LogCat Missing from Android Studio 3.1.3

I recently installed Android Studio 3.1.3 on my laptop in order to start learning android/mobile development (I am still new to all of this). The LogCat option seems to be missing though (refer to images below)
What I tried to do in order to fix the problem:
-uninstalling and reinstalling android studio (along with updating it...)
-researching the problem (no useful results as all the solutions were to press alt-6 or go to View->Tool Windows)
It would be a huge help/relief if someone knows how to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance.
I know it is an old question, but I encountered this problem at least twice so it might help someone.
The problem seems to be the path of the project you're looking at.
It should be pointing to the folder containing the 'app' and 'gradle' folders inside your project.
Go to File > Open
Select the folder with the 'app' folder inside your project
Press 'Open'
If you see something like this you can now probably open the Logcat window with alt-6 or View->Tool Windows.
Note that for some reason, it didn't work for me at first until I opened the app folder, run a build and then opened the folder containing the app folder.
You need to sync your project and then Logcat will show up
Just in case anyone stumbles upon this as I did: If you are developing a react-native app, be sure that you import only the android folder of the project.
If you import the whole project, then among other things, logcat is nowhere to be found!
Try pressing Alt+6 on Windows or CMD+6 on Mac.
I closed "Logcat" by accident via right click -> "Remove From Sidebar".
I was able to restore it with these steps:
Launch your current App on an emulator.
This should create a "Run" Tab on the Sidebar.
Click on the "Run" Tab and find the "Modify Run Configuration..."
(Wrench) icon and launch it.
Change the tab to "Miscellaneous".
Check the box next to "Show logcat automatically"
This is not a solution if Logcat doesn't even show up in View->Tool Windows!
But if it does: click it and it may show up at a different location than it used to be. Without recognizing I had shoved it to the top left where the project tab is shown. You can now click on the gear wheel on the tab and select move to bottom left (that is the default location).
This was the solution for my "logcat not showing".
Press Alt+6 inside Android Studio to open Logcat monitor.
Then, Do the following steps:-
Open Android Studio.
Open Android Monitor Window(at the bottom of android studio).
Here you will see the drop down in right corner.
Select Show only selected Application.

Android Studio Project Structure has changed

Usually when I open my Android Studios and I click on new project it then comes up with another page that asks you to enter Application name: etc...Something has changed somewhere for some reason because that doesn't come up. If I click on a recent project it opens up but at the top left hand corner where you can change the view to project, package, Android etc. Android is no longer in there and the drop down options are now Project, Packages, Scratch, Problems etc. How can I get back the normal view? Or can someone tell me what could have caused this issue?
Thanks!
Just restore Studio default layout by Shift+F12

Can't add a new activity on android studio

I'm trying to improve my android development skills, so working on some project about it. In my project, I added a new "Navigation Drawer Activity", then I deleted it because I wanted to create a new one but I can not able to add even another type of activitiy. Android studio adds ,
<activity
android:name=".ExampleActivity"
android:label="#string/title_activity_main" >
</activity>
tag in AndroidManifest.xml but It doesn't create any classes and xml layout files.
Also studio says:
ide internal error occurred android studio.
I tried regenerate R.java and clean my project ,but it doesn't work. How can I get rid of this problem?
Try to add a simple JavaClass and write an "extends Activity" behind the class name. And put this new Activity in the Manifest like in your example. You can add a menu and a layout like this, too, when you add xml-Files in the layout and menu folders. This should work.
I can not find a exact solution to that problem. Re-installed the Android Studio . It does the solution manually
If it's about how Activities is not showing up as an option in either the shortcut menu in the Layout folder or File + New in the menu, you can try File + "Sync Project with Gradle files" and give it some time.
This also adds options to the Tools menu (great if AVD or SDK Manager is missing).

Invisible folders in Android Studio Project view

I have recently switched to Android Studio and try to migrate an ADT project.
In the app/src/main/res/ directory I have the values, values-v11 and values-v14 folder. But in the Studio's Project view only the "values" folder is displayed. Why? How to resolve this?
Android Studio puts them by default into one view, physically there are still in different folders. If you want to change this, just change the project perspective in the project view on the left side.

Android studio no main activity, no layouts on a new project

I installed new Android Studio. I created new Project and asked the wizard to create main activity. But there were no layouts, no main activity class, no nothing. Error on trying to make new Java class files. The new project tree looks like this:
No (main/java) folder.
No (res/layout) folder.
Other words project is useless.
From what i learned is that you may be picking the "no layout" option when prompted to pick one. Try picking the basic activity and the rest of the files will show
After creating the project, you need to go to File menu and then Import Project. Then browse to the location of your project and import it. Then you will see all of these files and folders. I had this problem too, and it seems to be something that they overlooked in the newer versions of Android Studio (which is quite pathetic if you ask me).
Empty Activity
Choose "Empty Activity" instead of "No Activity",
while creating a NEW PROJECT in Android Studio.
I don't know if anyone is having the same problem right now but i solved this issue by changing the Android Gradle plugin version and the Gradle version.
For doing this you have to open the project you're having issues with and click on
File->Project Structure->Project
and there you will see the two options.
Android Gradle Plugin Version 4.0.0 and Gradle version 6.1.1 worked for me. After that I went to the file directory, right click on the package folder "com.example.myProject" and manually created an empty activity. The layout folder with my new activity was created automatically after that.
I found it's because I changed the Java runtime version before through the Android Studio plugin Choose Runtime. I changed to JDK 8 from JDK 11 then the problem occured. It worked for me to change back to JDK 11 through plugin Choose Runtime.
Try
Typing main activity (without quotes) in the search box and
Press enter.
For me it got restored. Search window is useful in finding many hidden tools quickly.
I created a new activity by right clicking on java then selected activity and the layout file was automatically written
When you open a new project, you can't select "empty project" you have to select and activity project. I just went through this had to delete my project and start a new one now everythings there.
