I am creating a windows 8 app in c# and xaml.
How can i print a pdf file on my system from this app without launching the pdf reader of windows.
If a commercial library is an option, you could try Amyuni PDF Creator for WinRT.
From the documentation, the code for printing a PDF file in C# using this library would look like this:

It is possible to achieve this without any third party library if you want to print it with a device.
This isn't working to create or write a ".pdf"[Pdf File). To make this happen without another library you could maybe try to write images directly into a pdf, but i can only reference here the Pdf Documentation.
First of all you have to render your pdf. You can do this with Windows.Data.Pdf.
You can take a look at an example here. The libary will handle the Pdf and you get some BitmapImages rendered.
This library can read, but not write ".pdf"
Now you have to print your Images(rendered pdf pages). For this you take the Windows.Graphics.Printing.PrintManager.
I would not recommend the msdn example in this case.
So have a first look at Windows Store Apps and XAML Based Printing.
And you will find another printing example with MVVM here: Printing from MVVM XAML Windows 8 Store apps.
If you just follow the examples you will achieve to print a pdf on paper some trouble.

Windows 8 doesn't have an API to do this, so you'll have to acquire one elsewhere - something that's capable of properly rendering a PDF for you, and that's going to mean a full-blown PDF API with all the bells and whistles (I'm not aware of any of these for Windows 8 that only supports printing).
If only PDF Sharp had a WinRT version, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat... unfortunately it doesn't (yet). Only ones I know of that have an API for WinRT are Foxit and Siberix Report Writer.

I've been searching for several days now a way to embed a data file, which is in text format, inside an app I'm trying to build in Adobe Flash for Adobe Air (for Android for now). The text file has a lot of data I want to use in my app, so I want to embed it inside the app, so when the app launches I can use it.
I've been reading about how to read and write text file in Flash and Adobe Air, but couldn't find a way to add this file to be part of my app. The Adobe Flash Library that is used for saving various assert (File > Import > Import to Library), doesn't support text file (only image, sound, video, and other graphic formats). Is there an other way to add a different (i.e. Text) file to the app?
As a last resort, and to help me proceed with the implementation, I tried manually copying the file to the Android "Documents" folder, and reading it from the app using this:

This worked on the PC when testing, but on Android it couldn't find my text file. I placed it in "My Files > Internal storage > Documents" (on Samsung phone). Is there a different "Documents" folder I should use to be found by documentsDirectory.resolvePath() function...
Anyway, as said, this was last resort solution, and much less preferred, because I don't want the users of my app to need to copy internal data files for the app to work, it should be part of the APK... So embedding the text file somehow inside the app is a much better solution, but I couldn't find a way to do that.

I found another answer few hours ago, and will share it now, in case someone else encounters this problem.
You could embed a file from the "Publish Settings" dialog, then going into "AIR for Android Setting" (small wrench icon). On the "AIR for Android Setting" under "General" tab, at the bottom there is "Include files". You can click the [+] icon and add any file you want.
From the code you can access this file using standard file read method, using URLLoader & URLRequest functions and Event.COMPLETE to get the data when the file finishes loading.

I have a hard time and I'm not finding a viable solution. It is a project in JSF with the web server.

This cannot be done from the server. The only option you have that I know (knew) of to actually directly print on the client is using a signed applet
I need to embed PDF files in an xpage application. We are using IE11 x64 and this cannot be changed. Eventually, I'll also need to embed MS Office files (Word, Excel, Power Point).
I have looked at a lot of pages and couldn't get a working solution for this... I have some code that works if I force IE11 in IE10 mode, but then Dojo starts acting weird (cannot close dialog boxes, ...).
The code I have right now in my computed field looks like this:

