CommandLink with parameter in actionListener method doesn't work inside f:facet of datatable - jsf

I'd like to be able to click the headers in a table to sort the respective columns. When I try to do this with a h:commandLink and pass the column name as a parameter I get an error saying that the commandLink needs to be ended with > or />, which I do. Example:
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:commandLink
value="name"
actionListener="#{albumListBean.sort("album_name")}">
</h:commandLink>
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{item.name}" styleClass="tableItem" />
</h:column>
I get the same result using f:ajax or p:commandLink. If I remove the parameter however, I get no error (but of course the sorting doesn't work either).
Is it not allowed to pass a parameter this way inside the f:facet?

The strings inside EL expressions must be expressed inside simple cotes :
<h:commandLink
value="name"
actionListener="#{albumListBean.sort('album_name')}">
</h:commandLink>

update datatable footer primefaces (facet or columnGroup)

I want to make a footer in dataTable and I need to update when the values inside the DT changes.
The problem is that ajax update simply don't occurs.
I've tried two ways:
<p:dataTable
id="dataTableAvaliacao" var="aluno"
value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.alunos}">
<p:column>
<p:inputText id="inputNota"
value="#{aluno.getNota(avaliacao.property).vlNotaString}">
<p:ajax event="change"
update=":form:dataTableAvaliacao:mediaAluno, :form:dataTableAvaliacao:mediaAvaliacao" />
</p:inputText>
</p:column>
<p:columnGroup type="footer" id="mediaAvaliacao">
<p:row>
<p:column
footerText="Nota média da avaliação" />
</p:row>
<p:row>
<ui:repeat value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.colunasAvaliacoes}"
var="avaliacao">
<p:column id="colunaMedia"
footerText="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.getMediaAvaliacao(avaliacao.property)}"/>
</ui:repeat>
</p:row>
</p:columnGroup>
<p:dataTable>
The update doesn't occurs...
second way (based on this answer on SO: How to ajax update an item in the footer of a PrimeFaces dataTable?):
<p:remoteCommand name="refreshFooter" update=":form:dataTableAvaliacao:outputMediaAvaliacao"/>
<p:dataTable
id="dataTableAvaliacao" var="aluno"
value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.alunos}">
<p:column>
<p:inputText id="inputNota"
value="#{aluno.getNota(avaliacao.property).vlNotaString}">
<p:ajax event="change"
update=":form:dataTableAvaliacao:mediaAluno" oncomplete="refreshFooter();" />
</p:inputText>
</p:column>
<p:dataTable>
<f:facet name="footer">
<h:outputText colspan="1" value="Nota média da avaliação:"/>
<ui:repeat value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.colunasAvaliacoes}"
var="avaliacao">
<h:outputText id="outputMediaAvaliacao"
value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.getMediaAvaliacao(avaliacao.property)}"
</ui:repeat>
</f:facet>
I've also tried
<p:remoteCommand name="refreshFooter" update=":form:outputMediaAvaliacao"/>
If I put
<p:ajax event="change"
update=":form:dataTableAvaliacao:mediaAluno, :form:dataTableAvaliacao" />
in the first way, it works, but I don't wanna update all dataTable every time.
What I'm doing wrong? is it a bug?
Referring on 2nd way from your question that you based on this answer...
actually it is possible to update p:dataTable footer (even from within table itself)...but with one modification of your code.
Reason why your implementation does not work is that you did not take into account that <h:outputText id="outputMediaAvaliacao"../> is wrapped with ui:repeat.
In that case, p:remoteCommand is not able to find h:outputText component ID defined in update attribute because that ID does not exist in DOM:
ui:repeat is actually copying h:outputText as many times as list from value attribute is long and appending all parent IDs to newly created native HTML components
<span id="form:dataTableAvaliacao:avaliacao:0:outputMediaAvaliacao">...</span>
<span id="form:dataTableAvaliacao:avaliacao:1:outputMediaAvaliacao">...</span>
<span id="form:dataTableAvaliacao:avaliacao:2:outputMediaAvaliacao">...</span>
...
(you can see the same using DOM inspector of your favorite browser)
SOLUTION
After you learn and understand all facts stated above (like I did :) ), solution is quite simple:
wrap ui:repeat with some parent element and assign ID to parent element. For example like this
<f:facet name="footer">
<h:outputText value="Nota média da avaliação:"/>
<h:panelGroup id="footerPanel">
<ui:repeat value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.colunasAvaliacoes}"
var="avaliacao" id="avaliacao">
<h:outputText id="outputMediaAvaliacao" value="#{alunoAvaliacaoMB.getMediaAvaliacao(avaliacao.property)}" />
</ui:repeat>
</h:panelGroup>
</f:facet>
and modify p:ajax of p:inputText to update newly created element after text is changed
<p:ajax event="change" update=":form:dataTableAvaliacao:footerPanel" />
On this way all children elements of h:panelGroup will be updated (meaning only footer will be updated and not entire table).
And now, after you solved updating, you can focus on designing of all UI elements under h:panelGroup to make them fit your requirements.

