I've updated Android Studio to version 3.2.
After that update one of my projects don't want to index.
It freezes with the message
"Indexing paused due to batch update".
How can I fix this?
File gradle-wrapper.properties:
distributionBase=GRADLE_USER_HOME
distributionPath=wrapper/dists
zipStoreBase=GRADLE_USER_HOME
zipStorePath=wrapper/dists
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-4.4-all.zip
File gradle-properties:
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1536m
org.gradle.parallel=true
org.gradle.daemon=true
org.gradle.configureondemand=true
I faced the same issue with Android Studio 3.2. Invalidated the cache and restarted Android Studio, but it still did not work for me. Then I just re-imported the project and it worked!
Just Restart (File > Invalidate Cache & Restart > Just Restart)
I faced this issue in Android Studio 3.+ when forcefully close Studio in between some gradle process.
Pressing the play button worked for me. It finished indexing and installed the apk in seconds. The catch is that I have to do this every time and batch does not seem to update.
Click on the play button to the right of the progress bar.
Press the play button to the right of this message and the issue would resolve.
You have to do it every time, because right now the problem is systematic and there is no solution to stop it from appearing.
I invalidated the cache and restarted Android Studio. That worked for me.
You can do this by:
File > Invalidate Caches / Restart > Invalidate and Restart
I faced this issue many times and what I did everytime is:
Firstly, click on the processing bar on the bottom of the android studio.
A pop up window will appear on the screen like this-
Click on the red circled Play button and let the process complete.
Please note that you will have to repeat this everytime you face this issue because this is some kind of bug or something in AS version 3.2
Optional: click on (-) minimize button if you want to the pop-up to minimize
I faced the same issue, it seems that Android Studio messes up the cache.
Go to File > Invalidate Caches and Restart
Then on the Pop Up that appears choose Invalidate and Restart
Seems like there is an issue with Android Studio itself. I fixed the issue for now by following these steps:
Click File > Invalidate Caches / Restart
On the pop up choose Invalidate and Restart
Invalidated the cache -> restarted Android Studio -> re-import the project from the project location. Its worked for me
This is an issue in Android Studio since v3.2, I have posted an issue in Android Studio Issue Tracker, it's being finally accepted. Waiting for them to solve it.
Here is the issue tracker, you can follow up from here.
please star the issue as well to help solving it.
Stay Connected to internet.Let the batch to be updated.Wait one time and it will be easy the next time. OR...Click on the play button.
I saw this error and none of the solutions posted here worked for me. I had a specific scenario (see below), and I could get rid of the problem in my specific scenario. Not sure if the OP had the same scenario, by here are my two cents:
In my specific case I had two projects open in Android Studio, where one of the project was from a sshfs-mounted directory (the other project was local to my computer). I believe that made Android Studio throw the "Indexing paused due to batch updated" message on, strangely, both the projects.
To get rid of the error on the local project, I had to close the remote mounted project. On closing that project, the message was gone for my local project.
Hope that helps.
Close your project
Go to your project root directory,
Find and delete the xxx.iml file, the .idea and .gradle folders
Re-open your project using Android Studio.
I had the same issue and I fixed by do the following:
Click File --> click on Invalidate Caches / Restart
You will see a pop up--> select Invalidate and Restart
I did it by exporting the project into zip file and open it like normal. you can export by clicking the file navbar and choose export to zip file
I faced the same Issue but the situation which lead to this was different:
I created a remote branch on the project's repository on GitHub and it was empty.
And then I checkout to that branch locally while android studio was running.
I then deleted the local repository and created it again but this time it was not empty. Further I pushed the code to the remote branch as well. Now I thought that it will start the project normally but again the same happened.it resulted in an IDE error.
To solves this issue I deleted that local repository and again re-imported it.Than it started correctly.
None of the other answers worked for me. Not even pressing the "play" button. All that worked was closing the project and re-opening it via "Open an existing Android Studio project".
The effect only lasts for a single session. As soon as I close and re-open the project, or AS 3.3, the problem re-appears.
Deleting C:\Users\<user>\.AndroidStudio3.3\config\options\recentProjects.xml (before starting AS 3.3) is an alternative way to accomplish the same thing.
