtime.
Depending on your Linux distribution, you've got to change the network setting by editing the related files.
Debian/Ubuntu
$ sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces
Fedora/Centos
$ sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

I have windows 7 with Oracle Virtualbox 5.0.4 and Ubuntun image 15.10. I notice when I disable VirtualBox DHCP, and make network settings as Bridge, I could ping or ssh from host to guest. But at this time, I could not download package or sudo apt-get install xxx from internet.
when I still disable VirtualBox, I make network as NAT, then I could download package, but could not ping from host to guest.
How could I do both ping from host to guest and download from internet at guest(virtual box)?
Why I am doing that? We have project using kafka storm, solr as backend. (log management system). Client side could be Eclipse in windows, why I could put kakfa storm solr in virtualbox or vagrant, so that saving developer setting up development environment time.
You can use normal bridge mode but this requires a external DHCP server. Normally in every office network is one. This server provides all needed networking/routing information. After you boot your VM you can test in a terminal if the VM is in the same network as your host.

I'm trying to connect Winscp with virtual machine. I'm working on Windows, and this problem is killing me for 5 hours. Studied a lot of examples, but I can't find out what is the problem. I tried to connect with putty to, but connection is every time refused. Tried to connect with every protocol, but didn't help. I even can't install ssh into Ubuntu, because something is blocking but not firewall(failed to fetch us archive ubuntu com). Port forwarding too wasn't very helpful.
1st Adapter is NAT, and second host-only.
Problem is that I need to enter home directory, and add some files, so I'm trying to find the easiest way to do this.
I would really appreciate any help. Here is my ifconfig, ip a, and interfaces picture.
1
Thanks!
Use the following step to configure.
1- Run ipconfig /all on your windows machine and see which ip are assigned to your virtual adopters.
2- Assign the same range ip to your virtual machine. For example:
If on virtual adopter ip is: 192.168.130.1
Then assign ip to your vm as: 192.168.130.*
and set gateway to : 192.168.130.1
and restart the service network and check the reachability by pinging from both side.
3- If You able to ping then you will be able to use internate on your VM. Then install the ssh.
Now you will be able to use.

I am at the stage of learning Linux.
I have just installed Fedora20, but I cannot connect to internet with
my Wireless USB adapter....
Can anyone help me to use internet in Linux fedora 20?
This question is probably going to get migrated to somewhere like Super User, but just to give you a starting point, does the Wireless adapter register as an interface? Run ifconfig -a on the terminal and look out for a wlan0.
Then run ifconfig wlan0 up, and you can then do iw dev wlan0 scan to list access points that the card can see. You can then do some Googling about connecting a wireless card using wpa-supplicant.
If you can't see a wlan0 interface in ifconfig it could be that you don't have the drivers for your Wifi card. You'll need to Google which drivers are required and you might be able to get a kernel module or driver binary from somewhere on the internet.
