Cannot enable Hyper-V Platform - platform

I am trying to enable Hyper-V in my local machine running Windows 8 Enterprise Ed 64-bit. I checked and my hardware is SLAT-compatible, the option in BIOS is turned on. I did several cold boot but the Hyper-V platform option still remains grayed out. I hope someone can help me since all the blogs/forums that seems to address this issue did not solve the issue for me.

If you hover your mouse over the Hyper-V item in the Optional Features list, it will tell you why it's disabled.
Otherwise, you can run MSINFO32.EXE and the System Summary panel will list the features required for Hyper-V and whether or not those features have been detected on your system.
Also, you said you've cold-booted the system a few times. This might sound stupid, but shut your system down and unplug it for a few minutes to make sure it's actually off before plugging it in and turning it on again. I've never seen a system where I had to do this, but I know other people who have.

How to fix tearing in Qt Quick app with Qt 5.9.1?

My app is having tearing problems when I scroll fast horizontally. Normally I'd just enable vsync, but I don't know how to do that in Qt. The tearing is occurring on my dev PC which runs Linux with a X-server, but it will also need to work well on the target system which is either Android or Linux+EGLFS.
One google result was from the Qt4 era and said that the tearing will be gone in Qt 5. But apparently it isn't.
Many google results are about env vars for embedded linux systems, such as QT_QPA_EGLFS_FORCEVSYNC, but I'd prefer the solution to work for my dev PC as well.
One google result said that vsync being enabled/disabled depends on the renderloop in use. I don't override the renderloop, so, since I'm on linux, I think I'm using the threaded renderloop.
Here's a bugreport about nvidia binary drivers causing this.
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-45480
I too am using those drivers, so this may be it - just a driver bug. If so, at least it's unlikely to happen on my target hardware (I still haven't tested there), so that's good.

Windows 10 Black Screen and Spring Tools Suite?

I just got a new laptop that came with Windows 10 Operating System. I'm trying to setup workspaces that use Spring Tools Suite on my system. I've tried both the 4.5.2 and 4.6 versions of STS from the site.
The problem I'm encountering is that if I leave STS open for a period of time or if I try to perform certain operations such as a Run Configuration I will just see a black screen and am unable to do anything.
Anytime I see the black screen the only common thing is that I had STS open, so my assumption is that the issue may relate to STS. I could be completely wrong and this be unrelated to STS entirely but I can only reproduce the problem when STS has been open.
Two Questions, can anyone please provide any insight as my searches online aren't providing any resolution
1. Any special configuration others have run into for Windows 10 and STS?
2. If I get the black screen, how can I recover other than a hard power off, others experience with this?
Thanks for your input
I've been able to get past this issue by updating a number of drivers on my machine from Dell support page. I use a Dell Precision 5510 and was able to go to Dell support site and search for drivers for my machine.
I did the following Steps to fix my Precision 5510
Go to Dell Support Page
Click on Support
Click on Drivers and Downloads
Click on tab 'Find it myself' so you can select drivers you want
Scroll to bottom of the page and click on the line highlighted in blue that reads, Browse all drivers for Precision 5510
In list of drivers choose Chipset drivers
There may be other drivers that you need to install but adding the following fixed my issues
Be sure to restart your machine after install/update of each driver
Basic Input/Output System (BIOS)
Intel(R) Thunderbol 3 Controller Driver
Install the Firmware Update
Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver
Realtek USB Audio Driver
Patch for the USB audio/mouse issue
Combination of the above or one of the drivers fixed my issue, I'm not certain which one Spring Tools depended on but it does not crash to a black screen now after updating these drivers.

How to enable virtualization from BIOS in Gigabyte 970A DS3P, windows 10

I have tried looking everywhere but there seems to be no help at all regarding enabling virtualization in Win 10.
Moreover, Gigabyte 970A DS3P support is also not helping.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Really late to the party here but someone else might need this...
To check if your CPU has Hyper-V support (and many other things) you can run coreinfo.exe written by Mark Russinovich / Sysinternals and available via MS website. It lists support for "Hypervisor" at the top of all the things it reports.
To enable Virtualization (Hyper-V) in Windows 10 you need to turn on the feature. Check out this post https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyperv_on_windows/quick_start/walkthrough_install
On the bios side. I'm not sure about the 970a. I do have a Gigabyte board and it is in the advanced section of the bios setup. I could depend on your chipset and CPU. You need a newer chipset and a supported CPU to do virtualization

windows 7 does not boot after debian install

I installed linux debian as a 2nd system and it works fine, however when I choose Windows in loader(lilo) to boot, it stops on a windows logo.
I tried to boot in safe mode, and it stops on classpnp.sys driver.
I'm not sure whether the problem is in classpnp or in some other driver which is failed to load after it.
I also tried to boot with bootlog (ntbtlog), however it is not created (I check C:\Windows).
It seems like smth is wrong with hard drive configuration with several partitions.
I've googled a lot of similiar issues with classpnp.sys, but none of the solutions helped:
-I tried to change bios SATA coniguration from IDE to AHCI,
-restore backup configuration files (SAM, DEFAULT, SECURITY etc).
If anyone knows what else can I do with this, please help.
This belongs on super user, but you need to press F8 and select safe mode. There you can fix your problems

Will I be able to successfully run this Ubuntu (linux) setup in Virtualbox?

Have 4 DVI output. Seems I hopefully will have driver support on this. Details are sketchy online about supporting 4 outputs, but seems possible.
My question is from the Linux group and Virtualbox pros.... Will the seamless method of VirtualBox allow me to use all 3 of my monitors for multiscreen. I'd like to stick with Ubuntu and run Visual C# and other tools from my VirtualBox. Compiz effects are just too amazing to want Aero Glass.
What do you think, will my system be able to use the multiple monitors with VirtualBox and this graphics card? I've googled for hours and am still searching for answers.
Edit:
I tried virtualbox last night. Pretty slick, though I had an error in installing Visual C#NET. However, it wouldn't let you drag between multiple screens??? Is this something the host must resolve, or does the guest session need to have special settings for multiple monitors? Haven't been able to find anything in google supporting multiple monitors with virtualbox.
You should be able to configure your screens just fine. Don't know the exact details for an ATI setup, but you should be able to use Xinerama to create a single large virtual desktop, and then just run VirtualBox (though honestly, I prefer KVM, which runs on modern CPUs which provide native virtualization support) full-screen on one of those monitors. You would then be able to have three screens dedicated to Ubuntu, and the forth dedicated to Windows.
You might want to look into the non-Xinerama method of multiple displays. Each display is then treated as its own screen (so you'd have :0.0, :0.1, :0.2, and :0.3 for your X displays). You cannot move applications between the screens, but you get four independent desktops. I personally find that more useful than the idea of a single stretched desktop over multiple displays; when I used a laptop as my primary system, that's what I did, and when I get a second monitor for my computer, I'll likely return to that means of doing things. You'll have to investigate the specifics for such a setup with ATI, but the X server supports it, so it's just a matter of looking at your ATI driver's documentation to put the pieces together.
