how to install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall - linux

just completed installing oracle linux 6 update 2 on my virtual box and i have been trying to install oracle 11gr2 on the same operating system i am following the installation guide but i have encountered some problems when i run this command on my terminal
yum install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall
i am getting an error
no package oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall available
error nothing to do
is there any way i am doing this wrongly??how can i install the oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall

It seem you don't have oracle repository configured, do following:
As an authorized user (for example, root), retrieve the file that configures repository locations:
$sudo cd /etc/yum.repos.d
$sudo wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo
Using a text editor, modify the file, changing the field enabled=0 to enabled=1 to reflect repositories that correspond to the machine's operating system release.
Next, install the oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall RPM using the yum install command.
The output in Listing 1 shows how the installation checks dependencies and then downloads and installs the required packages.
$sudo yum install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall

mv /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-ol6.repo /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle.repo

I've given :
yum install oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall.x86_64
and works perfectly

zypper: command not found in SUSE linux

I was not aware that zypper is like yum for SUSE. I deleted that file from bin, now I am not able to install any application through it. I throws an error that
sudo: zypper: command not found
How do I install zypper back and make it work like as normal?
Depending on your system and architecture, find Zypper package file (RPM) in online repository (i.e. http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/13.2/repo/oss/suse/i586/ ), download it (wget) and install it (rpm -i) :
wget http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/13.2/repo/oss/suse/i586/zypper-1.11.14-2.1.i586.rpm
sudo rpm -ivh zypper-1.11.14-2.1.i586.rpm

'gitk' installation is not working on Linux

I have successfully Git installed and running.
git --version
git version 2.6.1
I want to add gitk now. I entered the following command to install the gitk package, but it says no package available.
sudo yum install git-gui gitk
Returns
Loaded plugins: security
Setting up Install Process
No package git-gui available.
No package gitk available.
Nothing to do
After that, when I type gitk on the command line, it throws the following error.
Application initialization failed: Can't find a usable tk.tcl in the following directories:
/usr/lib/tcl8.4/tk8.4 /usr/lib/tk8.4 /local/p4clients/pkgbuild-9867w/workspace/build/TclTk/TclTk-8.4.199.32504/RHEL5_64/DEV.STD.PTHREAD/build/private/tcl/install/lib/tk8.4 /lib/tk8.4 /usr/library /library /tk8.4.12/library
This probably means that tk wasn't installed properly.

Note: I tried apt-get, but it’s not working in the system. In a post I found that YUM is the correct one for my system.
Amazon Linux: apt-get: command not found
Since gitk is distributed with git, I would focus on installing the right version of Tcl/Tk.
The git-gui package (even though it is not directly applicable to your Linux distribution) would use a tk8.6 at least. It looks like your version of tk is a bit old.
yum install tk
I'm not sure which flavour you are trying to install gitk on. But the below is the method which I have used to install gitk on RHEL 7.
Get the endpoint release rpm from https://packages.endpoint.com/ as below
cd /tmp
wget https://packages.endpoint.com/rhel/7/os/x86_64/endpoint-repo-1.7-1.x86_64.rpm
yum localinstall endpoint-repo-1.7-1.x86_64.rpm
yum install git-gui gitk
Change the current directory to one of your projects where the .git directory is there and type gitk and Enter:
Note that the URL for the yum repository mentioned has moved to End Point Software Package Repositories

How to resolve dependencies while installing application on linux (CentOS 7.1)

When I tried install deluge on my CentOS 7.1 I was facing dependecy problems due to some el6 which are not meant for CentOS 7.1. So, I found this page:
https://gist.github.com/dasgoll/111f6f3364e2ab97bc08
His instructions:
Centos 7.1
yum -y install wget wget hxxp://li.nux.ro/download/nux/dextop/el7/x86_64/nux-dextop-release-0-5.el7.nux.noarch.rpm
rpm -ivh nux-dextop-release-0-5.el7.nux.noarch.rpm
yum -y install deluge-web
systemctl start deluge-web
systemctl stop firewalld
browse http://192.168.3.101:8112
check it
yum install deluge-console
And my question is: Why he installed "nux-dextop-release-0-5.el7.nux.noarch.rpm" from li.nux.ro (if I'm not wrong it's a repository, correct me if I'm)? Because I had this dependency problem earlier when I tried installing deluge. But when I used his instructions it resolved all the dependencies automatically for me. So does this rpm file he installed on the first place was for resolving dependencies? If not then how can one work around with dependencies while installing a piece of software/application. Than You in advance.
P.S. I asked the same question in comments there too. But I'm uncertain of receiving reply there (no offence for the guy/girl - dasgoll).
Third party package repos will often use a *-release package to contain both a yum repo definition and a rpm signing public key so that end users can install packages directly from the repo using yum instead of having to find and then download them one by one.