EDIT
Upon upgrading to AS 3.3.2, this solution no longer worked. However, after an "Invalidate Caches and Restart", the problem disappeared.
Click on play button twice and then go to file->Invalidate Caches / Restart...
repeat this process every time whenever you face this issue.
I solved it by deleting all the *.iml files and the .idea folder
I faced the same issue, because my AS version is not the same with gradle plugin's version.
This issue coccus randomly in Android Studio V3.+ [Issue tracker:https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/118523471] .
There might be multiple reasons for this issue but it is mainly either ".gradle" related or ".iml" file related IntelliJ/Android Studio configurations.
Possible solutions:
Click on play icon under the processing bar (on the bottom of the android studio). But be aware that multiple clicks may also kill the the indexing process.
Invalidate cache (File -> Invalidate Cache & Restart -> Just Restart)
Clean ((Build -> Clean project) and Rebuild (Build -> Rebuild Project)
Sync Project with Gradle Files: Available options (depending on the Android Studio version) at
Tools -> Android -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
button available at top left corner in Android Studio's toolbar
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
Delete the .idea & .gradle folders and .idea & .iml files from the project root directory and re-import the project
I have faced this issue quite a few times and got rid of then by using one or more of above solutions.
But in some scenario nothing of the above solutions may work (as recently I get trapped-in). In this case I have to recreate the same project from scratch and copied back the required files into it. But ideally this should not be the solution. Please let me know if any other possible solution is there.
Invalidate cache and restart did the work for me. Now, the build is compiling in seconds.
I am using Windows 10 and when I launch the Virtual Device Emulator in Android Studio I keep getting the message which reads:
"The ADB binary at C:\Users\siviw\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe is obsolete and has serious performance problems with the Android Emulator. Please update to a newer version to get significantly faster app / file transfer".
I am a new developer with little experience. What do I need to update to a newer version so that message is no longer shown?
I am new to android as well. dkalev's answer is correct but not very descriptive for a new user. I have outlined the steps below.
Double Shift to open the search box
Type SDK Manager
In the results shown click "SDK Manager"
In the window that opens click the second tab "SDK Tools". You should see that there is an update available for SDK Build-Tools on the first line
Check "Show Package Details" in the lower right hand corner
Scroll to the last (latest version) item under "SDK Build-Tools" and check the box. (Mine was 28.0.1)
Click "Apply"
In the dialogue box that pops up, click "OK"
When the installer finishes, click "Finish"
Uncheck "Show Package Details" and look at "Android SDK Build-Tools" (first line). There should be no update available and it should say "Installed"
Click "OK" to close the SDK Manager
For me, update SDK doesn't help. I solve this problem by unchecking the emulator option "Use detected ADB location". Give it a try.
I had the same problem and solved it by updating the Android SDK Build-Tools. Open the SDK manager in Android studio (double shift and type SDK manager). Then on the second tab (SDK Tools) update the Android SDK Build-Tools and the error message should go away.
This is an years old bug.
Check your adb version like this : (the adb path is given with the error itself)
C:\Users\<your_user_name_>\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe --version
output :
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.41
Version 29.0.4-5871666
Installed as C:\Users\sunil\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe
It means this adb comes from the latest sdk platform tools 29.0.4.
Check the latest version from official site here.
If you already have the latest version of ADB installed, and still getting the error, this is a known issue. Google hasn't yet provided any other ADB. Click on the "never show again" option and continue.
17-01-2019
This works for me.
Just opened Android SDK Manager Then it showed 4 Updates Available. So I just Updated it and No more above warning.
Had the same issue but in my case the fix was slightly different, as no updates were showing for the Android SDK Tools. I opened the Virtual Device Manager and realised my emulator was running API 27. Checked back in the SDK Manager and I didn't have API 27 SDK Tools installed at all. Installing v 27 resolved the issue for me.
In my case what removed this message was (After updating everything) deleting the emulator and creating a new one.
Manually updating the adb didn't solved this for. Nor updating via the Android studio Gui.
In my case it seems that since the emulator was created with "old" components it keep showing the message. I had three emulators, just deleted them all and created a new one. For my surprise when it started the message was no more.
