using hashmap to retrieve datatable column value - jsf

I have a dataTable displaying data of type Action. I have a column named "Status" which will be set by the user. After setting this column I want to retrieve the value from a HashMap with Action class as key and the status as value.
How could I do it directly in the dataTable status column? I attempted the following:
<p:dataTable var="currentExecutedTestAction" value="#{projectCampaignManagementMB.currentExecutedTestActionList}">
<p:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Status" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{projectCampaignManagementMB.actionMap(currentExecutedTestAction,statusValue)}" />
</p:column>
</p:dataTable>

Just use the action as a key (I suppose that the action is some String/Integer etc that can be used as a key).
<h:outputText value="#{projectCampaignManagementMB.actionMap[action]}"/>
JSF will use the action as a key to get the value, and than after you will submit some new value it will use action again to set the new value.

Column header not visible when column is conditionally rendered

I have a h:dataTable. I would like to render a row conditionally as follows:
<h:dataTable value="#{myController.entities}" var="entity">
<h:column rendered="#{entity.selected}">
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="header" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{entity.name}" />
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
In my controller there is variable List <Entity> entities which has getters and setters.
Entity class contains two variables : boolean selected and String name with its getters and setters.
When #{entity.selected} is false, then the row is hidden. When #{entity.selected} is true, then the row is shown, but without header. When I do not use the rendered attribute on the column my header becomes visible.
This question is similar to p:column header facet is not shown when rendered attribute is used on p:column
But none of the solution given works for me and Iam not using primefaces.
Can somebody help me with this? Iam new to JSF and the mistake might be something silly and fix fairly easy, but please help me figure it out. Thanks.
Iam posting the outputs that I get when I tried the above code.
**Header**
name 0
name 1
name 2
name 3
name 4
This output shows the datatable using simply <h:column> without trying to render it conditionally. The header can be seen.
Now when I use conditional rendering:
name 1
name 3
In this output Iam trying to use conditional rendering <h:column rendered="#{entity.selected}">. As you can see that for "name 0", "name 3" and "name 5" the #{entity.selected} is false and hence its not rendering.
This is exactly what I need but only if the header shows up.
I want to render my row invisible where the #{entity.selected} value is false. Also show the column header. Can this be possible?
You need to put the rendered condition on the cell, not on the column.
<h:dataTable value="#{myController.entities}" var="entity">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="header" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{entity.name}" rendered="#{entity.selected}" />
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
Or, if you've multiple components or plain text representing cell content, wrap it in a <h:panelGroup> or <ui:fragment>.
<h:dataTable value="#{myController.entities}" var="entity">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
header
</f:facet>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{entity.selected}">
Blah blah #{entity.name} blah blah
</h:panelGroup>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
(note: you don't necessarily need h:outputText over all place, see also Is it suggested to use h:outputText for everything?)
Apply if necessary the following CSS on the table to hide empty cells in case you've applied e.g. borders or bgcolors on table cells:
table {
empty-cells: hide;
}
A completely different alternative is to provide a new model which contains only the desired entities:
<h:dataTable value="#{myController.selectedEntities}" var="entity">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
header
</f:facet>
#{entity.name}
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
Instead of
...
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="header" />
</f:facet>
...
try simply
...
<f:facet name="header">Header</f:facet>
...

Primefaces dataTable multiple selection same object

I'm having a problem with the dataTable multiple selection with checkbox (like the second one: http://primefaces.org/showcase/ui/datatableRowSelectionRadioCheckbox.jsf).
When I try to execute a method in my backingBean, the selected items always comes with the right size, but, with the same object.
Example: I select in my dataTable three Messages: Message 1, Message 2 and Message 3. When I execute my method in the JSF page my selected items comes like this:
Messages[0] = Message 1
Messages[1] = Message 1
Messages[2] = Message 1
Here is my JSF Page:
<p:dataTable id="mensagensLidas" var="msg" value="#{mensagensBean.msgGrupoModel}"
paginator="true" rows="10" selection="#{mensagensBean.selectedMsgsGrupo}">
<p:column selectionMode="multiple" style="width:2%"/>
<p:column headerText="Titulo:" style="width:49%">
#{msg.titulo}
</p:column>
<f:facet name="footer">
<p:commandButton id="multiViewButton" value="#{msgs.delete}" icon="ui-icon-trash" actionListener="#{mensagensBean.excluirMsgsGrupo}" update=":tabMain" ajax="true"/>
</f:facet>
</p:dataTable>
Your above code is working fine for me except that I'm using a rowKey.
Try using rowKey attribute in p:dataTable
<p:dataTable id="mensagensLidas" var="msg" value="#{mensagensBean.msgGrupoModel}"
paginator="true" rows="10" selection="#{mensagensBean.selectedMsgsGrupo}"
rowKey="#{msg.titulo}">
....
</p:dataTable>
Using rowKey is must and best practice when you have selection in Datables, it helps to map the selected <tr> to the POJOs that you're filling up with.
Usually its even better if your rowKey is unique propety, you can even put an integer variable in your #{msg} POJO as best practice.
I discovered the problem. My DataModel was with the getRowData returning always the same object. I was doing a wrong comparison. Thank you all!

How can I make p:cellEditor conditional in PrimeFaces?

