I am very new to htaccess rewrite rules. I need to rewrite the url myurl.com/1000/samsung-123 to myurl.com/user/product.php?id=1000. I have used the following rewrite rule in my .htaccess file.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ([0-9]+)/(.*)$ user/product.php?id=$1 [PT,L]
The rule works fine. However it also rewrites my images url like myurl.com/img/_product/1000/1000A.jpg.
How can I prevent this one? Is there a way to skip the rule if extension (as .jpg, .png, .php) is entered in the url?
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond img/_product/$1/$1A.jpg !-f
RewriteRule ([0-9]+)/(.*)$ user/product.php?id=$1 [PT,L]
Perhaps that will help.
Fixed.
You can use the following to skip static files. This will allow not only images, but also stylesheets, scripts and so on that you might use.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule .? - [L]
RewriteRule ([0-9]+)/(.*)$ user/product.php?id=$1 [PT,L]

I want to rewrite these .htaccess rules into a templates to use it for my other pages as well:
RewriteRule ^admin/add-news/?$ admin/add_news.php [L]
RewriteRule ^admin/edit-news/([0-9a-z-#._]+)/([0-9]+)/?$ admin/edit_news.php?name=$1&id=$2 [L]
For example:
RewriteRule ^admin/([a-z-])/?$ admin/$1.php [L]
RewriteRule ^admin/([a-z-])/([0-9a-z-#._]+)/([0-9]+)/?$ admin/$1.php?name=$2&id=$3 [L]
I tested the latest rules on WAMP and it does not work. It returns: 404 Not Found error
The requested URL was not found on this server.
The full .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php
RewriteRule ^admin/add-news/?$ admin/add_news.php [L]
RewriteRule ^admin/edit-news/([0-9a-z-#._]+)/([0-9]+)/?$ admin/edit_news.php?name=$1&id=$2 [L]
Files locations are:
1. C:\wamp64\www\test.com
2. C:\wamp64\www\test.com\admin\add_news.php
C:\wamp64\www\test.com\admin\edit_news.php
3. I want redirect from URLs with underscores to hyphens, for example:
from admin/add_news.php to admin/add-news
Also from admin/edit_news.php?name=%1&id=%2 to admin/edit-news/name/id
Example: admin/edit-news/my-news-title/2
Any ideas how to fix it? Thank you.
With your shown attempts, please try following htaccess rules file.
Make sure that your .htaccess is present along with your admin folder AND make sure to clear your browser cache before testing your URLs.
Samples specific rules:
RewriteEngine ON
RewriteBase /test.com/
##First rule for hitting url admin/add-news in browser.
RewriteRule ^test\.com/admin/([\w-]+)/?$ admin/$1.php [QSA,NC,L]
##Second rule for hitting url admin/edit-news/name/id in browser.
RewriteRule ^test\.com/admin/([\w-]+)/([^/]*)/(\d)+/?$ admin/$1.php?name=$2&id=$3 [QSA,NC,L]
Generic rules:
RewriteEngine ON
RewriteBase /test.com/
##First rule for hitting url admin/add-news in browser.
RewriteRule ^test\.com/admin/([^-]*)-([^/]*)/?$ admin/$1_$2.php [QSA,NC,L]
##Second rule for hitting url admin/edit-news/name/id in browser.
RewriteRule ^test\.com/admin/([^-]*)-([^/]*)/([^/]*)/(\d)+/?$ admin/$1_$2.php?name=$3&id=$4 [QSA,NC,L]
I'm trying to rewrite and remove extension
http://www.example.com/pages/cart.php
to
http://www.example.com/cart
My htaccess file is located in the public folder.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule (.*) pages/$1 [L]
With your shown attempts, please try following htaccess Rules. Make sure you keep your htaccess file along with pages folder(not inside it).
Also make sure to clear your browser cache before testing your URLs.
RewriteEngine ON
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/pages/(cart)\.php\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1? [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*)/?$ pages/$1.php [L]
how to write RewriteRule to access php file as html extension, the mark file is located inside folder called domain.com/markfolder/mark.php
and i got following in my root directory
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RedirectMatch 301 (.*)\.html$ $1.php
and below file i try to locate inside domain.com/markfolder/.htaccess
try 1
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^mark\.php$ mark.html [NC,R]
try 2
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html $1\.php
try 3
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.+)\.html$ $1.php [NC,L]
above three try simple doesn't work.
First, your htaccess file in your root directory is causing the problem. It's redirecting .html to .php and is part of mod_alias, not mod_rewrite. This means requests will get processed by both the RedirectMatch as well as any rewrite rules. So first change your root htaccess to:
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1.php [L,R=301]
Not sure why you want to permanently redirect, since this will affect all requests even requests in subdirectories. It seems like it's not what you want and will only break any attempt for you to rewrite.
Then in the htaccess file in your markfolder:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1.php [L]
currently i have a /en/ folder that is empty except for a .htaccess with the following
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ../index.php?language=en$1 [NC]
i use it to eliminate the need for
index.php?language=en
in all my URLs. I would like to modify the htaccess in a way that i no longer need the /en/ folder with nothing but the htaccess inside. ideally i would like an htaccess in my root folder that reads the url and if it is www.example.com/en/ to rewrite to www.example.com/index.php?language=en
This should work for you:
RewriteRule ^en/(.*)$ index.php?language=en$1 [NC]
Put the following code in .htaccess file in your root folder.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^en/(.*)$ index.php?language=en$1 [L]
Here $1 will append rest of the url as well. The condition will also help if you request your files using direct url.
I used a generator to make my SEO friendly htaccess rewrite, here it is.
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*) /detail.php?type=$1&?id=$2 [L]
The output should be www.site.com/type/id
Now, the rewrite works and pages redirect fine, BUT the images on the site no longer show up, they're all broken... :( The URL for the images is right but seems it just doesn't want to load anymore, any help? Should there be another Rewrite rule to cancel out this one from doing other stuff? If so, what?
Your existing rule could affect images. To prevent that, use a RewriteCond directive that will exlcude extensions for images etc. being affected by the rule You can add other extensions as necessary.
#if its not an image, css, js etc
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(gif|jpg|png|css|js|etc)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*) /detail.php?type=$1&?id=$2 [L]
I'm not sure how your .htaccess looks like, but here is handy rules that I'm using for my projects, it's pretty simple and covers most of the problems:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
############################################
# Enable mod_rewrite
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
############################################
## always send 404 on missing files in these folders
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(media|assets)/
############################################
# never rewrite for existing files, directories and links
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule .*$ index.php [L]
</IfModule>
