Can someone please tell me how to fix the Apple Template in Xcode 6 for a document-based app with Swift. I've tried with and without core data(prefer with), with storyboards instead of regular Xibs. The standard, out of the box template returns a "The [insert document type here] type doesn't map to any NSDocumentClass. It's pretty frustrating when they release a new language with templates that don't work.
With the addition of modules in Xcode 6 and swift, you now have to qualify the document class type. For example, if my application name is MyApp (and I haven't created any other modules), and my document type is MyDoc, in Document Types the class should be listed as MyApp.MyDoc.
I can't post screenshots of this yet because the NDA, but here are the steps to recreate what I changed:
Inside Xcode, click on your application in the explorer pane
Select your application under targets
Click the Info tab on the top toolbar
Expand Document Types
Name - Document Type (your choice)
Class - MyApp.MyDoc <--- Reflects the addition of modules, this won't show up in the dropdown (at least not as of Dev Preview 4)
Extensions - mydoc (your choice)
Icon - your icon image file
Identifier - some unique identifier for the document type, generally use com.companyname.extension
Role - editor (your choice)
Mime Types - None (if you are using an XML Store you could change this to text/xml)
Bundled - false
Additional Info - I didn't have to add this to the exported UTI's, but I think its best practice to do so

I created a sort of template DB for my Xpages applications. It is not a true template, just a design I can grab code from to start a new Xpages db.
I copied over a cc and got this error:
"The unknown namespace tag xe:applicationLayout cannot be used as a control, as the namespace http://www.ibm.com/xsp/coreex is not known."
I tried to creating a new cc in the target db and just pasting the source in, still got that error. What does that error mean and how can I overcome it?
I mean, come on, I can't copy and past design elements from one db to another???
It means that you haven't enabled the ExtLib in the application's properties. If you do to the Xsp Properties (in 9.0+) or Application Properties (in ancient releases), you can enable the com.ibm.xsp.extlib.library library, assuming you have it installed.
There is an event that can be triggered when dropping a native control onto an XPage or Custom Control. That event is used to enable the library in Xsp Properties. It's also used to enable the relevant abbreviation (xe, xc etc) on the pages. The bottom line is copy and paste isn't that sophisticated!
And it's not exclusive to the Extension Library. Try copying and pasting a Custom Control to a brand new XPage and save it. It will give you virtually the same message, but this time saying "xc" is not bound.
You need to enable the Extension Library manually if you're copying a custom control across. Alternatively, you can just drag and drop any Extension Library control onto any page in the application, then delete it!
If you're copying source code from one XPage to another, if it includes anything other than an xp tag, you need to check the relevant xml namespace is specified in the xp:view tag. So in the case of copying source code for the application layout, also adding xmlns:xe="http://www.ibm.com/xsp/coreex" to the xp:view tag.
(This was too long an elaboration to just add as a comment to Jesse's answer, which I've up-voted)
Using 2.0
Getting starting, confortable with Smalltalk, so tool questions I have not found readily in image or 'by Example' book (outdated).
Looking for entry field (not ready-to-use dialog box).
Like:
(TextMorph new) contents: '(enter name here)'; openInWorld.
"but this just opens text, would like to be editable"
Would like to construct [simple] canvas with say four fields e.g. entry, radio, dropdown, etc. examples available?
Anyone know where 'PreferencesBrowser' has been moved to (e.g. keyboard etc.).
Is there a 'Local senders of...' in regard to class browser selected method?
In order to construct a UI you could either use Polymorph or Spec.
For Polymorph examples try in a workspace:
UITheme exampleDialogs.
UITheme exampleBasicControls
For a Spec tutorial have a look at:
Bahman Movaqar, Spec - Part I: The Basics.
The Preferences Browser is replaced by the much nicer Settings Browser which can be found in WorldMenu > System > Settings.
And you can display a method’s senders in Nautilus (the new standard system browser) when you right click on a method name in the method list via the context menu.
You may want to read a Spec tutorial: http://www.bahmanm.com/blogs/spec-part-1-basics
I would like to pass data such as navigation items or languages supported to the portal_normal.vm file so that it gets displayed on the portal.
I don't have a clue about how to do it. I've seen that in velocity files the data is passed in variables as follows:
<title>$the_title - $company_name</title>
I would like to do the same for navigation items and other data in my portal but I have no clue how.
Liferay's themes have a file called init.vm - this initializes quite a bit of the data. If you don't find it in your theme, it will be loaded from the _styled or _unstyled theme that you can find within the portal (or the portal source).
You can also look at the Java side of the equation: There's a class called VelocityVariablesImpl, this initializes "the other" variables in the context.
In addition, you can have a file named init_custom.vm in your custom theme, where you can add more initialization. This file is meant to be empty in default themes, but as it's included and evaluated, you can add your custom variables and initialize them in here.
In VS2012 how do I filter the Object Browser to display objects accessible from my Project?
As far as I can make out from the UI it can be configured to show either
1) Everything installed on the machine.
2) A manually selected subset of everything installed on the machine.
3) Everything referenced by the entire Solution.
So where is the most useful view of all, namely the view of everything referenced by the current Project?
The MSDN even states that you can use it to view what can be referenced by the Project
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/exy1facf%28v=vs.100%29.aspx
"The Object Browser lets you select and examine the namespaces, classes, methods, and other programming symbols available for use in your project."
But I can't see how to do it.
You can use the Class View (Ctrl + Shift + C) to see the references available per project.
Look in the Projects References section of each project in the Class View.
Example: Class Library in Solution
Here, I am looking at the System.Collections classes.
Example: WPF Project in Solution
Here I am looking a the System.Diagnostics classes
To view the class in Object Browser, right click and choose, "Browse Definition".
In Eclipse, it is possible to extend to any pop-up menu using the following special location URI:
popup:org.eclipse.ui.popup.any
Is it possible to do the same for the view menus (the little triangle in each view)? (I am developing an Eclipse RCP application, not extending the IDE. The purpose for this item is to help debugging and testing of the application.).
The short answer: no, that is not possible, unless you add the items by hand for all views.
The slightly longer answer: yes, if you
manually go through the view registry
create a new AbstractContributionFactory with the location URI "menu:<view-id>" and whatever createContributionItems(...) you want for each. (Alternatively you can create AbstractMenuAdditionCacheEntry or even better MenuAdditionCacheEntry - though these are internal and requires a little extra work... The last allows you to have a centrally defined menus extension point that is used for all these additions.)
add these to the workbench using IMenuService.addContributionFactory(AbstractContributionFactory factory) (use IWorkbenchWindow.getService(IMenuService.class) to acquire the menu service).
I haven't tested the above recipe, but I have used something very similar in an application...
