Access the Web Server Extensions folder? - sharepoint

I am trying to import a SharePoint web part. A guide I am following to import it refers adding .dll files to a Web server Extensions folder in the Microsoft Shared folder. I don't have that folder. I assume I need a server-connected application for that folder to be created have IIS enabled. There is no indication that the computer I'm using ever had that folder. How is the Web Server Extensions folder created?
I have access to SharePoint and Project servers, but not those Server apps themselves. I have Project 2010 and SharePoint Designer installed. I do not have Windows Server.
**EDIT 7/21/14: **I do not have the web server extensions folder because I do not "have" the actual SharePoint server on my computer. So my question should be, how can I point to the web server extensions folder in the computer that does house the server?
**EDIT 8/5/14: **I can access the server via RDP and see the Web Server Extensions folder. Incidentally, I also have that folder on my computer, with subfolders 15 and 16, despite not running any servers on it. My questions now are:
1) What is the significance of the numbers?
2) How do I copy the extensions to the server's extensions folder if I am connected via RDP?

They are referring to the "web server extensions" folder. The folder is created when any version of SharePoint (foundation or enterprise) is installed. The folder is on your SharePoint server in %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\. Web parts will add files into `%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\TEMPLATE\FEATURES' directory (for SharePoint 2010). For more information:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ms460318(v=office.14).aspx
EDIT:
Here is one way to view the contents of the folder:
Connect to your SharePoint server via Remote Desktop (RDP)
Click On The Start Menu then Computer to open Windows Explorer
Double click the drive SharePoint was installed on. Most commonly it's your C: drive. It may be labeled Local Disk (C:)
Click the following folders:
Program Files
Common Files
Microsoft Shared
web server extensions
Another way to view the contents of the folder would be to connect to the server via RDP, click Start - Run (or press WIN+R), type the following into the run dialog box, then press enter:
%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions
If you provide the steps in the guide you are following I may be able to provide more specific assistance.

Move Physical Path of TFS Web Access Website

I want to move the physical path of TFS Web Access Website (TFS 2015 on Server 2012 R2 and IIS 8) from the default path
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 14.0\Application Tier\Web Services
to another partition and path. I couldn't find anything similar on MSDN.
Is this scenario supported? Has anyone ever done that?
In Short: The scenario is not supported.
To move the whole TFS application and websites, you'll need to re-install the application tier and select another root folder during installation. But it is possible that the presence of common libraries from the previous installation will force you to the system partition.
You should be able to change the Cache folder for TFS through the admin console though:

Why websites created in WebMatrix not visible in IIS?

I have windows 7 home premium. The version of IIS is Home Premium 7.
I have created a website using DotNetNuke through WebMatrix. The files related to the website are created under the "My Documents" folder. However, when I open the IIS window, I do not see any website that I created in WebMatrix through DotNetNuke. Following are my questions:
1) I would like to understand how WebMatrix configures the website to be run without the website being visible under the IIS console?
2) Where does WebMatrix stores the configuration i.e the port assigned to Localhost (In my case it is localhost:32189)
WebMatrix does not create sites under the full version of IIS. It uses IIS Express. If you want your site to run under the full version of IIS, you need to configure that yourself.
You can usually find the IIS Express configuration file in C:\Users\<your-username>\Documents\IISExpress\config\. Its a file called applicationhost.config.

Virtual Directories not showing in IIS? (Visual Studio Application)

I'm attempting to do a second part of a tutorial here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff729689.aspx I'm following the instructions in that I have the OrderServiceProject creating a virtual directory here http://localhost:8087/OrderService. From what I'm seeing, it should be creating successfully, but the OrderService virtual directory doesn't seem to exist according to iis.
I'm completely new to interacting with iis and would appreciate any assistance
You have to select the Web tab in the project properties.
Select your local web servern enter the project url and click on "Create Virtual Directory".
Important Note : Your local IIS server have to be started and binded to port 80. local IIS server is not IIS Express or Visual Studio Web Dev Server.
To open the IIS Manager, run InetMgr in the start menu.

The web server does not appear to have FrontPage Server Extensions installed : visual studio 2012 iis express

I'm using visual studio 2012 and i have a windows form app. the iis express server is configured by default with visual studio 2012.
I have to publish my windows form app. For that, i have create a storege object on azure platform.
But when i try to publish the project using clickonce i have that issue :
Error 83 The Web server does not appear to have FrontPage Server Extensions installed. If FrontPage Server Extensions are installed, this error can occur because the _vti_bin virtual directory is not marked as executable. To correct this problem, run Internet Information Services Manager, select the Web server that has the problem, and then use the Check Server Extensions command.

I had no issue during the creation of my storage object on azure, and the URL is good !
I have installed de FrontPage Server Extension several times and normally it's good.
i really need to publish my project, if someone can help me ...
Thanks for help.
You are trying to do HTTP publish to a server that doesn't have FPSE installed. FPSE was no longer available after Server 2008 (I'm guessing here, I just know it's not available for newer versions of Windows Server).
Instead of doing HTTP, use FTP. So you FTP the files to the web server, and use an HTTP link for the customer to access them.
For example, your publishing file location might be
ftp://myserver.com/myfolder/
and your installation URL would be something like
http://myserver/thefolder/

IIS, Visual Studio 2010: How to exclude files from being in my IIS folder?

I have a Visual Studio solution that is linked to an IIS Virtual Directory. Is there any way to exclude files/folders from my solution from showing up in the IIS Virtual Directory? Oh, and currently I'm running IISV5.1, but on the deployed server it'll probably be IIS6 or II7.
Also, to that point... are there any files/folders that ARE required to stay? Here's a sample of my Virtual Directory:
App_Data\
bin\
bin\MyProject.dll
bin\MyProject.pdb
bin\MyCommons.dll
bin\MyCommons.pdb
obj\
obj\Debug\
obj\Debug\TempPE\
obj\Debug\MyProject.dll
obj\Debug\MyProject.pdb
obj\Debug\MyProject.csproj.FileListAbsolute.txt
obj\Debug\DesignTimeResolveAssemblyReferencesInput.cache
Properties\
Proprties\AssemblyInfo.cs
Service References\
MyProject.csproj
Update.svc
Update.cs
web.config
Web.Debug.config
Web.Release.config
In file explorer change the hidden attribute of the folders and files that you don't want to display in the VS.
When you publish from visual studio it will prepare all the things he must have to run it in a different server.
