Odata source missing from ssis toolbox - visual-studio-2012

I've followed the install instructions for the 32 bit SQL Server 2014 feature pack, but can't seem to see the odata source component in the ssis toolbox. I've tried installing the 64 bit feature pack and still have the same problem even after refreshing the toolbox. I copied the Odata dll's in the DTS/ConnectionManager and DTS/PipelineComponents folders to make sure they are both in folders within ProgramFiles (x86) and ProgramFiles as specified here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403356(v=sql.120).aspx
Infrastructure installed SQL across C: and D:
Now I can see the component in visual studio 2013 shell, but still not in visual studio 2012. Any ideas please?
Cheers,

Now I can see the component in visual studio 2013 shell, but still not in visual studio 2012
Visual Studio 2013 = SQL Server 2014 SSIS packages
Visual Studio 2012 = SQL Server 2012 SSIS packages
A 2014 package is not compatible with 2012 and neither are the components. If you're building for 2012, you need to get the installation that pushes the DLLs into the 110 folder. If you're building for 2014, you'll need the assemblies that reside in 120.
And whichever/both you install, they'll all need to be registered in the global assembly cache during their installation on your development and the server. Many people skip installing on the server and then wonder why their packages do not work.

Re-download the .msi for the oData source for SSIS. It does the proper installs for you. I figured since this question is almost 3 years old it needed an updated answer. I'm using VS 2015 shell with SSDT and SQL Server 2014 with SSIS....it worked for me...kind of. There are other issues I'm having, but those are for another discussion.

Will SSDTBI for Visual Studio 2013 work with SQL Server 2012?

Currently I am creating SSIS packages for SQL server 2012 using Visual Studio 2012 and the SSDTBI for VS2012. This works well (but there are a lot of bugs in the SSIS package designer).
Microsoft have just released SSDTBI for VS2013 and was wondering if this only works with SQL Server 2014. Would I be able to edit the same SSIS packages that I have created in VS2012 and still have them work in SQL Server 2012?
Update: Judging by this blog it seems there are still issues with SSIS for SQL Server 2012.
As the blog post you're referring to specifies, SSDTBI for VS2013 only supports SSIS 2014 and cannot be used to edit SSIS packages for SQL Server 2012.
When trying to open an SSIS 2012 project, VS2013 will automatically try to upgrade your packages to make them compatible with SSIS 2014, thus making them incompatible with SSIS 2012.
One major bug in SSDTBI for VS2012 (the shaking components/jitter bug) can be fixed using the workarounds specified in the Connect article here: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/790470/when-dragging-ssis-objects-on-canvas-the-objects-shake-jiggle-jitter

SQL Server 2012 DataTools + Visual Studio 2012 = An incompatible DacFx version is installed

I'm going crazy, trying to use SSDT in Visual Studio 2012. I created a database but I can't add tables etc. because of this error.
I installed:
Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate
SQL Server 2012 Express x64 with Advanced Services, plus WinUpdates
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 x86 (couldn't find a specific x64 version)
SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Application Framework (August 2013 both x86-x64 versions)
Basically I followed this MSDN piece of advice, http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/04ee07bf-31d9-4a60-90ad-bf48c16eb4d1/ssdt-vs2012-error-dac-framework-compatibility?forum=ssdt
but without results
Is there something I have to do, or follow a particular order?
Really this stuff is driving me crazy
Thx evbdy
You need to download the latest version of SSDT from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/hh297027. Or you should be able to get it inside Visual Studio by choosing "SQL-> Check for Updates" from the top menu bar. This will install the latest SSDT and DacFx bits, and fix this error.
Unfortunately SSDT and SSDT-BI have confusingly similar names but are separate downloads with different functionality. That's why your installation of the SSDT-BI tool didn't fix this error.

The 'ProviderPackage' package did not load correctly

I installed Visual Studio 2012 and at a later date Update 2. After installing Update 2, when I load any project, I get the following error:

The 'ProviderPackage' package did not load correctly.
The problem may have been caused by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension. You can get more information by examining the file 'C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ActivityLog.xml'.

Open a Developer Command Prompt for Visual Studio 2012 (as administrator).
Type devenv /setup.
Restart Visual Studio.

