I am using the following IF statement in Excel:
=IF(W41="Please Select",0,IF(W41="Plant Hire","XPH",IF(W41="Plant Sales","SPH",IF(W41="Crane Hire","XCH",IF(W41="Crane Sales","SCS",IF(W41="General X-Hire","GXH",IF(W41="Operations","XOP",IF(W41="Goods / Services","GSE",0))))))))
However it won't let me add any more IFs as it is telling me I have reached the maximum allowed. I need to add another six like so:
IF(W41="Plant","XPL",IF(W41="Whale","SWFM",IF(W41="Fire","FTH", etc
Please can someone show me what I would need to do to complete the formula?
This would be easier to do with a lookup table. List all the possible W41 values in column Y and all the corresponding codes in the same row in column Z then use this formula
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(W41,Y:Z,2,0),0)

Without using VBA, your best option would be the "CHOOSE()" function.
Try something like this for any number > 0:
=IF(AND(MOD(ABS(A1),100)>10,MOD(ABS(A1),100)<14),"th",CHOOSE(MOD(ABS(A1),10)+1,"th","st","nd","rd","th","th","th","th","th","th"))
You can set up a named "key" separately, much like the table you are showing, and then reference the key to replace any number with the desired output.
You can then indexmatch/vlookup the number, referencing the table, to find the output.
For ex:
=vlookup($A1,key,2,FALSE)
you could use nested IF functions and RIGHT like this
=IF(OR(RIGHT(H2,2)="11",RIGHT(H2,2)="12",RIGHT(H2,2)="13"),CONCAT(H2,"th"),IF(RIGHT(H2,1)="1",CONCAT(H2,"st"),IF(RIGHT(H2,1)="2",CONCAT(H2,"nd"),IF(RIGHT(H2,1)="3",CONCAT(H2,"rd"),CONCAT(H2,"th")))))

I am new to here. If I have any mistake in making new post, Please tell me and I am ready to correct my mistake.
For above pic, I want to extract the 2 smallest values in column D respectively between row 77 and row 84, and between row 84 and 97. The resulting values are shown in P77 and P84 respectively.
How should I write the excel formula for it? Or it needs VBA to code it?

There are lots of functions/ways to calculate Minimum in addition to the MIN function and it is worth being familiar with them as you will require different ones according to your data.
So quick rundown of some of the main offerings:
SMALL function:
I would consider also the more versatile SMALL function
=SMALL(D77:D84,1) in cell P77
=SMALL(D84:D97,1) in cell P84
You put the array (the range of cells to compare) then the k-th smallest item in that range that you want to retrieve e.g. put 1 to get the smallest, as above, comparable to MIN function, or 2 to get the second smallest etc.

SMALL(array, k)
The SMALL function syntax has the following arguments:
Array Required. An array or range of numerical data for which you

AGGREGATE Function:
Consider the even more versatile AGGREGATE function which can cope with hidden rows in the range, errors etc. You can specify a host of additional requirements whilst still getting the minimum value
General syntax for first form:
AGGREGATE(function_num, options, ref1, [ref2], …)
Function 5 is Minimum. Options are viewable at link I gave but 7 is ignore errors and hidden rows. So, you could use:
=AGGREGATE(5,7,D77:D84)
The AGGREGATE option above is the only version that will still return the minimum correctly if there is an error in the range D77:D84 e.g. a DIV/0 error.
SUBTOTAL Function:
Similar to the AGGREGATE function is the SUBTOTAL function.
You can use SUBTOTAL(5, D77:D84) where 5 specifies you want the minimum for the range. This will not ignore errors. SUBTOTAL(105,D77:D84) will ignore hidden rows though.
Simply put the formula '=Min(D77:D84)' in cell P77
and '=Min(D84:D97)' in cell P84
I have a table that I want to find the top X people in each of the different groups.

I've ranked the top 5 people by number by using =index($A$2:$A$8,match(large($B$2:$B$8,1),$B$2:$B$8,0)). The 1 in the LARGE function I linked to a ranked range so that when I dragged down it changed up the number.
What I would like to do next is rank the top x number of people in each group. So top 3 in group 1.
I tried =index($A$2:$A$8,match("1"&large($B$2:$B$8,1),$C$2:$C$8&$B$2:$B$8,0)) but it didn't seem to work.

