Responsively center SVG element inside another SVG element? - svg

I'm trying to do something very simple in SVG:
Divide the entire viewport into two rectangles
Each rectangle should have a width 50% of the viewport's width
Each rectangle should have a height 100% of the viewport's height
In the center of each rectangle, draw another rectangle 100px wide and 40px high
The center of each of these "child" rectangles, for lack of a better term, should be aligned with the center of their respective "parent" rectangles--at any viewport size.
Here's an example of what I'd like to achieve, but using <text> elements instead of <rect> elements:

How can I do this with rectangles--or any SVG shape, for that matter?

It turns out the secret to responsive SVG design is to have each object on the screen be its own <svg> element. In other words, use <svg> as a group tag.
Why? Because <svg> elements can be positioned using percentages.
To position the <svg> by its center rather than its upper, left-hand corner, use its transform="translate(dx,dy)" property.
In the case of our example, putting the text and "child" rectangles inside their own <svg> parent, and then transforming that, pulls off the desired effect:

how to set clipPath as a pattern using svg?

I created the pattern, then gave it to the circle inside the . clipPath I set to the image, but the pattern was not set for the image. How can I set a mask as a pattern for an image?
I was expecting to see a mask for the image in the form of a created pattern

If you want a mask, then use a <mask>, not a <clipPath>, which as its name implies will create a clipping area from a path. What you want is for the pixels to create the mask, and that's what a <mask> does.

I want to center the rect shape with something equivalent to

I can't find the right syntax.
You can use an inner <svg> element to do the percentage part via its x attribute then the rest with the <g> element as you already have.
I'm not sure what you intend with the viewBox but percentage values are not valid there. Looks like you just don't need that at all.

I have some SVG elements grouped together in a <g> element (exactly the barcode 1D, PHP generates a barcode).

The barcode is generated in various widths, lengths. How can I set the width permanently ?

SVG g element does not have width and height attributes. Therefore, you can not set height and width on it.
You should use a foreignObject with a svg inside of it to do so.

Cut off half of the SVG's text element

How can I make this

So I want to halve the text element. I don't want to hide half of the text outside of SVG. Hiding it outside of g would be ok, but haven't found solution.

Use an <svg> element rather than a <g> as the svg element will clip its contents by default. The overflow property controls clipping i.e overflow="visible" doesn't clip but overflow="hidden" does.

How to size an SVG

I am trying to create an SVG sprite.
I have set the SVG image to be 100px wide, 50px height, then offset the second by 50.
How can I set the size of the actual icon? Currently, the icon is huge and not 50px.

This is what I see:

What you are missing is a defined viewBox.
If you do not define a viewBox the viewBox is the same size as the height and width that you defined.
So when you draw a path and some of its point are above 370 then they will be outside its container. Since your defined size is 100 width by 50 height. Any point with values higher then the size will not be drawn.
when you define a viewBox you can change the size without affecting what is drawn or not.
