I recently installed Visual Studio 2012, and I've been banging my head against my desk looking for missing options.
I use the Recent Projects and Solutions menu option (under the File menu) a lot in Visual Studio 2010, but don't have anything like that in Visual Studio 2012. However, my boss does, so I know there's something wrong with my install or an option I've missed.
I've casually looked through registry settings for anything like "Project" that exists in my 2010 settings but does not exist in my 2012 settings, and came up empty handed. Does anyone know how to fix this?
It looks like some part of the upgrade process just removed this menu option for me. Following nithins link to this question, I followed the instructions the author created to re-create the Recent Projects and Solutions menu item.
For posterity, those steps were (performed in Visual Studio 2012):
Under the Tools menu, click Customize...
Click the Commands tab.
Change the Menu bar selected option in the drop-down list to File.
Click Add New Menu.
Click Modify Selection, rename to Recent Projects and Solutions.
Under the Menu bar drop-down list, select File | Recent Projects and Solutions.
Click Add Command...
(The Add Command menu should appear here.)
Under Categories on the left-hand side, click File.
When the Commands list (on the right-hand side) refreshes, click Recent Project list, and click OK.
Click Close.
Happy project switching!
I had the exact same problem, but I had the sense that other menu items were missing as well.
What I did was go into Tools => Import & Export Settings, choose Reset all settings, and then select the same profile as when I installed Visual Studio. (General Development Settings.) That fixed the issue.

I am unable to see the folders that are physically existing, this is the case.
But in actual fact I have other folders as welll

Above your the file directory view in Android Studio is a drop down which currently is most likely set to Android. Change it to Project and you should be able to see all your files.
I tried the all the approaches mentioned above but can't fix rather than fix it by a hardcore approach -
Step 1. Close your Android studio.
Step 2. Delete .gradle and .idea folder from your project directory.
Step 3. Open your project and you will see the files again.
go to View menu then click tool window then after click on project
view->toolwindow->project
it worked for me
for me doing the following works:
from menu go to: View--->tool windows ---> Project
then click the little gears icon (settings) you will see an option to change the empty middle packages. it looks like this:
disable "Hide Empty Middle Packages" under the Project View settings dropdown and then it should make everything show up.
If anyone ever does what I did maybe this will help:
Android Studio does not like it when module names begin with a number. I was learning from some tutorials and named the first module "1-name" and the next one "2-name". Setup was fine and it ran, but only the "Gradle" Scripts entry would show in the navigation window in "Android" mode.
Currently I have to open Team Explorer and click on Source Control Explorer as below snapshot.
I do this very often and need a hotkey for that.
What is it then?
Try with below step:
Go to Options of Tools menu
Select the Keyboard from Environment
Select View.TfsSourceControlExplorer from Show commands containing:. You can type View.TFS in the textbox to filter the list.
Enter your hotkey in Press shorcut keys => click on Assign

According to a comment that I found in the site that #Adarsh mentioned, Alt+V,E,S will open the Source Control Explorer. It's a couple extra keystrokes but it works for me!
You can use Ctrl+0,P to open the Pending Changes Window.

Update:
In Visual Studio 2013 Ctrl+0,P doesn't seem to work to open Pending Changes, but you can use Alt-V,E,H or configure a custom shortcut in the menu Tools/Options/Environment/Keyboard.
Just wanted to share another alternative I learned. One could set an alias in VS Command Window and launch it from there.
alias sce View.TfsSourceControlExplorer
note- 'sce' is an alias of your choice. I generally abbreviate. Obvious but having a pattern will be helpful if you have many of these.
Steps:
Open command window (ctrl+alt+A)
Set the alias (the statement shown
above)
Next time you need to launch the Source Control Explorer,
switch/launch command window and type your alias name. 'sce' in the
above example.
Alt+V,E,S works for me even in VS 2015

i just installed visual studio 2010 and it is not opening any projects .I can make projects but i can not add any file in it and also it is not opening recent projects.

OK, sounds like the installaion got munged up.
first obvious questions: do you have any code that has actually been saved?
If "yes," copy that code to an alternate location, and use the simplest solution: use the Windows Control Panel to deinstall the MSVC instance and reinstall. If no code saved, just de-install and reinstall.
That's the obvious answer. You may also check the location for the project files, and the settings Visual Studios uses.
from the toolbar, click "tools".
From the drop-down list select "options"
Within the displayed list, scroll down to "projects and solutions"
expand that list (click on the little "+" box)
3 locations will be displayed.
Make sure you have write permission to all three locations
all the check boxes should be selected. Especially the one marked "save new projects when created"

In Visual Studio 2012, you can create customized toolbars and edit their contents (usually button shortcuts to some IDE commands).
I would like to add the SolutionExplorer.SyncWithActiveDocument command to one of my toolbars, but cannot find it in the list of commands available for addition to the toolbar. In which category is it located? Or is it a command not supported by the toolbar system?
I don't think you can use SyncWithActiveDocument as a command - it is a manual sync that is only active when turning off "Track Active Item in Solution Explorer" in Project and Solutions -> General.
Looking at it this way, is like trying to add auto-sync to a toolbar.
Back when I had ReSharper 5 my files would have all kinds of syntax highlighting and a bar next to the scrollbar to the right. It was wonderful because it would highlight redundant imports and possible code smells, as well mark things in the bar next to the scroll bar.
With ReSharper 6 I don't have any of that. I have to actually have cursor on what I want to change and wait for the pencil or light bulb to show up. Is this how ReSharper 6 is by default or do I have to reinstall it?
First make sure ReSharper is acutally activated. If it is, there should be a ReSharper top level menu entry in Visual Studio at the top.
If it is, make sure "Enable Code Analysis" is turned on in the ReSharper settings.
If it is not, enable ReSharper in the Visual Studio settings (Tools->Options). There should be an extra entry "ReSharper" in the list on the left side. Click the "Resume" button.
If you don't have such an entry in your Visual Studio settings, ReSharper is either not or not correctly installed.
Maybe the settings were not taken from the version 5 folder to the version 6 one. Try the following:

In there you'll find a UserSettings.xml file open it for edit.
Look for the "SeverityTable" node. Select it and copy it.
Paste it on the same file that you'll find on the "c:\Users*your user*\AppData\Roaming\JetBrains\Resharper\v6.0\vsxx.x" folder. I recommend making a backup of the file before doing that.
Reopen visual studio. Resharper should be indicating all the recommendations and smells as it did before you updated it.
