I've downloaded the stable version of cocos2d-x 2.1.4 to use on Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Professional.
However, as I run install-templates-msvc.bat, running the script causes the following errors:
Couldn't find script file "<cocos2d-x directory>\cocos2d-x-2.1.4\template\msvc\InstallWizardForVS2012.js"
Couldn't find script file "<cocos2d-x directory>\cocos2d-x-2.1.4\template\msvc\InstallWizardForVS2012Express.js"
Same errors for VS2010 and VS2010Express also appears.
As I search in the template folder in cocos2d-x directory, there is no folder named msvc.
So I have 2 questions:
I'm wondering why this is happening, because I did not modify a single file from the zipped version of the download (I've also tried downloading it again).
Building the solution cocos2d-win32.vc2012 terminates with 2 errors, one for Watermelon something and another for CocosdragonJS. My temporary attempt was to remove them from the solution, but I'm wondering if there are any fancier solution. Perhaps I missed something at installation?
Try Cocos2dx rc0 2.1.3 It worked for me or copy .txt file in .sln project then remove it. MSVS Ultimate edition automatically fixes the errors.

Android Studio displays in all java files in red : “cannot resolve symbol R” but the project compiles and runs.
I have tried every solution here:

clean and rebuild the project
install a new version of android studio
mess up with gradle file then undo changes and sync project
One thing that I want to try, but I don't know how to achieve, is to reopen the project from scratch as I was opening it for the first time, but I don't know how to do this.

dependency versions in gradle project file:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.4.0-alpha01'
classpath 'com.google.gms:google-services:4.0.0'
For some reason that i do not understand ,
this combination of build versions made the issue :
grade version = 4.10.1
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.4.0-alpha01'
when i switched to these build versions :
grade version = 4.6
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.2.1'
The issue was solved !
File -> Close project

sometimes, R file is not generated because of package name on android manifest is not match with package module that you have.
Is any wrong syntax or spelling in your xml?
Check your layout or any xml file.
Android Studio seems to have a caching issue with R.java occasionally. I rarely have a problem with this, but when I do, I actually open R.java (double press shift and type "R.java") or navigate to R.java under "app/build/generated/source" directory, opening the file and checking if the relevant XML id has been created. If it has, it forces Android Studio to now recognise the id's that are not being resolved. It's quick to try, and doesn't require clean and rebuild.
From your programs menu, open android studio. instead of opening your project from the recent files, select to open a project from your computer and then locate the path to your project. When all else fails, sometimes this works.
Also, try commenting out the support libraries from your gradle implementation, sync your project, and after sync fails comment them back in and sync again. (not sure if that's what you tried already when you said you messed with the gradle file)
In my case,
I am using
- Android Studio version 3.3.1 at home
- Android Studio version 3.2.1 at office
When i pulled projects to my office computer that are firstly created at my home computer ,
Android Studio can not resolved R file but runs application with no error. Because projects gradle and Android Studio version are incompatible.
Only thing that you sholud do, change the gradle version in project level gradle file
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.3.1'
to
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.2.1'
I was facing same issue,
first thought the issue might because of some xml file or naming of drawable resources incorrectly. After analysing, this case wasn't applicable to me.
So
Updating Android studio from older version 3.2 to newer version 3.3.2 along with new build tool version from SDK manager resolved this issue
for me.
I've tried invalidate cache and Restart AS with clean rebuild all the options but didn't work for me.
It says cannot resolve symbol, but it can run.
In my case, I just reload the needed *.jar files to the libs folder.

Sync

It looks like the library did not load my "imports" properly the first time.
That's why the import methods cannot be seen in my main_activity.xml.
This happened to me when I was going back and forth between different SDK versions.
Apparently SDK manager copied all the source files but it didn't finish cleanly. As a result I could compile and run my project just fine but IDE didn't recognize the SDK and reported all java symbols unresolved.
None of the above and other solutions in SO didn't work for me, but just uninstalling/reinstalling the specific SDK version did a job.
If you renamed your package (inside java folder), make sure you change your Manifest package name to the same
The only thing that worked for me was,
replacing,
import package_name.R
with
import package_name.*
simply go to project settings : settings.gradel and change the rootProject.name to your current name
rootProject.name = "write the project name here"
I am developing an speech recognition application using Sphinx4. I am trying to do acoustic model adaptation. I have followed every step of the instruction on the http://cmusphinx.sourceforge.net/wiki/tutorialadapt tutorial. However, in the step where i need to run the bw, it cannot open the mdef file and shows an Debug Assertion Fail.
I have been working on this for days but still dont know how to solve it. I am using Windows 10, ptm model, visual studio 2015, the latest sphinx4 5prealpha version.
I just found out the answer. I think it could have been because that i forgot to download Perl or something went wrong during my installation of Sphinxbase.
I first installed Perl. However, it still didnt work, so i re-built Sphinxbase and copied it back to Sphinxtrain, and it finally run.

