I am using Aptana Studio 3 3.6.0.201407100658, and for some reason my workspace folder will not show up in the file explorer. Does anyone know how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again!
Try File > Switch Workspace > Other… to select the right workspace.

I recently installed Android Studio 3.1.3 on my laptop in order to start learning android/mobile development (I am still new to all of this). The LogCat option seems to be missing though (refer to images below)
What I tried to do in order to fix the problem:
-uninstalling and reinstalling android studio (along with updating it...)
-researching the problem (no useful results as all the solutions were to press alt-6 or go to View->Tool Windows)
It would be a huge help/relief if someone knows how to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance.
I know it is an old question, but I encountered this problem at least twice so it might help someone.
The problem seems to be the path of the project you're looking at.
It should be pointing to the folder containing the 'app' and 'gradle' folders inside your project.
Go to File > Open
Select the folder with the 'app' folder inside your project
Press 'Open'
If you see something like this you can now probably open the Logcat window with alt-6 or View->Tool Windows.
Note that for some reason, it didn't work for me at first until I opened the app folder, run a build and then opened the folder containing the app folder.
You need to sync your project and then Logcat will show up
Just in case anyone stumbles upon this as I did: If you are developing a react-native app, be sure that you import only the android folder of the project.
If you import the whole project, then among other things, logcat is nowhere to be found!
Try pressing Alt+6 on Windows or CMD+6 on Mac.
I closed "Logcat" by accident via right click -> "Remove From Sidebar".
I was able to restore it with these steps:
Launch your current App on an emulator.
This should create a "Run" Tab on the Sidebar.
Click on the "Run" Tab and find the "Modify Run Configuration..."
(Wrench) icon and launch it.
Change the tab to "Miscellaneous".
Check the box next to "Show logcat automatically"
This is not a solution if Logcat doesn't even show up in View->Tool Windows!
But if it does: click it and it may show up at a different location than it used to be. Without recognizing I had shoved it to the top left where the project tab is shown. You can now click on the gear wheel on the tab and select move to bottom left (that is the default location).
This was the solution for my "logcat not showing".
Press Alt+6 inside Android Studio to open Logcat monitor.
Then, Do the following steps:-
Open Android Studio.
Open Android Monitor Window(at the bottom of android studio).
Here you will see the drop down in right corner.
Select Show only selected Application.
I updated from Android Studio 2.3 to 3.0 and now none of the previews on the XML editors are shown.
I can see a null in the top bar in the API level selector and it does not give me any option to pick
Any possible solution for that?
I tried Invalidate cache and restart but it does not seem to help.
Just press "Sync Project with gradle" and enjoy :)
Sync icon is present in the toolbar
I resolve this isuue by Syncing Project with gradle files.
In android studio from top toolbar.
choose first File option and click option Sync Project with gradle files.
thanks.
choose first File option and click option Sync Project with gradle files. work for me
Whenever I close and open my Android Studio, the XML/Java files I had open previously do not restore automatically. I know this is something I've most likely messed up in the Settings, but I'm not entirely sure what it is. If someone could tell me that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Go to Settings -> Appearance & Behaviour -> System Settings and check Reopen last project on startup
The question is old, but it might be helpful to someone. I recently faced the same issue - the java files, that were opened in the project, didn't reopen after restarting Android Studio. It turned out that in workspace.xml (located in the .idea folder of the project) the paths to that files were incorrect. After correcting them everything worked fine again.
I have updated my Android Studio to 1.2.1.1 and now i am trying to create a new project and it shows an error:
"Error Loading Default Project "
Fatal error initializing 'com.intellij.openapi.vcs.changes.shelf.ShelveChangesManager'
Please suggest a solution. Thanks in advance
Experienced the same problem on Ubuntu/Linux.
In my case the solution was to change the save path of my project from relative, to absolute.
Trying to create a new project in ~/AndroidStudioProjects/MyApp would generate this error
But if I specified the full path /home/myusername/AndroidStudioProjects/MyApp, the problem was resolved.
You have to reset Android Studio and this is a configuration problem.
Uninstall android studio and install again.
This link will help you with all steps of reinstall.
Unable to create new android studio project?
I just came across the same error:
'com.intellij.openapi.vcs.changes.shelf.ShelveChangesManager'
Make sure that you have permissions to write to the project path.
android studio stores the project in the last location you loaded from and in my case it was a Flash Drive...
#Garima Mathur's answer suggests that is a 'configuration problem'
If it's a 'configuration problem' you can delete(*or better rename) the configuration folder.
which is located in the c:\users\CURRENT_USER\.AndroidStudio1.2
but in my case the solution was to change the path of the project to be saved.
I had the same error of "Error Loading Default Project"
Fatal error initializing
'com.intellij.openapi.vcs.changes.shelf.ShelveChangesManager'
and I figured out where the error was coming from. Previous I was running my project from a USB key labeled volume F. Later when I opened Android studio after unplugging, the default storage path was still F. Make sure your path is okay.
I also had the same problem. Following process worked fine for me:
Open your any old project in android studio.
Go to File > New > New Project.
Set Name to your Application.
At bottom of window there is "Project Location TextField".
Just change the Location Path to the desired folder and click Next Button.
I had the same issues, I tried to figure it by my self and it worked.
Try this, open your old project, then in your old project window, go to file > new > new project, and it will show the new project window to let you setup your project, after you finish your project setup, click finish and your project will start building and it will bring you to your new project window.
That's all, it works for me.
I am very new to Visual studio, so I am trying to learn the basics.
I have read so many articles but some are for 2012, some are for the non-web version, etc, but I seriously can't find a solution to such a simple task as this.
I am using Visual Studio Express 2012 for Web, and have created a "Blank Solution".
I end up with this view:
Now my goal is to add all my existing files and folders and have it shown in Visual Studio.
So, I have located my solution file on disk and copied all my files into the same folder:
Now, I know its possible to add single items into the view by right clicking and picking add item:
But I cant include folders here. I have tried to drag and drop, I have read guides about using the "Show all files" button, but apparently that does not exist for the Web version of Visual Studio 2012.
Could anyone please tell me what the proper way is to include all my files into the solution explorer?
I just had this same problem in Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. I know your question is about Web but maybe this will work for you too.
Assuming the files/folders you want to include are in your solution folder, from the Project menu toggle on "Show All Files", then you should see the files/folders in Solution Explorer. Select those you want to include, right click and choose "Include in Project".
A solution contains one or several projects and no solution-wide files (normally). Create a project, and then follow How do I add an existing directory tree to a project in Visual Studio? to add the files.
(It was a long time ago I did it this way, and with an earlier version of Visual Studio, so YMMV.)
I think that the best way to do it is to simply drag&drop desired folders with files between file explorer and solution explorer in VS. I've just tested it and that works the best for me.
You can place your files in the Solution folder and refresh the solution explorer :) It'll automatically add your files, I do it for 2010 and think it'll work for 2012 as well
In solution Explorer top toggle,You can find few icons, Find Show all files and click on it.Navigate to the folder exactly matching the same address in your visual studio and you can see a folder which is newly added into your project,Which is displayed as a dotted folder and right click on it and include it into project.
Don't forget to convert the project into Web-Application.
Thanks.
I actually found the solution.
So in solution explorer there is a button "Solutions and Folders" screenshot
When you pressed it your project folder would be opened. You find the folder that you need to add, copy it (screenshot), return to project solution and past it