This is Aaron's (Aaron Reed) answer from above, just copied as an answer instead of part of the question:
Fixed it... Fixed it... Fixed it...
Opened Programs and Features (run: appwiz.cpl)
Sorted list of installed apps by: Install Date
Filtered list by adding "SQL" to the upper right search filter

I installed VS2012 on 4/1/13, so I went through each listed SQL item in the list, and right click --> Repair
From there I ran VS2012 and opened the target Solution file without issue.
My list:

Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - enu (11.1.20627.00)
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (x64)

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier App Framework
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL SpriptDom
This worked for me -
In order to fix the issue one needs to clear the Visual Studio cache under:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ComponentModelCache
Thanks go to blog post SetSite failed for package [Microsoft.VisualStudio.Editor.Implementation.EditorPackage].
Usually this can be fixed by clearing the Visual Studio cache under:
Visual Studio 2012: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ComponentModelCache
Visual Studio 2013: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0\ComponentModelCache
I fixed this by uninstalling or removing:
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - enu (14.0.50325.0)
I hope this helps :)
Worked for me.
Window7 SP1 + VS 2013
Open a Developer Command Propmpt for VS 2012 (as administrator).
Run devenv /setup.
An even quicker fix is to simply repair the Microsoft SQL Server in the list. That fixed my problem.
Uninstalling/Repairing SQL Server Data tools is the only thing which worked for me, thanks to wayne.blackmon comment.
Picture below
For me the ActivityLog.xml stated
<errorinfo>Access to the path 'C:\Users\Klas\Documents\Visual Studio
2015\ArchitectureExplorer' is denied.</errorinfo>
When I examined this folder I realized that the entire folder structure here
C:\Users\Klas\Documents\Visual Studio 2015
had permission set so that my user had no write permissions. I added Full Control rights to my user for this folder and everything below.
After that, the message went away. Also, when I started Visual Studio it created lots of subfolders to this folder.
I had the same issue in Visual Studio 2013 for Windows 8.1.
The previous answers didn't work for me. I had to repair Visual Studio and then reboot my machine.
I was getting this error on Visual Studio start up:
the 'visual studio component model host package' did not load correctly...
After that bunch of other The '' package did not load correctly... error messages.
I realized I don't have enough free space on my C drive, where the Visual Studio were installed.
I opened up some space and restarted the Visual Studio, solved the problem.
Not sure if it has anything to do with the free space on disk though.
In my case the problem appeared after I installed Visual Studio 2015. From that point nor 2015, nor previous versions of Visual Studio would load.
The problem was the PATH environment variable exceeding the MAX length.
I shortened it to less than 2048 and restarted the machine. Visual Studio started loading, but with some errors still. Lastly run the devenv /setup, and all is back to normal.
I just had a similar error (on Windows 7. I installed Visual Studio 2015 Professional and then after that, several "...package did not load correctly" messages started showing up when I ran Visual Studio 2012).
What fixed my issue was to repair "Microsoft Studio Tools for Applications 2012".
Run "appwiz.cpl" (Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a program
Right-click on "Microsoft Studio Tools for Applications 2012. Select "Change", then click "Repair".
After this, I can open up Visual Studio 2012 without those error messages.
I had a similar error. After I updated to VS2012.U2, the problem went away. TFS 2012 update 2 can't be removed without removing TFS. While I had an issue with upgrading from TFS2012.U1 to U2, I have found TFS2012.U2 to be worthwhile.
It was the problem with access rights to my %USERPROFILE% directory (because of the failure with the PC). Setting permissions to full access fixed it.
Another suggestion,
Run as admin, and restart the VS application.
Apply package update.
Reboot.
Hope this helps!
From MSDN forums:
Please open Windows Explorer, and navigate to <Visual Studio Installation Path>\Common7\IDE
Devenv.exe /SafeMode: Launches the IDE in safe mode loading minimal windows.
Devenv.exe /ResetSettings: Restores the IDE's default settings, optionally resets to the specified VSSettings file.
Devenv.exe /ResetAddin: Removes commands and command UI associated with the specified Add-in.
Devenv.exe /ResetSkipPkgs: Clears all SkipLoading tags added to VSPackages.
If still no help, I suggest you try repairing your Visual Studio installation or uninstall it and then reinstall it. If you want to reinstall it, I am afraid that you need a DVD or a fine Internet.
Doing the first three steps works for me.
I got "lucky" and restarted Visual Studio 2013 and it worked. I have had other errors in which deleting the temp cache items cleared it up.
Side note. While Visual Studio 2015 is not perfect as of yet, and NuGet has become less friendly to use IMO, if my computer is restarted by the company domain network administrators OR especially when there is a computer losing power with a brown-out of some loss of power Visual Studio 2013 becomes a bit a "fun" to fix while Visual Studio 2015 projects for months seem to just open just fine as if nothing happened when I login.
In my case, I solve this problem by removing the Read-only attribute of the folder "Visual Studio 2015" in <C:\Users\myuser\Documents>.

