I have this formula in one of the columns in my view in Lotus notes database. However, it does not change the value of the field "EmployeeName" in the view and still displays the original name.
Example:
Original value: Franco Martínez, José Ramó
Expected output: Franco Martinez, Jose Ramo

As the formula is absolutely correct, the issue has to be somewhere else.
You already checked, that the field is summary, so this cannot be the issue.
Please check the programmatic name of the column (last tab in the properties):
Does it happen to match another column in the same view or is it probably "EmployeeName"? Then just remove the name, it will be repopulated by a new unique name.
Explanation:
Duplicate programmatic names mean, that both columns show the same value, and the formula of the second columnn is never executed. If there is a Fieldname in the name of the column, then it will always show the value of that field, no matter what the formula sais.
Another explanation could be that "í" <> "í"... Probably one of them is the representation of another Unicode- Character and just happens to "look" like the other one... You can check this using a button or agent that just #Prompts the value after replacesubstring, or copy the content of the field into a Hex- Editor...
You could also try the #Ascii() - #Function to convert to ascii without having to replace characters.

My goal is to create a highlight function for keywords contained within an associated string, and the overall string variable.
After trying "contains" function, trying variations of the logic contained in these links (1st - https://community.tableau.com/thread/214410, 2nd - https://community.tableau.com/message/846896#846896), and receiving an answer from Tableau Support that they don't know how to highlight keywords contained therein, I wanted to try the Stack OverFlow community before giving up on this one.
To illustrate, below is a table showing my goal with a matrix that contains a keyword and an associated string:
The next shows the ability to select a keyword that is then highlighted within all observations in the string variable:
The closest I have achieved is the following where only the associated string and its entirety are highlighted, as opposed to the broader string variable and just the keyword within the relevant string:
The logic is the following:
Create a parameter for users to enter their search keyword, and create a calculated field to see if the keyword is contained in the Comment field
Create and show a Highlighter for the Comment field.
To use a parameter to call attention to the comment using color:
Create a Parameter called "Search Keyword" with data type string. Select "All" for allowable values.
Create a calculated field called Matches or Color Matches, with the following formula:
CONTAINS([Key Words], [Search Keywords])
OR CONTAINS([Comments], [Search Keywords])
Drag this calculated field onto Color on the Marks card
Right-click the parameter and select "Show Parameter Control
Type the keyword to search and highlight.
To use a Highlighter:
Once the dashboard with keywords and comments has been created, navigate to the options menu for the Comments sheet and select Highlighters > Comments
This now displays a Highlight control which will highlight the row of a comment, instead of changing the text color like the parameter does.
This option will also allow for clicking on keywords, but clicking will only highlight the corresponding comment rather than all comments with the keyword.
As a potential third alternative, if viewers only want to see the matching words and not the entire string, we can modify the parameter method to add an IF statement to the calculated field we created earlier:
IF CONTAINS([Key Words], [Search Keywords])
OR CONTAINS([Comments], [Search Keywords])
THEN [Search Keywords]
END
Do you have any suggestions on how to tweak what I have, or even take a different approach? Any help would be greatly appreciated
As I am sure you know, Tableau is going to colour the entire text string as the CONTAINS condition results in TRUE for the entire string. A different approach could be to restructure your data to a 'long' format with 1 row per word (as below).
Doing this will ensure that Tableau knows each word should be evaluated separately and that the Color Marks Card will partition each word. You can then structure your worksheet like this. To ensure the words are showing in the correct order, you'll need a calculated field to create a unique row (I have called sort_order right("000000" + str([sentence_id]),7) + right("000000" + str([Position]), 7). Note that the Text Marks Card is sorted by sort_order and also that the order in which you drag on/order the Mark Cards is important
The colour_keyword formula then is simply something like [word] = [Keyword Parameter] (maybe check for upper/lowercase variants).
I would recommend maintaining your original table's data structure as well as this 'long table format and link the two datasources via a Relationship (Data > Edit Relationships) and use Dashboard Actions. This would hopefully satisfy your highlight requirements and mean less rework for your other worksheets.

I have a field where Yes and No are the valid selections in the dialoglist, the valid values for the field are setup with Synonyms like this Yes is Y and No is an empty value/blank/nothing.

When the document is saved this the field selection of "No" and re-opened how can I get the form field to display the word "No" when the field is blank?
It's not possible to accomplish that just with an alias definition.
You could work with two fields to get an empty field for "No":
Your current field let's say "TestUI" of type dialog list would have the choises
Yes|Y
No|N
and an additional computed text field "Test" with the formula
#Replace(TestUI; "N"; "")
would replace the "N" with an empty string.
You can avoid the two field solution by using a PostOpen formula:
FIELD MyDialogList := #If(MyDialogList="";"No";MyDialogList);

P.S. I'm not sure what your intention was here, but this is actually not a bad way to deal with the case where you're adding a new field to an old form and you don't want to have to run an agent to add the new field to all previously saved documents. Since formulas just treat missing fields as empty strings, the #If will work as expected.
It seems like you've run into an edge case and you probably will need to assign some value as the alias to "No".
If it is really important to have the value be blank when a user selects No, you could create a second computed field that maintains the alias values. Assuming your dialog list field is called "YesNo", your computed field's formula could be:

Since your data is not "regular", you can try this formula which uses wild card to look for just the last name.
=INDEX($B$1:$B$4,MATCH("*" &MID(A1,FIND(" ",A1)+1,99)&"*",$B$1:$B$4,0))
It would be simpler if the first part followed some rule, but some have the first initial of the first name at the beginning; and others at the end.