Cannot tell if performance is better or not. The message just didn't came up. Also I have everything updated to the latest (emulators and sdk).
This happened to me. And, in my case I need Android SDK Platform 29 because I am using react native 0.63 and Android 10 (Q). I had to uninstall Android SDK Platform 28 because it was the one that caused the warning.
I found this video See Here explaining the process.
Open Android Studio then click on configure
Go to SDK Manager
Go to SDK Tools and click show package details
Uncheck Android SDK Platform 28 (OBS: for me) and Apply
Click OK and Finish.
With this I was able eliminate the warning.
I had the same problem and solved it by updating the Android SDK Build-Tools in Android Studio.
step 1 - Double shift and type SDK manager, this will open the SDK manager
step 2 - Then on the second tab (SDK Tools), update the Android SDK Build-Tools and the error message should go away.
if this does not resolve check the option in Setting tab,use detected Adb tool in Setting tab
(You mentioned you are new to Android Studio) so I recommend pressing the Android Studio > Help > Check for updates... button that will update your environment.
I solved this error by uninstalling two older SDK build tools versions, leaving only the most recent one.
The solution that worked for me -
I closed my Android Studio.
I visited this site - https://androidstudio.io/downloads/tools/download-the-latest-version-of-adb.exe.html
From there I downloaded the latest adb.zip file
I unzipped the folder and copied the 3 files -
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
I went to the folder - C:\Users\PayelSenapati\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools
There I replaced the old files by the new files. (Paste followed by replace the existing files)
Then I reopened my Android Studio, opened my virtual android device. Everything went fine. The error was no more.
In the SDK Manager, in the SDK Tools tab, check if you have any updates, if not, deselect "Hide Obsolete Packages" and check if you have something marked as (obsolete) if so, deselect the item and apply. In my case, it was the Android SDK Tools.
First you need to check which SDK your Emulator is using and as #kuya suggested you need to follow those steps and install the latest version of that SDK Build Tool. Suppose your Emulator uses SDK 27 then you need to install latest in that series. For me it was 27.0.3. After that the error was gone.
Try factory reset to virtual device from Android Device Manager
None of the top-voted answers worked for me, except when I unchecked "Use detected ADB location" as mentioned above by #褚阳光. Fortunately, in my case though, the message didn't show up, even when I turned it back on. In other words, the problem might be resolved by restarting "Use detected ADB location" :)
Try update your SDK Tools items, and then delete all currently created emulator and recreate again. it works for me
This might sound normal but I was getting the same error but just updated it and it worked now without any error. I suggests anyone to try for updates first.
If you are stuck after following each of the steps outlined in above, I will suggest you combine more than one answers. The answers of #Kuya and #褚阳光 worked for me. Try them out. I can explain more if the steps are yielding results for you.
This can also be an issue with hyper-v settings on Windows 10 pro. Because with this error I was facing BSOD - https://www.techclassy.com/fix-hypervisor-error-bsod/
I faced the same issue, and I tried following things, which didn't work:
Deleting the existing AVD and creating a new one.
Uninstall latest-existing and older versions (if you have) of SDK-Tools and SDK-Build-Tools and installing new ones.
What worked for me was uninstalling and re-installing latest PLATFORM-TOOLS, where adb actually resides.
I got this error and I tried all the possible solutions that I found on every site, nothing worked.
I was working with flutter, and the command flutter doctor showed me that I need to accept a few agreements
I did that and ADB started to work
So conclusion:
If nothing works, install flutter, run flutter doctor, execute the commands that flutter doctor suggests to you. This should solve your problem
the command was: flutter doctor --android-licenses
I followed the answer, but the magic final step was deleting the existing virtual environment and creating a new one.
So far, I've run into a brick wall when trying to open Android Studio. Installation seems to run fine, but when I open the program for the first time, I am greeted with the setup wizard which informs me that it will be downloading components.
The first line in the dialog box tells me that the sdk has been installed in a specific location, which it then lists.
At the bottom, there are greyed-out navigation buttons for 'Back' 'Next' and 'Finish'. The 'Cancel' button is active, but when I click it, nothing happens.