EDIT: After looking at the answers below I have realised why they are not working for me. My actual data that I want to use the formula with have multiple entries of numbers. I have adjusted the example data to show this. The problem I have is that if there are duplicate numbers then it returns both of the names even if one is not in the group.

Use the following formula in the example above in cell F2 and copy down and to the right as needed.

In the header row provide the group numbers. or come up with a formula to augment and reset the group number as you copy down based on your X number in your question.
Explanation:
The AGGREGATE function unlike the large function is an array function without the need to use CSE. As such we can add criteria to what we want to use. In this case only 1 criteria was used and that was the group number. in the formula it was the following part:
($C$2:$C$8=F$1)
If there were multiple criteria we would use either an + operator as an OR or we would use an * operator as an AND.
The 6 option in the aggregate function allows us to ignore errors. This is useful when trying to get the small. It is also useful for dealing with other information that may cause errors that do not need to be worried about.
As this is technically an array operation avoid using full column/row references as they can bog down your system.
The basics of what the over all formula is doing is building a list that match the group number you are interested in. After filtering your numbers, it then determines which is the largest, second largest etc by what row you have copied down to. It then determine what row the nth largest number occurs in through the match function, and finally it returns to the corresponding name to that row with the index function.
Building on all the other great answers.
Because you have the possibilities of duplicate values in each group we need to do this with two formulas.
First we need to get the numbers in order. I used the Aggregate, but this could be done with the array LARGE(IF()) also:
=IFERROR(AGGREGATE(14,6,$B$2:$B$8/($C$2:$C$8=E$1),ROW(1:1)),"")
Then using that number and order we can reference, we can use a modified version of #ForwardEd's formula, using COUNTIF() to ensure we get the correct name in return.
=IFERROR(INDEX($A$2:$A$8,AGGREGATE(15,6,(ROW($B$2:$B$8)-ROW($B$2)+1)/(($C$2:$C$8=F$1)*($B$2:$B$8=E3)),COUNTIF(E$2:E2,E3)+1)),"")
This will count the number in the results returned and then bring in the correct name.
You could also solve this with array formulas - to filter a group whose name is stored in E1, your code
=INDEX($A$2:$A$8,MATCH(LARGE($B$2:$B$8,1),$B$2:$B$8,0))
would then be adapted to
=INDEX($A$2:$A$8,MATCH(LARGE(IF($C$2:$C$8<>E1,-1,$B$2:$B$8),1),$B$2:$B$8,0))
Note: After entering an array formula, you have press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Thank you to everyone who offered help but for some reason none of your methods worked for me, which I am sure was to do with the quality of my data. I used an alternate method in the end which is slightly convoluted but seemed to work.
=IF($C2="1",RANK($B2,$B$2:$B$8,1)+ROW()/10000,-1)
Essentially using the rank function and adding a fraction to separate out duplicate values.
I have 3 tables, 1 of which I want to fill in columns with data based on the other 2. Tables are roughly structured as follows:
Table 1 (Semi-Static Data)

