At https://portal.azure.com , in the Browse All Resources page, there is a Name column. How can I change the name of a resource?
I have been looking around, but I cannot find that option. Is it not allowed?
I already changed the Virtual Machine host name, but for consistency, I would like the Name matches the host name, otherwise I will always have to remember that foo_x virtual machine matches the machine with host name foo_y and with domain name foo_z.cloudapp.net.
You can not change VM name in the portal as it is DNS name (i.e. *.cloudapp.net) which belongs to the cloud service. If you want to change the DNS name, you'll need to delete the cloud service, recreate it using the new name, and then redeploy the VM inside of it(delete the VM while retaining all the Disks that were attached to it, then recreate the VM with the new name and reattach the Disks that were attached to the original VM).

in the /var/www/html directory I have many folders which contain websites like 'store/', and to access a website through my LAN I enter in the address bar 'myserveripaddress/store'.
I created a DNS file to access the website with a custom name but I don't know what to put in the file, I tried:
customname A myserveripaddress/store
but it didn't work, the only one that works is:
customname A serveripaddress
but it doesn't take me to the website under 'store/' directory for example.
Is there a solution?
DNS does not work this way. In this instance, DNS points domain at a server, but it is to the server how it responds to that request.
to get this to work, you would need to create separate web server configs for each of the "sub-websites" and then point the DNS record at domain name listed in that config.

Is it possible to assign a private IP to a VM nic which can then be referred to internally as myname.uksouth.cloudapp.azure.com (for example)?
this would be possible with private dns, you can either create and manage your own dns server inside the vnet and point vms to that, or create a private dns zone in azure and link that to a vnet (although, I'm not sure dns zones for azure.com are supported, even private ones).

I have a workflow/pipeline in Azure which connects to third party FTP (via linked service) and get files on regular basis.
It was all working fine, till third party introduced white listing of IP's, and now they are asking me to provide static IP's or range. Unless white listed, I will not be able to get my pipeline working.
Now my question is. How to provide my IP address?
I know which region my ADF works in (North-Europe) and I know my linked service uses AutoResolve-IR.
Will solution be to go with, self hosted IR? If yes, then how will I know the IP of my IR?
They seem to support static IP addresses for Data Factory recently. Announcement: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-data-factory/azure-data-factory-now-supports-static-ip-address-ranges/ba-p/1117508
Here is the list of IPs for North Europe as per https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/data-factory/azure-integration-runtime-ip-addresses

I am trying to create two VMs, one WS2012 and second Win8.1. I want them to be able to connect to each other through cloud only virtual network.
When I am creating VMs I dont see my virtual network. All their locations(south central US) are same.
This is what I used to create VNet - article.
Pretty much keeping everything default except for location.
UPDATE:
Turns out it was an issues of subscriptions getting mixed up. I am co-admin on other two subscriptions, and seems like my network and VM were created in different subscriptions hence I could not see my network in the drop down when I was creating the VM.
Probably because you are creating the VMs using the quick create button instead of using From Gallery.
Navigate New >> Compute >> Virtual Machine >> From Gallery.
Follow the wizard and select your Virtual Network. Deploy both VMs on the same Vnet and you should have direct connectivity.

I have a dnn 7 instance I am thinking of moving to windows azure. How do I configure the DNS for the various portals. I am aware that you use a cname record with the dns to point to the top level/host portal. But where do you point the "sub" portals cname record. Is it at the same host portal's azure address ie: mysite.azurewebsites.net.
Or is there another way to do this?
thanks in advance
You have to direct all the traffic you need to your instance(s) (i.e. yoursites.azurewebsites.net).
But you can also use A records, not only CNAME records. Please read carefully this article.