Using SSIS BIDS with Visual Studio 2012 / 2013

I want to use SSIS /BIDS project in Visual Studio 2012.
I have both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 installed along with Microsoft SQL
Server 2012.
VS 2010 was installed first followed by MS SQL 2012 which got me BIDS integrated with VS 2010.
However I cannot seem to find any help on integrating BIDS with VS 2012.
I came across few question on SO related to this topic but all of them had integration with 2010 and not 2012.
I know that with MS SQL 2012 I get a SQL Server Data Tool. Does this mean that Visual Studio 2012 and BIDS cannot be integrated ?
Solution 2012:
I had to update the solution here since one of the answers I received partially solved the issue. The Answer provided by did solve the issue #user2141936 but I kept on getting an BlockMixedArchitectureInstall error while updating an existing instance.
It worked without with creating a new instance!!
Side Note :
Installing the update broken my publishing database project onto 2012 server. You need to download and install a DACFramework patch for it.
Solution 2013:
download and install http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42313
Welcome to Microsoft Marketing Speak hell. With the 2012 release of SQL Server, the BIDS, Business Intelligence Designer Studio, plugin for Visual Studio was renamed to SSDT, SQL Server Data Tools. SSDT is available for 2010 and 2012. The problem is, there are two different products called SSDT.
There is SSDT which replaces the database designer thing which was called Data Dude in VS 2008 and in 2010 became database projects. That a free install and if you snag the web installer, that's what you get when you install SSDT. It puts the correct project templates and such into Visual Studio.
There's also the SSDT which is the "BIDS" replacement for developing SSIS, SSRS and SSAS stuff. As of March 2013, it is now available for the 2012 release of Visual Studio. The download is labeled SSDTBI_VS2012_X86.msi Perhaps that's a signal on how the product is going to be referred to in marketing materials. Download links are
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 (SSIS packages target SQL Server 2012)
Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 (SSIS packages target SQL Server 2014)
None the less, we have Business Intelligence projects available to us in Visual Studio 2012. And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals
Today March 6, 2013, Microsoft released SQL Server Data Tools – Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 (SSDT BI) templates. With SSDT BI for Visual Studio 2012 you can develop and deploy SQL Server Business intelligence projects. Projects created in Visual Studio 2010 can be opened in Visual Studio 2012 and the other way around without upgrading or downgrading – it just works.
The download/install is named to ensure you get the SSDT templates that contain the Business Intelligence projects. The setup for these tools is now available from the web and can be downloaded in multiple languages right here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=36843
First Off, I object to this other question regarding Visual Studio 2015 as a duplicate question. How do I open SSRS (.rptproj) and SSIS (.dtproj) files in Visual Studio 2015? [duplicate]
Basically this question has the title ...Visual Studio 2012 / 2013 What about ALL the improvements and changes to VS 2015 ??? SSDT has been updated and changed. The entire way of doing various additions and updates is different.
So having vented / rant - I did open a VS 2015 update 2 instance and proceeded to open an existing solution that include a .rptproj project. Now this computer does not yet have sql server installed on it yet.
Solution for ME : Tools --> Extension and Updates --> Updates --> sql server tooling updates
Click on Update button and wait a long time and SSDT then installs and close visual studio 2015 and re-open and it works for me.
In case it is NOT found in VS 2015 for some reason : scroll to the bottom, pick your language iso https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/mt186501.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Visual Studio 2012 + Business Intelligence Templates

I got SQL Server 2012 installed on my machine and I have SSDT to create BI projects.
Today i installed Visual Studio 2012; but i cannot create any of BI projects in Visual Studio 2012. Is there a way I can open BI (SSIS/SSAS/SSRS) projects in VS 2012 or should i have to always go back to SSDT to open them.
SSRS development functionality became available for Visual Studio 2012 in March 2013. And Microsoft started to distinguish between SSDT and SSDT-BI (which contains the BI tools). They are complementary installations, and both must be installed for Visual Studio to be happy working with SSRS reports.
The components needed for SSRS development are as follows:
Download SSDT for Visual Studio 2012
Download SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012
Download Data-Tier Application Framework (March 2013)
Check out this blog post. Basically, there are two versions of SSDT (even though Microsoft doesn't ever explicitly state this), and depending on how you installed SSDT, you get one or the other version. As a further note, SSDT will only work with BIDS in SQL Server 2012, not 2008R2.
In addition to this, only SQL Server Data Tools 2010/VS2010 has access to the entire BI suite. This is not yet available for VS2012/SQL Server Data Tools 2012, which only has access to the SQL Database project. Fortunately (or maybe not), both can be installed to the same system without systemic conflict. As to your mental conflict, your mileage may vary.
It is available now as an additional download at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36843