Short answer: don't bother.
Long answer: While you might get it to work for PDF in IE11, your boss won't be happy, because it will not show on her iPad, so you need to have a plan B.... and there is another gotcha down the road (read below). This is what I would do:
Use Apache PDFBbox to extract text from the PDF and show that in the XPage.
Add a link to the page to open the whole PDF
Do the same thing for office documents using Apache POI eventually using OpenNTF POI4XPages
The download link should make use of WebDAV for Domino to allow round-trip editing
Why all this fuzz:
Your users will use mobile at some point of time and NO mobile browser does support embedding (nor do any browsers on a Mac)
Even if you successfully get embedding working, users will start to edit the embedded document and get really really upset since you don't save back the changes
On a side note: asking IBM to support a technology that is vendor proprietary working in one browser (that has been EOL for future updates - see project Spartan) - ain't going to happen.
I got this working nicely in IE11 for PDF files with this very simple line:

I'll go along with Stephen's answer: I won't bothe rtrying to mak ethis work with Office files. It will give our "Notes is bad" users some munitions to move to SharePoint, but we do have other advantages!
I tried using Bumpbox, and pdf.js and while I could get them working, iframes seemed to work best for me with using normal Domino attachment urls in xpages
I am not sure if this solution is right or not, but it works well for an app I have that only has PDFs. It does work on mobile too, at least on iOS.

Probably the best approach is to use a pure HTML5/JavaScript renderer
for PDF documents without any third-party plugins (e.g. PDF.js)

In my opinion, it's the best way to use a commercial product (e.g. crocodoc) for other documents like MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
I have been working with Vaadin charts during this week and I found a problem that I cannot solve. I need to send several charts to a PDF generation (using iTextpdf) and I could do it using SVGGenerator. The main problem is I cannot use this solution because the final laptop doesn't allow any installation, and Phantomjs is required for SVG Generator (no add-on can be installed neither). I tried to find a different solution to convert the chart content into file or buffer that I can manage, but I think I have been reading so much posts and I am not able to distinguish the solution.
So, I will try to clarify basic questions first:
a) Is it possible to manage SVG Generator without any installation in the laptop?
b) If not, is there a different way to convert a chart into an object which class could be managed to insert it into a PDF?
I can assure you I tried to read all documentation in this forum and official Vaadin forum related to this topic but I couldn't find any solution. I don't want to seem lazy, I only want to avoid spending more time and clarify the maining pre-conditions to solve this issue.

You can take a screenshot of your chart and append it to pdf:

You will not be able to render a Vaadin Chart without a web browser engine of some kind. That's what PhantomJS provides. If you have a full-blown web browser at your disposal, though, you can grab the SVG markup manually from there; it's just a bit more difficult to automate. This works in Chrome:
Open your Charts app in the browser
Open the JavaScript console (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + J)
Type something like this: copy(document.getElementsByTagName('svg')[0].outerHTML)
Paste the contents of your clipboard to a new text file and save it as an SVG.
You don't need to install phantomjs, just bundle its binary along with your web application (Reference). I did the same thing with my Amazon AWS deployment and it works just fine.
I have a Seam 2.2 app running under JBoss5.1. In this application I have successfully developed some Graphics using Java Open Flash Chart, which is a Java API for Open Flash Chart.
Now I would like to add a X and Y legend like this one.
Well I have a graphic which is rendering properly and than I try to set X Label using:

chart.setXLegend(new Text("Legenda X"));
But than instead of showing the legend it corrupts something which causes the graphic to renders completely blank.
This is the generated JSon when the graphics renders correctly.

I took a deeply look at it and turns out that whenever I try to add the x legend with the code fragment showed above the JSon is actually NOT generated by JOFC.
I could not find much useful documentation on JOFC on the web and the API itself is not very well documented, so I am completely lost on trying to add this simple x label, which should be the easiest part :( . Any Ideas on that.
An update:
Now I just have downloaded JOFC source code and will take a look at this.
It looks like there's an open issue on the JOFC page: http://code.google.com/p/jofc2/issues/detail?id=29
It suggests a workaround of calling the function like:

I would try with Open Flash Grapix, it is easier to use, and just sets parameters on FlashVars.