Two buttons ( that generate inputtexts when clicked ) don't work on the same Facelet

I have two buttons that generate inputtexts when clicked. The problem is, when these two buttons are on the same xhtml, wichever is the first one, it is the only one that works.
If you need, here is an explanation on the Code 1 below:
It represents two inputtexts to get the name
and email of the author of a Document. moreAuthors represents
the method getMoreAuthors() that belongs to the Managed Bean inserirBean.
getMoreAuthors() returns a List<AuthorBean>.
The List<AuthorBean> is a property from the Managed Bean inserirBean.
The class AuthorBean creates the instances of Author, it has a property called
Author author.
AddAuthor() adds one more AuthorBean to the List<AuthorBean> in
Managed Bean inserirBean.
If you need, here is an explanation on the Code 2 below:
It follows the same structure from Code 1. Here, there's only one
inputtext that is used to get a subject of a Document.
moreSubjects returns a List<SubjectBean>. The class SubjectBean
creates the instances of the class Subjects.
SubjectBean has a property Subject sub,
and Subject has a property called String subject.
AddSubject() adds one more SubjectBean to the List<SubjectBean> in
Managed Bean inserirBean.
Code 1- If this is the only one on the xhtml, it works:
<h:form >
<h:dataTable value="#{inserirBean.moreAuthors}" var="authorBean">
<h:column>
Nome do Autor:
<h:inputText value="#{authorBean.author.name}" />
</h:column>
<h:column>
Email do Autor:
<h:inputText value="#{authorBean.author.email}" />
</h:column>
<f:facet name="footer">
<h:panelGroup>
<h:commandButton value="+" action="#{inserirBean.addAuthor()}" />
</h:panelGroup>
</f:facet>
</h:dataTable>
</h:form>
2- If this is the only one on the xhtml, it works too:
<h:form >
<h:dataTable value="#{inserirBean.moreSubjects}" var="subjectBean">
<h:column>
Palavras-chave:
<h:inputText value="#{subjectBean.sub.subject}" />
</h:column>
<f:facet name="footer">
<h:panelGroup>
<h:commandButton value="+" action="#{inserirBean.addSubject}" />
</h:panelGroup>
</f:facet>
</h:dataTable>
</h:form>
BUT, if I put these two blocks on the same xhtml, the one that appears first on the browser, always works, and the second, never - and I've already tried to change their position, but whichever I put first place on screen is the one that works.
What's causing this problem?
Thank you!
I just put the two datatables in code 1 and 2 inside the same <form> block and both worked.

How to reuse the jsf component parameters?

I have code
<p:column id="columnLastComment" headerText="LAST COMM" width="80"
styleClass="long-field" filterStyleClass="flt-hidden"
style="#{alarmTable.getDisplayStatus('columnLastComment')}"
sortBy="#{alarm.lastComment}" filterBy="#{alarm.lastComment}">
<h:outputText value="#{alarm.lastComment}" />
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="LAST COMM" title="Last Comment"
styleClass="tableHeader-fontSize" />
</f:facet>
</p:column>
How i can use id of column in style value? example -
style="#{alarmTable.getDisplayStatus('[id of this column]')}"
Theoretically, you could get away with the implicit EL variable #{component} to get the current component, like so:
<h:outputText id="foo" styleClass="#{bean.styleClass(component.id)}" />
But, unfortunately, the UIColumn component has a special treatment. The #{component} refers the parent UIData component instead, which would in your case be the <p:dataTable>.
So, you've really to repeat it (like as you're already doing for the phrase "lastComment". You could maybe make it less painful by using a property of #{alarm}.