Here is my code that doesn't work:
...
<p:column sortBy="#{invoice.customerId}" id="customerId">
<f:facet name="header"><h:outputText value="Customer ID"/></f:facet>
<f:facet name="output" rendered="#{!editUIBean.isEditable('customerId')}">
<h:outputText value="#{invoice.customerId}"/>
</f:facet>
<p:cellEditor rendered="#{editUIBean.isEditable('customerId')}">
<f:facet name="output">
<h:outputText value="#{invoice.customerId}"/>
</f:facet>
<f:facet name="input">
<h:inputText value="#{invoice.customerId}"/>
</f:facet>
</p:cellEditor>
</p:column>
...
So what I am trying to do: The user picks an option, that option determines which records are editable and only displays the records that are editable for that option. For any given option, only certain columns within those records are editable. The isEditable(columnName) method returns true if for given option the column is editable or false if it is not editable. What I want to do is, when the user clicks edit for the record, the editable fields display input fields and then non-editable fields display their values. With the code above, when the column isn't editable, the value doesn't display, before and after clicking edit. When the field is editable, the value displays, and when you click edit, the value is replaced with an input field containing the value. So my example works except that the value is completely hidden when the field is not editable. I want the non-editable values to be displayed when not editing and when editing, I just don't want them to be editable during edit.
This,
<p:column>
<f:facet name="output" rendered="#{!editUIBean.isEditable('customerId')}">
<h:outputText value="#{invoice.customerId}" />
</f:facet>
...
</p:column>
is not right. The <p:column> doesn't support a <f:facet name="output">. Just put the rendered condition on the <h:outputText> itself.
<p:column>
<h:outputText value="#{invoice.customerId}" rendered="#{!editUIBean.isEditable('customerId')}" />
...
</p:column>

Generate unique id for h:dataTable in the loop

I am using JSF 2.0. When I am trying to use a variable in the 'id' attribute of the h:dataTable its not taking that variable value.
I have h:dataTable inside ui:repeat with id values as index of ui:repeat as mentioned below.
<ui:repeat var="planMap" value="#{planAccountMap.entrySet().toArray()}" varStatus="planMapStatus">
<h:dataTable id="planTable#{planMapStatus.index}" value="#{planMap.value}" var="accountList">
Does any one know whether we can have dynamic id generated for h:dataTable in loop?
I have a Java script which is making use of table id, but as I am not able to have the unique id for each table in the loop, its breaking.
Any component inside of a repeatable component will always have a dynamic client id. You cannot do this.
Perhaps instead you can assign a unique style class to the dataTable component and use a jQuery selector to return an array of all the dataTable objects in the ui:repeat.
jQuery('.SomeClass');
I do some thing very similar to you. i have a UI:repeat inside a datatable column. tbh, if you check in fire bug, your datatable id would be unique as you put it inside a ui:repaet.
planMap:0:yourdatatableID
This problem can be solve by using datatable inside datatable. Second datatable is kept inside the column of the first datatable as below.
<h:dataTable id="outerTable" value="#{planAccountMap.entrySet().toArray()}" var="planMap" width="100%">
<h:column>
<h:dataTable id="planTable" value="#{planMap.value}" var="accountList"
headerClass="tablehead"
rowClasses="'',altrowcoloropt1"
first="0">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Date" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{accountList.date}"/>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header" >
<h:outputText value="Account Name" />
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{accountList.accountName}"/>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
By this you would get unique id as outerTable:0:planTable, outerTable:1:planTable.This even extend the unique id to each element in datatable as outerTable:1:planTable:1:columnid , outerTable:0:planTable:0:columnid

Value of <h:selectBooleanCheckbox> inside <p:dataTable> remains false on submit

I have a primefaces datatable and inside the primefaces datatable, I have a column, which contains the . The issue is,I have set the default value for the as false. When I click/check the , its still retrieving the value as false. I tried it multiple times but not sure why its returning false. Please find the sample code below.
<p:dataTable id="review-table" var="item" value="#{demandBean.filterVOList}">
<p:column id="SelectallID" style="text-align: left; width:40px;" rendered="#{demandBean.screeRenderVo.selectAllRenderer}">
<f:facet name="header" >
<h:outputText id="selectId" value="#{demandBean.dmdScreenLabelVO.selectAll}" />
<div></div>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="checkbox1" value="Select All" onclick="checkAll(this)"/>
</f:facet>
<h:selectBooleanCheckbox id="checkbox2" value="#{item.selected}"/>
</p:column>
Im getting the value as false, when I check the and click on the save button. I have written an Action listerner, below is the code corresponding to the actionListener
public void saveData(ActionEvent event)
{
System.out.println("Entering the Save :");
selected = isSelected();
System.out.println("value of Selected"+selected);
}
I have tried debugging the code as well, but not sure why the value for is getting displayed as false. Please Assist. Thanks in Advance
You seem to be binding the value of all checkboxes in the column to the one and same bean property. This way the value will ultimately end up to be the one of the last row in the column.
This is not how it's supposed to be used.
You basically need to bind the value of the checkbox to the property of the currently iterated row object (the one behind the var attribute of the datatable).
<p:dataTable value="#{bean.items}" var="item">
<p:column>
<p:selectBooleanCheckbox value="#{item.selected}" />
Alternatively, you could use the <p:column selectionMode="multiple" /> to use builtin multiple selection support of the PrimeFaces datatable (see also the showcase example).
<p:dataTable value="#{bean.items}" var="item" rowKey="#{item.id}" selection="#{bean.selectedItems}">
<p:column selectionMode="multiple" />