Where the TotalValue is the sum of all DataValue's for all subgroups that belong to that particular Group.
e.g. for group(b) ---> totalvalue(n) = datavalue(ii) + datavalue(iii)
I am looking to achieve this calculation without adding any additional columns to the Data tables nor using VBA.
Basically I need to perform a COUNTIFS where there is an additional VLOOKUP matching the subgroup criteria range to the group it belongs to, and then only summing for datavalue's that match the group being evaluated. I have tried using array formulas but I'm having issues making it work. Any assistance would be very appreciated. Thank you,
EDIT: Wanted to add some details surrounding my question. First all Google searches did not provide a suitable answer. All the links had solutions to a slightly different problem were the VLOOKUP term is not dependent on the SUMIFS criteria but rather another single static variable. You can use the SUMPRODUCT function to do it all at once. The first reference $B$2:$B$5 is for the Group names, the second reference $E$2:$E$5 is for the datavalues. The G2 reference is for the group names in the third table, you can enter this formula for the first reference and then drag and fill for the rest.
=SUMPRODUCT($E$2:$E$5 * (G2 = $B$2:$B$5))
Some cell references, and sample data, would be helpful but something like this might be what you want:
=SUMIF(C:C,"="&INDEX(A:A,MATCH(E5,B:B,0)),D:D)
WADR & IMHO, this is simply bad worksheet design. For lack of a single cross-reference column in Table2, any solution would have to be a VBA User Defined Formula or an overly complicated array formula (the latter of which I am not even sure is possible). The data tables are not normalized database tables you can INNER JOIN or GROUP BY ... HAVING.
The formula you are trying to achieve is akin to,
=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIF(D:D, {"subgroup(2)","subgroup(3)"}, E:E))
That only works with hard-coded values as arrayed constants (e.g. {"subgroup(2)","subgroup(3)"}). I know of no way to spit a dynamic list back into the formula using additional native Excel functions but VBA offers some possibilities.
HOWEVER,
The simple addition of one more column to Table2 with a very basic VLOOKUP reduces all of your problems to a SUMIF.
The formula in the new column D, row 2 is,
=VLOOKUP(E2, A:B, 2, FALSE)
The formula in I2 is,
=SUMIF(D:D, H2,F:F )
Fill each down as necessary. Sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear.
Thank you everyone that responded and reviewed this post. I have managed to resolve this using an array formula and some matrix algebra. Please note that I am not using VLOOKUP (this operator cannot be performed on arrays) nor SUMIFS as my title states.
My final formula looks like this:
{=SUM(IF([Table2.xlsx]Sheet1!SubGroup=TRANSPOSE(IF([Table1.xlsx]Sheet1!Group=G2,[Table1.xlsx]Sheet1!SubGroup,"")),[Table2.xlsx]Sheet1!DataValue))}
Very simply, I create an array variable that compares the Group being evaluated (e.g. cell G2) with the Groups column for Table 1 and outputs the corresponding matching SubGroups. This results in an array with as many rows as Table 1 had (N) and 1 column: Nx1. I then transpose that array (1xN) and compare it to the SubGroups column (Mx1, M being the number of rows in Table 2) and output the DataValues column for the rows that have a corresponding SubGroup (MxN). Then I perform a sum of the whole array to return a single value.
Notice that as I didn't include a value_if_false output return on either IF operators, it will just populate with FALSE in the arrays were the conditions are not met. This does not matter though for the final result. In the first IF, FALSE will not match the SubGroups so will be ignored. For the second all values FALSE passed to SUM will be calculated as 0. The more complicated question is that it grows the amount of memory required to process as we are not filtering to just have the values we want.
For this application I decided against filtering the subarray as the trade-off in resource utilization was acceptable. If the data sets were any bigger though, I would definitely try doing it. Another concern was that I did not understand fully the filtering logic that I was using based on http://exceltactics.com/make-filtered-list-sub-arrays-excel-using-small/ so decided to simplify. Will revisit this concept latter as I think it will work. I might have completed this solution but was missing transposing the array to compare properly so abandoned this route.
Does anyone know how I can get excel to look at the following fields, all formatted in mm:ss.00 and return the lowest time. I am using this to calculate PB's - personal best times - in a sports club race sheet.
The formula I am using is
=MIN(J5,(U5),(AE5),(AO5),(AY5),(BI5),(BS5),(CC5),(CM5),(CW5),(DG5),(DQ5),(EA5),(EK5),(EU5))
The problem I have at the moment is that it is including 00:00.00 values in the cells and returning a MIN value of 00:00.00.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Use the following:
=SMALL((J5,U5,AE5,AO5,...),COUNTIF((J5,U5,AE5,AO5,...),0)+1)
COUNTIF counts the amounts of 0 (you maybe need to adjust this value based on your formatting, but it should work). SMALL returns the n-smallest number of the given matrix, with n being the counted value + 1.
Therefore if no 0 is in the matrix, you get the 1st-smallest (aka the smallest), with one 0 you get the 2nd-smallest and so on. Maybe you need to add a check if every value is 0, if that could happen, as in that case SMALL would try to retrieve the value on position list_size+1 of the list, which of course isn't present.
