How to specify a run timeout with VSTest.Console? - vstest

With MSTest.exe, you can specify a total timeout for a test run by setting the /TestSettings/Execution/Timeouts/#runTimeout attribute in a .testsettings file.
With VSTest.Console.exe, the .testsettings has been deprecated in favor of .runsettings, which apparently has a completely different schema (with, ahem, sparse documentation). I know that I can configure the .runsettings file to use legacy MSTest mode (thereby allowing me to use a .testsettings file), but I would prefer to avoid that if possible.
Is there a way to set a run timeout in the .runsettings file? Or is there a different way to get the same effect?

No, you can change it to use a different file (by setting -Dcassandra.config=file://your/path), but only a single file. If you really want though, you can write a custom config loader (like the YamlConfigurationLoader) and set it with: -Dcassandra.config.loader=your.Loader.

How to force file processing on one node without splitting?

Is it possible to force file processing on one node without splitting? I tried to use AtomicFileProcessing set on true, but it doesn't work.

In one of my job, I am using custom user defined operators for data processing, and it does not split data. You can also try this option.

Ezjail and /etc/jail.conf in FreeBSD 10.2

I have a question regarding the following warning when using

As you found out, jails on FreeBSD 10.x use a new configuration method. From /usr/src/UPDATING:
20131010:
The rc.d/jail script has been updated to support jail(8)
configuration file. The "jail_<jname>_*" rc.conf(5) variables
for per-jail configuration are automatically converted to
/var/run/jail.<jname>.conf before the jail(8) utility is invoked.
This is transparently backward compatible. See below about some
incompatibilities and rc.conf(5) manual page for more details.
These variables are now deprecated in favor of jail(8) configuration
file. One can use "rc.d/jail config <jname>" command to generate
a jail(8) configuration file in /var/run/jail.<jname>.conf without
running the jail(8) utility. The default pathname of the
configuration file is /etc/jail.conf and can be specified by
using $jail_conf or $jail_<jname>_conf variables.
Please note that jail_devfs_ruleset accepts an integer at
this moment. Please consider to rewrite the ruleset name
with an integer.
ezjail was never updated to use this new method, but that's ok: FreeBSD still accepts the previous method. You can ignore this warning.

scons adding --prefix option

What is the typical use-case for adding --prefix support to a scons build?
Currently I use Variables to persist user options from the command-line, but that requires I use the name PREFIX to be recognized as a variable. The docs show a way to specify the preifx using AddOption but then this option must be specified everytime scons is run: it isn't persisted like the variables.
What is the typical way to handle this?
You will need to use Add/GetOption to create an option the user can provide on the command line.
After, yous users will need to set the environment variable SCONSFLAGS with options they want to provide to SCons everytime. SCons will read this variable everytime.

It's not a good idea to have many environment variable on the user machine because you lost the documentation and which variable you really need to compile.

InstallShield: How can single custom actions be tested?

(I'm using InstallShield2012 V.18)
In setup.rul I defined a function per prototype declaration, included the file with the function definition and compiled it successfully (InstallShield compile).
Now I'd like to test this function (only).
I don't want to run the whole installation, not even test (Ctrl-T) because I want to avoid a complete re-build which takes too long time to do it often.
Is there a way to test only the custom function in InstallShield or per command line?
Not really although I can give you some tips.
Create a dummy feature with a release flag of DEVONLY.
Create a dummy component for that feature.
Create a ProductConfiguration that builds a single MSI with no EXE and a release flag of DEVONLY.
Building this production configuration will be very fast. A couple seconds on my laptop with an SSD. You can selectivly include other features through the use of release flags if you need certain components in order to setup the test environment for your CA.
Another strategy is to develop your CA in a test harness project and then transplant the code into your real installer when you know it all works.

I also thought about using such a workaround but first wanted to avoid it if possible.
But ok, now I tried these steps, 1 and 2 no problem, but 3: InstallShield didn't allow me to configure a Product Configuration without Setup.exe in my .ism file (although we have IS2012 Pro).
Then I tried to do it in a Basic MSI Project (is that what you meant?), which really builds in very short time. And now I can see my scripting during Test Release, yeah :-)
To "transplant" my script now to the main ism I'm missing an export function for .rul files as it exists for custom actions, but there is only a import. So I will have to copy-paste while switching between ism files, but never mind.
