Is it possible to configure Azure Web site SSL protocols & ciphers - azure

I want to be able to disable the TLS 1.0 protocol and the RC4 cipher on an Azure website (or Web App) and I can't figure out if it's possible or not. (edit: I am aware that SSL 3.0 is disabled by default on Azure websites but I specifically want to disable TLS 1.0)
I know what registry settings to update but the problem of course is that I don't have access to the OS.
There's the NWebsec startup tasks that allow you to configure web roles (or cloud service) but my understanding is that this solution does not apply to web apps.
Is there any workaround?

Microsoft have completed a feature whereby TLS1.0 can be disabled via App Service Environment configuration. It's possible to set your own ciphers through the Azure resource manager or change the cipher suite order.
Details are available on the Custom configuration settings for App Service Environments page.

The original answer was that it is not possible to configure anything in the Registry or SSL settings in Azure web apps.
Microsoft are aware of PCI compliance changes and will update the host machines that the web apps run on in their own time frame. They announced in January 2015 that they would starting making updates on 18th July 2015 that would result in an A grade for TLS/SSL endpoints for Auzre web apps on sites like http://ssllabs.com
It's likely that this will be an on-going issue as computing power increases and more vulnerabilities are discovered and hosted web apps must rely on Microsoft to keep their servers patched and up-to-date in a timely manner.

If registry access and specific control of these settings is a requirement, the Azure options are Cloud Service WebRoles or IAAs VMs.

Use and setup of WAF with Azure App Service Web Application?

I run a number of App Service MVC Asp.Net web applications. I think it would be a good idea to add a WAF to the front the App Service website to enable OWASP protection as well as more visibility on suspicious attacks. Also I would want this to be linked into Azure Security Centre.
As far as I can see this is not a problem with VM websites, but with App Service websites I have seen SO comment (April 2017) about how this may not be supported. Although this information may be outdated now.
1) Am I just trying to replace existing threat detection features that is built into App Services, so adding a WAF is not required?
2) If required, is App Service WAFs supported, and especially linked to Azure Security Centre.
3) If required and possible, then any pointers please?
By the way, I have considered the use of Cloudflare as a WAF wrapper around Azure which looks interesting, but intitially wanted to check out Azure functionality to start with.

Is Azure WebApp automatically rate limited / DOS protected?

I'm building a service that allows to enter activation keys in a desktop application, which will then call a web service to check the key and return a license. This call does not require authorization.
The web application is running as Azure "App Service". I'm afraid someone will be trying to "guess" activation keys and slow down my service. (I'm not afraid they will be able to correctly guess, they are long enough).
Do Azure WebApps have some kind of automatic rate-limiting or DOS-protection, or do I need to configure/code this myself?
If I have to do it myself, can you point me into the right direction?
As far as I know, we could use Dynamic IP Restrictions in web app.
The Dynamic IP Restrictions Extension for IIS provides IT Professionals and Hosters a configurable module that helps mitigate or block Denial of Service Attacks or cracking of passwords through Brute-force by temporarily blocking Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of HTTP clients who follow a pattern that could be conducive to one of such attacks. This module can be configured such that the analysis and blocking could be done at the Web Server or the Web Site level.

How do I configure App Service Authentication on Web App Service for Linux

I do not see the option to easily configure App Service Authentication on Web Apps for Linux. I am using SSL and custom domain name.

If you are looking for an option through the Azure Portal, then this will help.
As per the Azure Web App on Linux documentation Limitations, The Azure portal shows only features that currently work for Web App on Linux and hides the rest. As Microsoft enable more features, they will be visible on the portal.
Some features, such as virtual network integration, Azure Active Directory/third-party authentication, or Kudu site extensions, are not available yet. Once these features are available, Microsoft will update the documentation and blog about the changes.

Azure Websites vs Azure Cloud Service Web Role [duplicate]

What are the material differences between the new Azure Web Sites and the traditional Azure Web Roles for an ASP.NET MVC application? What reason would I choose a "web site" over a "web role" or vice versa?
Let's assume that I would need equal capacity in either case (e.g. 2 small instances). The prices seem comparable other than the fact that there is a 33% temporary discount for web sites while they are in their preview period.
Are there things that I can do with a "web site" that are difficulty or impossible with a web role? For example, does it become easy to put multiple web sites in a single set of VMs using "web sites"? Do I lose anything with a "web site" vs a "web role"? Ability to fine tune IIS? Ability to use the Cache service locally?
Web Roles give you several features beyond Web Apps (formerly Web Sites):

With Windows Azure Websites, you don't have control over IIS or web Server because you are using a resources slice along with hundreds of other website on the same machine, you are sharing resources like any other so there is no control over IIS.
The big difference between a website shared and Azure web role is that a web-site is considered process bound while roles are VM bound.
Websites are stored on a content share which is accessible from all the "web servers" in the farm so there is no replication or anything like that required.
Windows Azure websites can not have their own host name instead they must use websitename.azurewebsites.net only and you sure can use CNAME setting in your DNS provider to route your request exactly same with previous Windows Azure Role only when they are running in reserved mode. CNAME setting is not supported for shared websites.

An excerpt from my conclusion: If you need enormous scale, SSL, Asian or West US data centres, a non-standard configuration (of IIS, ports, diagnostics, security certs or start up scripts), RDP or cost-effective Worker Roles (combined with your Web Role) then you are going to have to stick to Web Roles for now.
Otherwise, Web Sites is a great option!

We can't move these wildcard subdomain apps until we know that Azure Websites will be able to handle them. If it won't ever be able to do that, then it goes down as a positive on the Web Role side of the equation. Azure Websites, Web Workers and Virtual Machines are three different computing approaches available on Windows Azure. They differ in the level of control and responsibilities:
Azure Website have lowest level of control, but you don't care about keeping in health virtual machine and IIS, because Azure stuff do this for you
Web Roles give you more control (traffic manager, remote desktop), but more administration is possible on your side which means that you can break something via remote desktop for example
Virtual Machines gives you full control of VM, so require the most administration efforts.

Two more things I found was cost of getting SSL for a custom domain site and Multi-tenant configurations.
For website you need to pay monthly on top of standard instance (Small instance is the cheapest option). This means in order to get custom domain https would cost you ~70/month for small instance plus ~41/ month for SSL that supports all browser.
For WebRole you can get XS instance and add your own SSL for free, which means ~$15 per month
and you have a custom domain with SSL.
