Is it possible to add scripts (like curl) to /etc/hosts? I am trying to set up a subdomain over ddns, and it's really hard to update my /etc//hosts file on the fly when my IP address updates without my knowledge. Thanks in advance.
No it's not. However, you will probably have some scripts that can be triggered when you get an IP address or something similar and those can be used to rewrite your /etc/hosts.

I am trying to host a website and want to get notified when that url comes online.
ping -i 60 -a <IP_ADDRESS> sends an audible alarm when IP is online.

I'm trying to set up my own cloud network and just got it to work the way I want it to, but I was hoping to linking it to a domain I own over at Godaddy. I want to use a subdomain for the cloud-thingy, but I don't want to link it to the ip alone. I'd rather link it to i.e "11.222.333.44/storage", instead of just "11.222.333.44" so I can still host a website at my domain's root
It seems like you need a Name-based Virtual Host, read the Apache docs.

Suppose I'm using the write command to send messages to another host on the server. Can the root user or any other user get to know that we are interacting?
This can easily be done by any user that can capture packets on the interface (including root) and any intermediary devices. Moreover, root could in theory install additional mechanisms to hijack/inspect traffic.

A computer has been overloaded with too many windows/programs at once which leads to crash. Unfortunately the system is configured (somehow) to reload all of these windows/programs on reboot, does anyone know how to get around this and have a clean boot? Thank you..
Log into a terminal (hit ALT+CTRL+F1) and edit/remove your session file (dependent on desktop environment).
