chrome-extension:load data in background page - google-chrome-extension

I‘m developing chrome extension.
user log in in options.html,and then application will load much data from web database.
but once user close options.html, the loading process will stop immediately.
I want to do the loading work in background page, but I don't how to program.

You can do you loading in background page.
function load_data() {
// do something
}
and then call it in your option page.
var app = chrome.extension.getBackgroundPage();
app.load_data();
then your loading process will keep running in the background.

How to debug chrome extension with DevTools or other debugger?

Is there any way to debug chrome extension using debugger ( break points and step in/out)
beside console.log ?
Chrome 70.x debugging of chrome background scripts is broken, especially when you dynamically load them and they are not in the manifest. Have a ticket open to get it fixed; however they have not been very helpful; however found a work around...
Put a console.log("yourvariablenamehere") in your background.js script.
Hit F12 to open the dev tools, anchored to the bottom of the web page.
Load the background script via a button in your popup.html. Something like this from a button event...
var guid = CreateGuid();
chrome.tabs.executeScript(null, { file: "script/jquery-3.3.1.js" }, function () {
$.get("script/scrollPage.js?ver=" + guid, function (sScriptBody, textStatus, jsXHR) {
chrome.tabs.executeScript(null, { code: sScriptBody });
}, "text");
});
In the dev tools console you should see your logged variable. On the same line as the logged message is a VM with a number tacked onto it, a virtual script page. Select that VM page and then you get to the background script! Now put a breakpoint in the virtual script page, click the same button in your popup.html and it gets hit. And when you reload the popup and execute the background script that breakpoint is hit!
Hope this helps.
If you want to inspecting content scripts, a great method I found is using Console by selecting your extension in javascript context:
By selecting the extension you will have access to the global objects within that extension.

Intermittent behavior in xpages application: by pressing the button to save, the document is not redirected and is displayed again

I'm having a problem with a new xpages application that was deployed in production for a few months, but has now only been expanded to the entire enterprise now. The problem that did not happen while the application was in production pilot is intermittent and happens when an action executes a current notesxsppdocument save (currentdocument). The symptom is that by pressing the button you save, the document is not redirected and is displayed again. What can be this problem. session timeout, a bug from xpages? The application basically uses the components of the extension library, there is no external component to the xpages. When the problem occurs, if the user closes the document's xpages opens again and then clicks the button again the code runs successfully.
I have a function that stores a file attached to the doc in a repository. I suspect she's the problem. The function uses the file upload component and a button to execute a java agent that stores the file in a repository. The button code below follows. Its function is basically to create the rich text if it does not exist and call the agent that consumes a web service to transfer the file to a repository and erase it from the document.
I asked the user not to use the function for a few days at the time of the service to verify that the problem will persist.
if(validaArquivo())
{
var url=#ReplaceSubstring(context.getUrl(),"openDocument","editDocument")
url += '&tab=dossie' ;
var fieldItem:NotesItem =
currentDocument.getDocument().getFirstItem("arquivos");
if (fieldItem==null){
// create the field as an RTF
//writeToLog("Creating xxxxx field");
var rtItem:NotesRichTextItem =
currentDocument.getDocument().createRichTextItem("arquivos");
currentDocument.save();
}else if (fieldItem.getType()==1280){
//writeToLog("--> Converting xxxxx to RTF");
currentDocument.replaceItemValue("arquivosTEXT",
fieldItem.getText());
fieldItem.remove();
var rtItem:NotesRichTextItem =
currentDocument.getDocument().createRichTextItem("arquivos");
currentDocument.save();
}
var agente:NotesAgent=database.getAgent("(SalvaAnexos)");
agente.runWithDocumentContext(currentDocument.getDocument(true));
context.redirectToPage(url)
}
else
{
document1.removeAllAttachments("arquivos");
}
When users are using the application, rebuild or to change some code on prod environment can cause this.

Controlling a web page, casperJS like : can that be done with chrome extension?

I am trying to develop a chrome extension to automtize some tasks on the web (fill form, go to next page, extract data...)
The idea is to develop a kind of http://casperjs.org/ as chrome extension.
I am injecting some JS to an active tab.
JS is run, and everything works fine: problems raise when I navigate to a new url.
When the page navigates to new url (document.location for instantce), the JS stops running since it is unloaded.
My idea would be to store the JS state and resume it once page has loaded:
ex content of source variable: I inject it in background to the web page.
for (i = 0;i < 5;i++) {
document.location = "http://www.example.com/page"+i;
waitUntilPageIsLoaded();
var source = $("body").html();
extractData(source);
}
chrome.tabs.executeScript(null, { code: source });
Of course this does not work since we change the location of the page.
Or more generally speaking, can casperJS can be developped using google chrome extension ?