Generate unique id for h:dataTable in the loop

I am using JSF 2.0. When I am trying to use a variable in the 'id' attribute of the h:dataTable its not taking that variable value.
I have h:dataTable inside ui:repeat with id values as index of ui:repeat as mentioned below.
<ui:repeat var="planMap" value="#{planAccountMap.entrySet().toArray()}" varStatus="planMapStatus">
<h:dataTable id="planTable#{planMapStatus.index}" value="#{planMap.value}" var="accountList">
Does any one know whether we can have dynamic id generated for h:dataTable in loop?
I have a Java script which is making use of table id, but as I am not able to have the unique id for each table in the loop, its breaking.
Any component inside of a repeatable component will always have a dynamic client id. You cannot do this.
Perhaps instead you can assign a unique style class to the dataTable component and use a jQuery selector to return an array of all the dataTable objects in the ui:repeat.
jQuery('.SomeClass');
I do some thing very similar to you. i have a UI:repeat inside a datatable column. tbh, if you check in fire bug, your datatable id would be unique as you put it inside a ui:repaet.
planMap:0:yourdatatableID
This problem can be solve by using datatable inside datatable. Second datatable is kept inside the column of the first datatable as below.
<h:dataTable id="outerTable" value="#{planAccountMap.entrySet().toArray()}" var="planMap" width="100%">
<h:column>
<h:dataTable id="planTable" value="#{planMap.value}" var="accountList"
headerClass="tablehead"
rowClasses="'',altrowcoloropt1"
first="0">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Date" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{accountList.date}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header" >
<h:outputText value="Account Name" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{accountList.accountName}"/>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
By this you would get unique id as outerTable:0:planTable, outerTable:1:planTable.This even extend the unique id to each element in datatable as outerTable:1:planTable:1:columnid , outerTable:0:planTable:0:columnid

Value of <h:selectBooleanCheckbox> inside <p:dataTable> remains false on submit

I have a primefaces datatable and inside the primefaces datatable, I have a column, which contains the . The issue is,I have set the default value for the as false. When I click/check the , its still retrieving the value as false. I tried it multiple times but not sure why its returning false. Please find the sample code below.
<p:dataTable id="review-table" var="item" value="#{demandBean.filterVOList}">
<p:column id="SelectallID" style="text-align: left; width:40px;" rendered="#{demandBean.screeRenderVo.selectAllRenderer}">
<f:facet name="header" >
<h:outputText id="selectId" value="#{demandBean.dmdScreenLabelVO.selectAll}" />
<div></div>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="checkbox1" value="Select All" onclick="checkAll(this)"/>
</f:facet>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="checkbox2" value="#{item.selected}"/>
</p:column>
Im getting the value as false, when I check the and click on the save button. I have written an Action listerner, below is the code corresponding to the actionListener
public void saveData(ActionEvent event)
{
System.out.println("Entering the Save :");
selected = isSelected();
System.out.println("value of Selected"+selected);
}
I have tried debugging the code as well, but not sure why the value for is getting displayed as false. Please Assist. Thanks in Advance
You seem to be binding the value of all checkboxes in the column to the one and same bean property. This way the value will ultimately end up to be the one of the last row in the column.
This is not how it's supposed to be used.
You basically need to bind the value of the checkbox to the property of the currently iterated row object (the one behind the var attribute of the datatable).
<p:dataTable value="#{bean.items}" var="item">
<p:column>
<p:selectBooleanCheckbox value="#{item.selected}" />
Alternatively, you could use the <p:column selectionMode="multiple" /> to use builtin multiple selection support of the PrimeFaces datatable (see also the showcase example).
<p:dataTable value="#{bean.items}" var="item" rowKey="#{item.id}" selection="#{bean.selectedItems}">
<p:column selectionMode="multiple" />