xz compression install on centos

Any installation or update using yum command I ended up error: Error: xz compression not available. On website I read that Python library is missing. When you try to install a library (sudo yum update pyliblzma) again failed with error. Do not know how? Thanks.
This problem comes if you installed a wrong epel release on your machine. If so, then you need to remove the epel release by
yum remove epel-release
Sometimes that is not enough, you need to remove the cache as well by:
rm -rf /var/cache/yum/x86_64/6/epel
Then you can install the epel-release again
yum -y install epel-release
You need install the EPEL repository by downloading the appropriate RPM package for your system and installing it. For example, for CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x:
wget http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-6*.rpm
If you get a File Not Found error message when trying to download the package, the version number might have changed. You can access the latest version of the RPM installer from the Fedora EPEL wiki page. The wiki page also includes additional instructions for Red Hat Network subscribers who are installing the EPEL repository.
Finally, install the Python library:
yum install pyliblzma
This works perfecly in my CentOS 6.x.
I've found a solution on this page of stackexchange, working in CentOS 6.X:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/314756
sudo rpm -e epel-release-7-5.noarch
wget http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
sudo rpm -ivh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
sudo yum clean all
sudo rpmdb -v --rebuilddb
sudo yum -y install libselinux-python
I was also suffering from this issue..
If you are installing packages but it is already available on your system.
Remove existing packages and then try to install new.
It will work properly...
I was able to solve this problem by installing pyliblzma using rpm instead of yum as yum is not working.
Find pyliblzma rpm package according to your architecture and install it using the command.
rpm -Uvh pyliblzma-version-release.architecture.rpm
I used the following command to install pyliblzma for my 64 bit Redhat 6.8 machine. Please check URL in the command and make changes accordingly.
rpm -Uvh http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/pyliblzma-0.5.3-3.el6.x86_64.rpm
In my case the issue was caused by missing modules in python's site-packages directory. Here's what I did:
$ rpm -Va
to get a list of all files belonging to all rpms that do not verify. I got a bunch of messages about missing modules:
missing /usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/...
Luckily, I had an identical CentOS version elsewhere with all these packages present, so I just copied them over and ran
$ rpmdb -v --rebuilddb
to rebuild rpm database.

Unable to yum install anything on RHEL

I am on a new RHEL system.
I seem to be unable to be able to install anything package via yum install.
yum install nmap
The current repos in
ls /etc/yum.repos.d/
google-chrome.repo redhat.repo rhel-source.repo
What could be going wrong ?
OUTPUT OF YUM INSTALL:
$ sudo yum install nmap
[sudo] password for user:
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, security, subscription-manager
Updating certificate-based repositories.
Setting up Install Process
No package nmap available.
Error: Nothing to do
Red Hat doesn't use the /etc/yum.repos.d directory for official packages so the answer won't be in there. It will use the subscription plugin placed in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d.
You mentioned that the RHEL host is new. You will need to make sure your subscription is valid or yum will fail silently.
You can use the subscription-manager list command to gain info regarding subscriptions.
Centos has done it for you.
Create a repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d as
vi /etc/yum.repos.d/myrepo.repo
Then paste this in this file:
[centos]
name=CentOS-7
baseurl=http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/centos/7/os/x86_64/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/centos/7/os/x86_64/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7
Saving it with wq! now run
yum repolist
Check if you can install any package (say nmap)
yum install nmap -y
Enjoy!!!
Try "searching" for the correct package name in the reps by using yum list
yum list nmap
I guess the correct package name and install command is:
yum install nmap.x86_64
You can also do a "yum search somename"
In my case, I was trying to install OpenJDK using yum; sudo yum install -y java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel but received an error message stating that a dependency was unavailable:
---> Package java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless.x86_64 1:1.8.0.201.b09-1.el6_10 will be installed

**********************************************************************
yum can be configured to try to resolve such errors by temporarily enabling
disabled repos and searching for missing dependencies.
To enable this functionality please set 'notify_only=0' in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/search-disabled-repos.conf
**********************************************************************
I resolved this by following the suggestion please set 'notify_only=0' in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/search-disabled-repos.conf and then ran the yum command again. This time yum loaded a bunch of [previously disabled] repos and searched through them, finally reporting success and this message:
*******************************************************************
Dependency resolving was successful thanks to enabling these repositories:
rhel-6-server-optional-rpms
*******************************************************************
So there was no ignored *-devel repo, but still doing this worked. For clearance, the explicitly ignored repos are: ignored_repos=*debug-rpms *source-rpms *beta-rpms
..so that worked, but I'm still no wiser on the mechanics of this..
If you have OS image in your lab or any location you can try this for some RPMS
vim /etc/yum.repos.d/rhel.repo
[rhel]
name=rhel
baseurl=http://172.25.5.25/osimages/rhel7.2_64bit
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
Then do yum clean all
baseurl is the location where your OS image is available. No subscription is needed, it is reusing your OS image
Try installing using:
yum install nmap-frontend
It worked for me on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.7 (Maipo)
You can use the following line to test:
nmap 25 gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com