Opening and writing to a new window from a Google Chrome extension sandbox page

(Cross posted here)
Hi,
I have a sandboxed page (specified in my manifest) which is loaded into an iframe in my extension's background page. From within my sandboxed page, I'd like to open a new window and write to it, i.e.:
var win = window.open(); win.document.write('<p&gtHello!</p>');
This works from my extension's background page and from regular web pages, but when invoked from either content scripts or my sandboxed page, the window opens, but I cannot access the win object (it's defined, but empty---console.log outputs "Window {}").
I assume this is due to same-origin policies (with every window being given a uinque-origin within the sandboxed environment). However, since the window opens an about:blank page, I'm confused why this would matter.
Is this a feature? Is there a parameter I can add to my manifest to avoid this? And does anyone know of work-arounds that don't involve using postMessage back to my background page? My ideal solution is to have my sandboxed script open a new window and interact with it directly, not with message passing.
I can provide a full example if necessary, but I'm hoping someone might just know off the top of their head. I'm running Chrome 24.0.1312.57 on Mac and 24.0.1312.68 on Ubuntu if that helps.
Thanks,
Hank
Content scripts, by definition, are part of external regular web pages you load so I'm not really sure how your script could work on a "regular web page" but not the content script. Do you mean the code works when you embed it in your own pages, but not in other pages via the content script?
Regardless, if the script is working properly from your background page, you could always try messaging. (more here: http://developer.chrome.com/extensions/messaging.html)
Script for your sandbox/contentscript:
//send message to background page
chrome.extension.sendMessage({todo: "newWindow"});
In background page:
//create a listener
chrome.extension.onMessage.addListener(
function(request, sender) {
if (request.todo === "newWindow") {
//do your stuff here
var win = window.open(); win.document.write('<p&gtHello!</p>');
}
});
Per the cross-post here, the issue is indeed that the opened window is given a unique origin. This was intentional as the members of the standards working group (SWG) felt that it would be more secure to not make an exception for about:blank pages where they inherit the sandbox's origin.
However, to get around this issue, at least for my purposes, I can use the following method. First, forget sandboxing. This workaround uses an iframe embedded in a background page with the src url set to data:text/html,.... This gives a unique origin to the iframe so it's no longer in extension space. That means eval can be used and chrome apis cannot be accessed. Unlike in a sandbox, windows opened from the iframe share that same origin as the iframe, allowing created windows to be accessed. For example:
In a background html page:
<html>
<head>
...
<script src="background.js"></script>
...
</head>
<body>
...
<iframe id="myframe"></iframe>
...
</body>
</html>
In background.js:
...
document.getElementById('myframe').setAttribute('src', 'data:text/html,'+
encodeURI('<html><head>'+
'<script src='+chrome.extension.getURL('jquery.js')+'></script>'+
'<script src='+chrome.extension.getURL('myscript.js')+'></script>'+
...
'</head><body></body></html>'
));
...
In myscript.js
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
...
// To receive messages from background.js.
window.addEventListener('message', function(e){ ... } );
// To send messages to background.js.
parent.postMessage({...}, '*');
// To open AND ACCESS a window.
var win = window.open();
win.document.write('Hello'); // Fails in sandbox, works here.
// Eval code, if you want. Can't do this from an extension
// page loaded normally unless you allow eval in your manifest.
// Here, it's okay!
eval( 'var x = window.open(); x.document.write("Hi!")' );
// No chrome apis.
chrome.log( chrome.extension ); // -> undefined
chrome.log( chrome.windows ); // -> undefined
// No direct access to background page (e.g., parent).
chrome.log( parent ); // -> Window with no properties.
...
});

Chrome Extension + Getting Hang while any dialogue comes while opening a page

I have created one extension to test my website, which will open page and do some activity like set text, get text etc etc.
I have created one C# application and via websocket I will communicate with extension.
In my extension I have added listener as below,
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
websocket.send(""); // Send signal to C# to execute next command
});
so when I will open any website e.g www.google.com, it will fire above event and my next action will come to execute, but issue is while I open any website which will have alert box at the first stage of loading page, will never execute above listener e.g If I will open http://www.crowderassoc.com/javascript/alertbox.html, it will give you an alert message, till your click on OK, the page will be busy and so It will get stuck.
I am created automated script, in which I will place one MSAA command to click on that "OK" button, but my it just got hanged.
Is there any option that I can make it work in this situation?
Move code of DOMContentLoaded Listener
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
websocket.send(""); // Send signal to C# to execute next command
});
in Content Scripts to listener of tabs.onUpdated or any of webRequest, webNavigation Appropriate Listeners in Background Page.
