I've got a problem converting a rewrite rule from Apache to nginx. In Apache I used a .htaccess file containing this

RewriteRule ^(.*)-single.*php$ single.php?id=$1 [L]
</IfModule>
to rewrite URL for a gallery (displaying a single image). This .htaccess file is located in the specific folders but the tree can be like this:
/galleries/album1
/galleries/set1/album2
/galleries/set2/set3/album3
And the Folder name "Album" can vary (europe, horses, whatever)
The rule itself I would rewrite like this
rewrite ^/(.*)-single.*php$ /single.php?id=$1 break;
but how can I apply this rule only if for the specific folders? Thought about looking for a specific file as a condition (which only exists in the folders I would like to apply the rule) but I can't figure it out.

Trying to start with a simple example:
If someone is browsing a gallery he can use a link which opens the image. This link can look like this (autogenerated)
...rvserver.net/galleries/album-set/album-2/DSC01154-single.php
This link for social media use but it only works when it Looks like this
...rvserver.net/galleries/album-set/album-2/single.php?id=DSC01154
so you see the only thing changed is the last part of the URL. The front part (until .../galleries/) is always the same and the last part (XXX-single.php) too. Maybe this helps

I got the following urls:
domain.com/categoryA/articleA
domain.com/categoryA/articleB
I want to redirect:
domain.com/categoryA/articleA -> domain.com/categoryB/articleA
domain.com/categoryA/articleB -> domain.com/categoryB/articleB
but leave it as it is and do not redirect the main folder: domain.com/categoryA/
I tried to use the rule:
RewriteRule ^categoryA/(.*)$ /categoryB/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
but it also redirect domain.com/categoryA/ to domain.com/categoryB/
How to exclude from the above rewrite rule the redirection of the main folder (categoryA), but still redirect all that is in the folder (and then change also the root folder)?
I am looking for a solution that is SEO friendly (I got the same articles in two categories, but want still to have indexed domain.com/categoryA, but the rest only as domain.com/categoryB/xxx.

With your shown samples/attempts, please try following Rules in your .htaccess file. Please make sure to place this rule under your domain redirect rule(if its there), also make sure to clear your browser cache before testing your URLs.
RewriteRule ^categoryA/([\w-]+)/?$ /categoryB/$1 [R=301,NC,L]
I'm going to try and make this as simple as possible, I have a POST form that sends information called $searchid, I want to redirect it to look like a directory
I want to take the following information: (Server, folder, file, post)
localhost/shorts/profile.php?searchid=12345
And I want to make it look like (Server, fakefolder(id), fakefolder(post))
localhost/id/12345/
Also, is there A way to incorporate the sitename, as all the htaccess ive seen before hasnt had it and it's been showing the entire path from C drive.
In htaccess in the root :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^id/([0-9]+)/?$ /sports/profile.php?searchid=$1 [NC,L]
This will rewrite
/id/numbers
to
/sports/profile.php?searchid=numbers
and allow you to access the page /sports/profile.php?searchid=numbers using the clean url /id/numbers .
I want to add rewriterules that works in local environment (localhost) and on my liveserver.
Why?
I don't want to change rules when I test my project locally and upload it to the liveserver.
Adding Rules
Here an example
(ANY-URL)index.php?page=somepage
change to
(ANY-URL)/somepage
So I used a rewritemod generator and pasted this into it:
index.php?page=somepage
The rewriterule I got, looks like this: (of course my .htacces starts with RewriteEngine On)
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)$ /?page=$1 [L]
When I try to get to (http:)
//localhost/myproject/development/index.php?page=login it sends me to the root directory of my local development envirment. But the URL in the adressline doesn't change.
Testing
Of course I tried some other Rules by pasting the whole URL into the generator just to test if the rewrite thing works.
Also here the URL doesn't change to short-url but the server cant find stylesheets and javascripts anymore. I got redirected to the index.php
Possible solutions?
Maybe it has something todo with that "RewriteBase"?
Do i have to set a basepath?

Since the htaccess is located inside a sub-directory, use RewriteBase:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /myproject/development/
Once that is done, you use the base element in your php/html files. This will resolve the addresses for the scripts/stylesheets in your pages.
<base href="/myproject/development/" />
Now, the rewrites in htaccess would be:
RewriteRule ^((?!index\.php)[^/]+)/?$ index.php?page=$1 [L]
right now my url looks like this:
http://domain.com/en/c/product%2C-product2%2C-product3/82
where last number is category numer.
And im trying to rewrite it and redirect user to url which should look this one:
http://domain.com/82/product-product2-product3
The clue is I want to hide "en/c/" part and clean url from commas and blank spaces. I'm completely green in rewriting.

You can use these 2 rules in your root .htaccess for that:

In order for this to work, we need to tell the server to internally redirect all requests for the URL "url1" to "url2.php". We want this to happen internally, because we don't want the URL in the browser's address bar to change.
To accomplish this, we need to first create a text document called ".htaccess" to contain our rules. It must be named exactly that (not ".htaccess.txt" or "rules.htaccess"). This would be placed in the root directory of the server (the same folder as "url2.php" in our example). There may already be an .htaccess file there, in which case we should edit that rather than overwrite it.

I need some help with .htaccess. I've been using URL rewrites, but not conditions, and I'm pretty sure I need them seeing as I can't get this working.
The URL structure I need is -> forum/catnamehere (which shows the page called catnamehere)
and child structure -> forum/catnamehere/fornamehere (which shows the child page of the cat)
However, somehow I fail to do this, making me believe I need conditions.
You should be able to do this with two rules.
Put your .htaccess file in the forum directory, and add the following:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)(/?)$ complexForumPath.php?catName=$1 [QSA]
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)(/?)$ complexForumPath.php?catName=$1&subPage=$2 [QSA]
The first rule will grab stuff like forum/abc123_
And the second rule will grab forum/abc123_/abc123_