There is no button for 'Show Details' to reveal what is going on behind the scenes.
Basically, this screen does not advance. I have tried on multiple different internet connections. I am not using a proxy.
When I hit cancel, the button becomes greyed-out, and nothing happens. The only way to exit the screen is to force close it in Task Manager.
I have tried running as an administrator.
I am currently running Windows 8.1.
Any ideas what is wrong?
You can download the latest components manually.
Go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Android\sdk
Open SDK Manager.exe
Update the packages.
Start Android Studio.
Solution for now was to use an older stable version. 1.0.2 worked fine.
Uninstall Android Studio and clean all the junk files, then reinstall it should fix that!
First, Run "Control Panel" ⇒ "Programs and Features" ⇒ Uninstall "Android Studio"
Then make sure to delete any of these files if exist:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk (this directory contains the SDK).
C:\Users\username\.android
C:\Users\username\.AndroidStudioX.X
C:\Users\username\.gradle
C:\Users\username\AndroidStudioProjects (these are the Android projects written by you)
I deleted the folder /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Android/sdk and it worked.
I am developing an Android app using Android Studio (0.89 Build #AI-135.1404660, Built on Sept 3,2014) using both emulator and Nexus 4 device.
I had the same issue with a version prior to that.
The problem is that after I changed my code and resource files, I still get the old apk installed on the device or emulator.
What do I need to do to get it to run current code? Is it a building config?
Is it a known issue with Android Studio?
Or with a Nexus 4 device?
This is the second time it has happened, and I resolved it(then) after trying one of the steps below. They have not worked for me again.
Here is what I've tried
Build > Clean Project > Restart Android Studio > Run
Build > Rebuild Project > Run
Step 1 plus Uninstalling of apk on device
Step 2 plus Unistalling of apk on device
Adding erroneous resource entry then running.
I have read the following:
Android apk install: How to clear files from old version?
adb - How to reinstall an app, without retaining the data?
Device still has the old apk
Android build doesn't update code base or resources for target .apk on device
None has worked so far.
I had the same problem. After trying numerous methods that didn't work, I realized that I had accidentally changed an option in my "Run Configuration". Here's exactly what I did to fix the issue.
Run --> Edit Configurations
With your configuration selected on the left panel (mine says "app"), in the General tab on the right panel, there is a section called "Before launch". This section should have an option added called "Gradle-aware Make", but I had accidentally removed it.
I re-added it by pressing the "+", then clicking OK in the popup (leave the input box in the popup blank).
Click apply.
This fixed the problem immediately. Hope this helps someone!
Run / Debug Configurations / Miscellaneous TAB
[] Uncheck: Skip installation if APK has not changed
Android Studio doesn't always detect small changes in code.
The behaviour is erratic. I solved it by reviewing my code.It turned out that there was a resource file that was invalid. Try reverting back to the last working version of your code before the current changes... Probably a known issue that will be/was resolved out of Beta
Google thinks it is a feature, not a bug
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=156263
Their proposed solution is to copy the apk(s) instead of manipulating the filename, as in e.g.
Copying APK file in Android Gradle project
I've spent way too many hours to keep this to myself. The way I fixed it was that I noticed some hours later that I was using different layout version in res/ .... I have actually two versions of layout (layout-v26) and (layout). All this time I was modifying the other one and uploading different one. Maybe its just a newbie mistake but I hope somebody will find it useful.
The reason why there are 2 version was because of " autofillHints="" -> quickfix -> create new version of layout "
image of my tree
I am using android studio for building flutter app, I was facing the same issue untill I did the following:
From Android Studio, go to Tools-Flutter-FlutterClean
It resolved my problem as of now.
Check Your Layout Files.
I ran into the same problem and I realized, it gives some problem if you have same layout in multiple orientations(portrait and landscape). If one is changed other remains unchanged and then it creates a conflict. So android studio installs the one with the previous layout
PS: This was happening in my case.
The problem occurred on my Android 11 devices. I guess ART ran old code dex2oated.
Solution:
Run / Debug Configurations - General - Always install with package manager (disable deploy optimization on Android 11 and later), and check the option.