The FIND returns the character number of the first space
Add 1 to that to get the character number of the next word
Use MID to extract that word
Use that word in MATCH (with wild-cards before and after), to find it in the array of email addresses. This will return it's position in the array (row number)
Use that row number as an argument to the INDEX function to return the actual email address.
If you want to first examine the email address, you will need to determine which of the letters comprise the last name. Since this is not regular according to your example, you will need to check both options.
You will not be able to look for the first name from the email, as it is not present.
If you can guarantee that the first part will be follow the rule of one or the other, eg: either
FirstInitialLastName or
LastNameFirstInitial
Then you can try this:

Its pretty crazy long and would likely be easier to digest and debug broken up into columns instead of one huge formula.
It basically makes FLast and FirstL out of the name field by splitting on the space.
LastF:
=LOWER(MID(A1,(SEARCH(" ",A1)+1),LEN(A1)))&LOWER(MID(A1,1,1))
And FirstL:
=LOWER(MID(A1,1,1))&LOWER(MID(A1,(SEARCH(" ",A1)+1),LEN(A1)))
We then make 2 vlookups for these by using wildcards:
LastF:
=VLOOKUP([lastfirst equation from above]&"*",$B$1:$B$4,1,FALSE)
And FirstL:
=VLOOKUP([firstlast equation from above]&"*",$B$1:$B$4,1,FALSE)
And then wrap those in IfError so they both get tried:
=IfError([firstLast vlookup],[lastfirst vlookup])
The rub is that's going to be hell to edit if you ever need to, which is why I suggest doing each piece in another column then referencing the previous one.
You also need to be aware that this answer will get tripped up by essentially the same name - e.g. Sam Smith and Sasha Smith would both match whatever the first entry for ssmith was. Any solution here will likely have the same pitfall.

I would like to make a dynamically solution, for searching a text pattern from one table if it is also in the text of an other table (in different columns).
(Dynamically, I mean if the are elements are added, deleted, changed)
So searching if one the elements from column 'ID_type' can be found in the text of column 'element'

In a way it seems that there is an issue with array formulas
So when I do a one to one 'search' it seems to work =SEARCH("*"&B2&"*";$B8)
But when I do it with an array (despite it is still an array but with "\" instead of { "genk" ; "mol" ; "leuven" ; ... }), it seems to be a problem, or not working the way I wished. =SEARCH(CONCATENATE("*";OR(Table1[[stad 1]:[stad 3]]);"*");B8)
So I give it a last try.
But with OR or without gives the same result.
And to check if it maybe a problem is with CONCATENATE, I created a simular table with the wildcard already implemented.

You may have to change ; to , and , to . according to your local.

Here's another solution without using Regex. It tests each element in the first column of the table in A1:A7 (ID_type) using FIND to see if it is a substring of the element in A25 and below. The row numbers of any matching cells in a1:a7 are stored in an array. Because you want the first match, it uses MIN to find the lowest row number. If there is no match, it stores a reference to a cell which is outside the table, i.e. A8. I'm using FIND because I don't want to match lowercase, otherwise ... "3 spots plafond" would match with A because it has an 'a' in it.
If you enter the array formula in (say) d25 and pull it down, it will give the row number of the first matching cell in the table. If you enter the second formula in (say) e25 and pull it down, it will give the corresponding cell in another column of the table, in this case column B (type).
The first formula in structured form is:-
=MIN(IF(ISERROR(FIND(T_rec_by_type[[#Data],[ID_type]],A25)),ROW(A$8),ROW(T_rec_by_type[[#Data],[ID_type]])))
and the second one in structured form is
=IFERROR(INDEX(T_rec_by_type[[#All],[type]],D25),"Not found")
The formulae in ordinary notation (which I find a bit easier) are

and
=IFERROR(INDEX(B$1:B$7,D25),"Not found")
ROW(A$8) above is just a not very subtle way of getting a row number which is greater than that of any rows in the table. You could just use an arbitrary large number, or perhaps add a Totals row to the first table and use that to get the reference.
I haven't been able to work out why your vlookup didn't work with the table (it's OK if I copy the cells somewhere else), perhaps other people can comment.

this will give you the first (left-most) of the "keywords" that appears in the corresponding "element" cell.
This is almost there. but you say that the "SSR" sensor is more important than V, so that's the one that should be displayed if they both appear.
this is not pretty, but will work (if u provide more details on possible "ID_type"s and the order of things in "element" field i might be able to come up with something more elegant...) :

In my Lotus Notes Database, I want to fill the choices available in a dialog list based on the previously entered values for this field.
I set type of the field to "Dialog list", chose "Use formula for choices" and selected "Allow values not in list".
However, I don't know what to enter as a formula:
The formula's result should be all values for the field Foo specified in the database.
I tried the following formula which results in an empty list, however:
#Unique(SELECT Foo)
There are definitely documents with values for Foo in the database.
Which formula can I use?
Or do you know better solutions to my problem than using a formula?

You need to create a view with at least a column that displays the Foo field. You can then use #DbColumn in your formula to retrieve all values from e.g. column 1 containing the Foo field:
#Unique(#DbColumn("";"":"database.nsf";"Your new view";1))

Database parameter can be empty, if you are reading from the current. If there is a problem with cache, you can make first parameter like - #DbColumn("":"NoCache";...