This comment / solution is just based on my experience as I am not an expert on this. I had this same exact error after following all the instructions from adapting-the-model and looks like the mdef file from sourge-forge is corrupted. So I landed up on a comment on some other website where it mentioned to download the setup files for pocketsphinx, sphinxbase and sphinxtrain from github directly. So I downloaded it from here GitHub and followed the same steps from before. Since I was working on windows, I rebuilt using VS Studio later, after upgrading the project from 2012 to latest version.
Steps (from GitHub)-
You should download and unpack it to the same parent directory as PocketSphinx, so that the configure script and project files can find it. On Windows, you will need to rename 'sphinxbase-X.Y' (where X.Y is the SphinxBase version number) to simply 'sphinxbase' for this to work.
To compile the SphinxTrain under MS Visual Studio 2010
load SphinxTrain.sln located in SphinxTrain directory
compile all the projects in SphinxTrain (from SphinxTrain.sln)
MS Visual Studio will build the executables under .\bin\Release or .\bin\Debug (depending on the version you choose on MS Visual Studio), and the libraries under .\lib\Release or .\lib\Build.
Once you finished with compilation, copy the pocketsphinx and sphinxbase tools and dlls from sphinxbase\bin\Releae and pocketsphinx\bin\Release to sphinxtrain\bin\Release folder. This will enable you to run the training process which expects to see all the tools and libraries in sphinxtrain\bin\Release.
the newest node.js 0.12.0 doesnt work together with the sqlite3 package. i found nvm for windows: nvm for windows https://github.com/coreybutler/nvm-windows/releases . i thought nice to use the old and new node.js versions on 1 computer.
after installing nvm for windows in c:\nvm , i get in visual studio 2013 in debug that there is a fault in npm : illigal characters in path resulting in exit debug program . Outside Visual Studio it works fine.
As I mentioned in my comment, I had a very similar problem. After installing node.js for purpose of using gulp I could not do a successful build. I would get the following error:

error : Illegal characters in path.

I ran flatten packages on the "node_modules" folder, tried to build (failed but with a different error), restarted Visual Studio, and everything now seems to build ok. Hope this helps.
UPDATE
One thing to keep in mind is that, by design, Flatten Packages will move files up in the directory structure. As a consequence, however, Visual Studio will still look for some of the folder/files in the OLD location; VS will shows the [!] symbol to show that the file was there but no longer is. These old file references can gum up the build, so you need to simply delete these old file references/directories.

I also had this problem with "Illegal characters in path" and found that the best solution for me and my team was to make Visual Studio use the latest npm version (>= 3.0) since the node_modules folder depth doesnt get as deep as with npm2 (used by Visual Studio).
This solution will work for you in the background, not needing to run extra commands and tools for flattening the folder.

I have a project which I am trying to run (in both normal and debug modes) but every time I run it, it throws the error:
The program cannot start because MSVCP90.dll missing from your computer. Try re installing to fix your problem.
After going through lot of posts about the same problem I've tried the following things but nothing seems to work.
Found this .dll file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\15.0\Synchronization Service\Bin\Microsoft.VC90.CRT and copy pasted it in C:\Windows\System32\. Checked that the environmental variable path has system32 in it.
Checked in the project properties and have set the Embed Manifest option under Manifest Tool-> Input and Output as Yes for Debug as well as Release modes
The project I am building depends on 3 other projects (they are in same solution) and have set Embed Manifest as yes for all of them. Another .exe built for same project built on other machine runs perfectly fine on my machine but the one that I build on the same machine does not work.

I couldn't get igraph to work with Visual Studio 2010 (supposedly many known issues), and so decided to try installing it in Cygwin. ./configure went fine. But make gave this error:
f2c/dtime_.c:16:23: fatal error: sys/times.h: No such file or directory
Makefile:2190: recipe for target `libf2c_la-dtime_.lo' failed
make[3]: *** [libf2c_la-dtime_.lo] Error 1
I tried installing it in MinGW and get the same error when I make. Should I be providing "sys/time.h" or a path to it? Where is sys/time.h? Using Windows 7.

The problems in Cygwin and MinGW was due to the wrong version of gcc being used by my clean installation of Cygwin (and a characteristic of MinGW). Solution here: Installing/compiling in Cygwin/MinGW - How to set the include "path"? (symbolic link?)
The problem in Visual Studio 2010 was due to building in "Debug" instead of "Release". One of igraph's creator, Gábor Csárdi, graciously provided an excellent step-by-step guide below that identified and resolved it.
Igraph actually does work with Visual C++ 2010 Express, we test this before releases, and I have just tried it. You need to do the following steps.
Download the source package specifically created for Visual Studio.
Uncompress the file into My Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects.
Open the igraph.sln solution file in igraph-0.6-msvc\igraph-0.6-msvc directory from Visual Studio.
Visual Studio offers to convert the solution file to the current format, do that. Just click on Next, Next and Finish.
On the toolbar, change 'Debug' to 'Release' to make release builds.
Choose Debug -> Build solution and wait until the library is built.
To test it you can open the solution file in the igraphtest directory, convert it as well, choose 'Release' builds, and then build it and run it from the command line. It is a simple C++ program that uses igraph to create a graph and write it into the file out.txt.
You don't have to set up include and library directories at all, everything is set up properly in the solution file, both for igraph and igraphtest.