I was also facing this issue and get solution by deleting build folder manually because some time ide cannot be able to delete this. So go to the app folder and find build folder delete this and after clean and build project and run again.
projectname->app->build
You should select "Deploy default APK" option in Run/Debug Configurations. After that Android Studio will upload and install new apk to your emulator/device when you run application.
In android studio. at right side. see gradle option. click it. and then press circular arrows button shown in red square.
Same problem, none of the solutions mentioned here had any effect. I had to disable the "Allow parallel run" in "Menu > Run > Edit configurations...".
You can read more about this option here: How to run the same project multiple times in IntelliJ IDEA?
The solution to this issue is actually very simple.
Android studio is actually not detecting some small changes that you have made to the application. That is why it is installing the previous builds.
The solution is easy -> Remove the previous builds.
In the right side, go to gradle tab.
Expand Tasks. Find "clean" or "cleanCache" task or any task that starts with "clean". Double click to run that task.
Expand "app". and do the same.
Then File> Invalidate cache and restart.
Enjoy!! Your problem is solved...
My devices also ran old states - dont know from where in my git it has taken these.
I created a new configuration (default is "app") and it worked.
When I open android studio I am getting an error- "Error loading project: Cannot load 2 facets. When I clicked to see the error the following appeared
"2 facets cannot be loaded. You can mark them them as ignored to suppress this error notification.
Unknown facet type:'android', Unknown facet type:'android-gradle'
I tried to add facets ( In Project Structure > Project settings > Modules > clicked project name, then clicked Android as well as Android-Gradle) But both showed as "cannot load facet, unknown facet type." Under Project settings > Facets > both Android and Android-Gradle are displayed as 'Invalid facets'.
My project was running smoothly. This problem occured when I force-closed my laptop before exiting android studio as everything got stuck. After that whenever I open the android studio this problem occurs. I am not able to run my project. Can anyone please help me to solve this?
Just enable Android Support plugin.
Click Ctrl+Alt+S in Windows or Meta+Comma in Mac.
In top search bar type "plugin".
On right side it will show a list of plugins, find Android Support plugin, check it and click OK at the bottom of screen.
This is how it looks:
In Android Studio go to
File -> Settings - > Plugins -> Enable "Android Support" Plugin.
File, Then Settings->Plugin->Enable/Renable Plugin --> Apply --> Restart
This problem occured when i'd updated Android Studio.
In case nothing from other answers works, you don't have another option, except removing broken settings and making clean setup.
So what i am suggesting:
Use Settings Repository Feature to store personal IDE settings
close studio
remove .AndroidStudioX folder from user folder
re-launch studio, do not copy settings from previous version (because settings probably broken and auto-import couldn't import it well)
import personal settings from Settings Repository
For me I went to Settings -> Plugins and de-selected Gradle then immediately re-selected it. Android Studio then asked if I wanted to enable Groovy so I said yes and let it restart and now everything is happy again! (it was checked, but clearly somewhere deep down not truly enabled, so toggling the check-box sorted it)
Not sure if my cause was installing Flutter, but I did have to disable the Flutter plugin before I could build again.
I had the same problem with an ever-increasing number of facets - first 2, then 4, then 5 - and none of the above solutions worked. My solution (Android Studio 3.3, OS X) was to delete ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio3.3/disabled_plugins.txt, which contained org.jetbrains.android and org.jetbrains.maven
I imagine if you have deliberately disabled plugins then you'll have to disable them again manually, but I was able to load all facets again.
Go To ->File->Settings->Plugins->disable/enable Android Support Plugins->Press Ok
Just re-enable Android Support plugin. Then it will ask to restart.
Restart them thats it
I faced this issue in Android Studio 3.2.1 I had to re-import my project after that it works.
I was facing this problem, I tried everything but nothing worked but then I remembered that I updated Android Studio just few hours back and then I enabled the plugins in the Android Studio and restarted it and it worked.
File -> Settings -> Plugin and then just press ok. It will ask to restart the android studio and please restart it.
For me I had to uncheck the plugin Android APK Support. I clicked Apply and then Ok to close the window. Android Studio prompted me to restart the program, and the program restarted. I checked the Android APK Support plugin again and restarted the program. And then I selected File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
Then it worked just fine.
