Here's my problem: I have two workbooks, one is mine, say Projet.xlsm, and the other is not, say Query.xlsm. Query.xlsm is shared between me and a lots of people in my company so I can't modify it.
My project.xlsm aims to plot some datas extracted with Query.xlsm. My job is to make it an automated process.
How Query.xlsm work: on the first sheet there is some options to select; then we have just to click a button on the first sheet. Finally all the datas are extracted and appears in second sheet.
I've built a macro in project.xlsm wich open Query.xlsm and select the options I want.
Now I'm tryi,g to "click the button" (sheet1 in Query.xlsm) from my macro in my project.xlsm. I've tried things like this: running excel macro from another workbook
But I think I have to mention the name of my sheet somewhere.
Thanks in advance
Assuming you have the workbook open (which it sounds like you do), this worked for me even on a Private CommandButton Sub.
Workbooks("Query.xlsm").Sheets("Sheet1").CommandButton1 = True
Workbooks("Query.xlsm").Sheets("Sheet1").CommandButton1 = vbClick
You may create a public procedure in Query.xlsm Workbook in first sheet.
cmdClick refers to the name of activex command button. Below is sample code.
Public Sub cmdClick()
CommandButton1_Click
End Sub
You can call this procedure from project.xlsm using below syntax.
Workbooks("testing.xlsm").Sheets("Sheet1").cmdClick

I've been self-teaching myself VBA for a couple of years now (working on it on and off to make my work life easier). I'm usually able to find answers to my questions on this forum, but not this one.
I have a lot of 'example' code in my own personal.xlsb. For instance I have a public sub with a modified messagebox with standard caption etc I always like to make visible, referred to as PublicSub_MyMsgBox
Often, the automation I create, will be used by my colleagues as well. I would create a specific workbook with specific buttons for a specific goal. I would copy the required code into a module in this shared workbook. The workbook would therefore have a module with the sub PublicSub_MyMsgBox as well.
Another sub in this shared workbook will have a line to call PublicSub_MyMsgBox.
How can I be sure that when I test a code created in this shared workbook, it does not use the PublicSub_MyMsgBox from my own personal.xlsb, but actually only uses the code from the workbook?
(to be able to verify that I have indeed copied all relevant code into the workbook for my colleagues to use as well).
Thank you very much for your help!
Linda
No code from personal.xlsb will run even if a reference to pers. workbook exists! You can be sure that no code from personal.xlsb will be run, instead of the one inside the workbook where the call is made.
Even if you added a reference to your personal.xlsb, for identic macro names VBA will choose the one in the workbook where the code runs. To check that, please, try the next scenario:
Create in your personal workbook the next macro:
Public Sub MyMsgBox()
MsgBox "Hello from Personal workbook!"
End Sub
Then create the next macro in a standard module of your new workbook:
Sub MyMsgBox()
MsgBox "Hello from This workbook!"
End Sub
Create a simple checking Sub, of course, in the new workbook, add a reference to your personal.xlsb workbook and run it:
Sub testMyMsgBox()
MyMsgBox
End Sub
It will run the Sub in your workbook. Now, comment the Sub from your workbook and run testMyMsgBox again. It will ran the procedure from personal.xlsb...
I have a code which looks like this:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range) Me.sheets("WAM Data").Range("BY5:HW35").Interior.Color = Me.sheets("WAM
Exception").Range("BO7:HM37").Interior.Color
End Sub
But its giving error in code.
What I want to do is, change the cell formatting (color) of "BY5 to HW35" as "BO7:HM37".
If anyone could help that would be great.
You can delete me. and use only Sheets..., or use ActiveWorkbook.Sheets.. to refer to the activeworkbook, or ThisWorkbook.Sheets... to refer to the workbook the macro is run from, or Workbooks("name").Sheets... to choose whichever workbook you want from the ones you have open.
However, your macro will just run on first click of a mouse, regardless where that happens on your spreadsheet, with no conditions add to it... is that what you want to do with your code?
I'm a new VBA user. I have a workbook with multiple worksheets. Each one has it own userform for data entry. The userform shows when I click on the sheet. After I'm done entering data, the worksheet is populated and the userform closes (unload). All this works well. However, after the initial data entry is complete, the goal is to use the data on the worksheets for other applications and the userform is no longer needed. What is the code or the terminology to say the userform should not reappear again when the worksheet is clicked on? Currently, I red X out of the userform. If I click the command button to close, it repopulates and I lose all my data.
Thanks!
As A.S.H commented; you could store the information in a number of ways. An easy example is declaring a variable outside of the Macro:
Public FormOpened as boolean
And then set FormOpened as true once the form has been shown. Then you could add a check to the start of the mouse-click macro:
If FormOpened = True then Exit sub
I am looking for the best way to "link" two worksheets together. I have a main worksheet where information and data is added and then I would like to have two basic worksheets that draws columns from main spreadsheet. Whenever changes are made to the main sheet, they will also occur in the other two sheets. I was thinking of trying to activate a macro which automates hitting ctrl or shift and the two tabs like the below
sheets (Array("Main", "Summary")).select
But this failed to work as well. Its too much information for vlookups or anything like that so if anyone knows a way to have changes that occur in one sheet effect multiple other ones it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!
You have the worksheet.Change event for that. Something simple like the following:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
ThisWorkbook.Sheets("sheet2").Cells(Target.Row, Target.Column).Value = Target
End Sub
Will copy the value on every cell change from one sheet to another (the code goes in the sheet's private module).
I need to save several Excel sheets to separate files.
The sheets are protected and locked, however I want to make spellcheck available.
This is possible with VBA using a small routine to unlock>spellcheck>relock
Sub SpellCheck()
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
Cells.CheckSpelling CustomDictionary:="CUSTOM.DIC", IgnoreUppercase:=False, AlwaysSuggest:=True, SpellLang:=1033
ActiveSheet.Protect
End Sub()
Now I placed command button on the sheets I want to export and assigned my spell check macro.
I save the files with vba as XLSM
Sheets("exportsheet").SaveAs Filename:="mysheet.xlsm", FileFormat:=52
If I click on the button in the newly saved file, the macro is linked to the original source excel which will open. The assigned macro link looks something like this: original_excel.xlsm!spellCheck()
How can I export a sheet including the VBA code which is assigned to a command button in a way that the macro is not assigned to the original workbook.
Any thoughts on that?
If you want the worksheet to be self contained after you export it from the workbook, make it self contained to start with.
Place all routines that are accessed from the sheet into that sheet's code module (instead of into a shared standard code module).
This way the sheet has no dependencies and will be self contained once exported to a new workbook.
