I ran Visual Studio 2012 today and tried to create a new solution with projects contained within.
The class source code for the boiler-plate Class1 file is not visible. If I create a new class, the source code is also not visible.
When I click on a class file, the tab file opens with the class name but there is no source code. Just a background color that was there before. If I try to open any class file in notepad then the source code is visible. The only thing I have done today is uninstall continuous tests after having a play with it. This happens on any new project I create or with existing projects.
Has anyone seen this before and do you have a solution? Ta very much.

Ok, so problem solved. I had uninstalled Continuous Tests via the control panel and that was that. However, the plug-in was still visible from the Visual Studio add-in manager. I performed an uninstall from there and everything started working fine again. Source code is now visible. I can only put it down to the incorrect uninstall procedure. – DannyDuttser

I am trying to merge a few projects into one and therefore have to import either the projects or the modules. When i try "import project..." however, Android Studio will just open another instance of itself, not making any changes to the project. When i try import module, it will gray out the "Finish" button as soon as a module is checked for importing. If none is checked, it will let me continue... and do nothing as expected.
I am using Ubuntu and Android Studio Arctic Fox (newest version, freshly updated)
I already reinstalled and tried to fiddle around with project settings without any results.
I have not found a solution, but i found a workaround. It is possible to merge projects manually by copying the desired module folder "as is" into the new project folder and then copy the file ".idea/modules/modulename.iml" from the old project to the new one. Then one has to add "include ':modulename'" to the settings.gradle and add the path to the .iml file to .idea/modules.xml according to the format the other modules are saved in. Manually invoking gradle synch will update the project structure or show errors, if some were made.
Hi I am new to programming and wanted to create a new project in Android Studio for experimentation.
I wanted to start with the Empty activity which creates the Hello World program but suddently its no longer possible. The window which I get when I click
is compleatly different.
Instead of getting the window which lets me select the target API and activity type I get this
And from there It only lets me select project name and whether or not it creates the basic main main java method. No XML no nothing.
I dont know what happened
EDIT: I would like to add that I deleted .gardle yesterday once because it was a solution to another problem I had earlier
I solved this myself by resetting Android studio by deleting .AndroidStudio2.3
Resetted all setting which sucks a bit, but I rather have that.
Kinda stupid question, but I've only been using this IDE for two days now. I havent found anything in google yet and I figured that once in a while you're entitled to a stupid question:
I have a project (or solution as Microsoft chose to call it) with two .cs-files. When I click on debug, it's alwys the same file that opens. How can I get VS to open the other .cs-file?
It sounds like you have multiple static Main methods in your project. If that's the case then you have to set the startup object to the object that you want to run.
Right-click on the project in the Solution Explorer and select
Properties (or select Project >> Projectname Properties from the
toolbar).
On the Application form, select the appropriate value
for Startup Object.
I am trying to add a new item (class) to my project but I when try to do this, I initially get this warning:
Then I keep getting this error saying that the class already exists (although it doesnt) whenever I try to add a new class
What should I do to fix this ?
Although the class isn't shown in Visual Studio as part of the project, the file still exists in the folder. In solution explorer, click the icon at the top to "Show All Files", then the file should appear in solution explorer, you can right click and select include in project.
I know this is an old thread just adding some info.
If this issue appears try to download the latest update for Visual Studio 2012, should be update 4.
I have created an new UIMap in my project. I was able to work with it day before this error appeared. Now, when I right click on the new UIMap in VS (Visual Studio) and Click "Edit With Coded UI Test Builder" option - above error pops up.
I tried starting VS as admin, editing the .uitest file in the project folder (bad practice even if you know what you're doing) and saving it (it allowed me to do this), but still won't let me record using the new UIMap.
Additionally the original UIMap still works. I am using different names for UIMap if anyone is wondering.
I am using VS2012.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have found the problem and A Solution for it, but not the cause. The properties of UIMaps .cs and .Designer.cs files were set to read-only. Please do let me know if anyone does find out what causes this and how to prevent this from occuring in the future.
My Solution:
Right click on the UIMaps .cs and .Designer.cs files in the project folder
Click on Properties
Untick Read-only tickbox
Voilà!
Thanks all.
