VM Player running Ubuntu only logs to guest session - linux

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on VM Player. Everything worked perfectly well, but all of a sudden, after launching, Ubuntu no longer logins with my username. Instead, I only have Guest Session. If I go to switch user, it is the same story. The /etc/shadow file displays my username though, as expected (among the rest).
Running su username returns no permission. Is there any other way for me to retrieve the account? Can I switch from the terminal to my username in a Guest Session?
Thank you.

Sounds like your automatic login settings have changed. You can change this by going to System - Administration - Login Window. You will be prompted for Admin rights, which is your user account probably. Once you authenticate, you check 'enable automatic login' and enter your account. Or the file to edit is /etc/lightdm.conf.
With that said, try not to use an administrator account when using your computer on a daily basis. Good practice is to use a normal user account on a daily basis.

RDP User Azure VM

I created user for RDP into Azure VM and was using it for few times, today I tried to login but I have forgotten what user I used. Is there any way to se what was the user and maybe password for RDP to VM machine?
You can try to reset the admin user password of your server, if you don’t remenber the name of this, don’t worry this action will create another one.
select Reset password under Help > enter a username (new one if you don’t know the old one) and a password

On-prem Deployment issues with Deployment script on Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.508] Power Shell 5.1

I am attempting to do an on prem deployment from AZ Devops to a local box. Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.508] Using Deployment Groups feature. I checked the box for use Personal Access Token as in the image yet it asks for a password. The user name and password I give it is some how unacceptable even though is an administrator. Is that different than
"NT Authority\System"
Which user name and pwd should I use?
Shouldn't it bypass prompt for usr/pwd and substitute PAT?
I have a PAT in my azure devops. Do I need to enter before running script?
Should I do an AZ-Logon First?
Then when i run in Admin Window prompt for user name and pwd come in to play. It wants some other user / pwd. I gave it an Admin usr pwd on box.
My Powershell is Version ------- 5.1.19041.1
I tried some more the Flow of the script has changed i wish I had the old script text for comparison. It seems different as it is now more descriptive:
Enter a valid value for User account to use for the service.
So I have tried putting
BM-SERVER\LocalSystem
BM-SERVER\Local System
BM-SERVER\markd
BM-SERVER\Local Service
BM-SERVER\LocalService
6.BM-SERVICE\Network Service
All but 3. respond : Enter a valid value for User account to use for the service
3. responds with: Invalid windows credentials entered. Try again or ctrl-c to quit
In this case I know it is valid account name and pwd
I can't reproduce the same issue on my side. Please check whether your password is right, case-sensitivity?
I use the my Admin account (lancel, which I use to login the Windows System) and corresponding password when entering User Account, and it works.
Also you can choose to Press Enter to use NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM instead of local account as Account for Service if the local account keeps throwing errors. It's also a widely recommended way, you can feel free to use default NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.
I read the prompt carefully and when i let it use the default account there was no need to enter an account or password. It worked and my deployment task is done!
Short form just press Enter when prompted for an account

Remote Desktop user can't log in, although user has the right permission

I am using a remote desktop connection to a server (Windows Server 2012 R2). I have an admin account, which can log in without any trouble. I have another account, no admin, that is granted to log in to the server, as per the following screenshot.
link to picture 1 + 2
Still, when I try to log in using this account, I get the message above. Adding the user to the admin group might solve the problem, but that is not an option in this case.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
It seems that only administarotrs can login remotly. change the polices in the way that remote desktop group users have such this right.

Simulating Linux-like admin privilege enabling in Windows 10

In Linux, when we execute a script/application/command line which needs sudo, it ask for the password even current logged account has sudo privileges.
In Windows, if admin user account is logged in, all it asks for executing the app is clicking a button. For implementing this kind of procedure in Windows 10, I created 2 different accounts that one is normal and other is with admin privileges. So far it satisfies the needs when we execute a privilege needed process on normal account, it asks for the password of admin account. But problem starts when switching between user files (Interraction between Normal user desktop and admin user application doesn't work).
Basically, I would like to create a sudo alike user in Windows 10. Any suggestions?
In Windows , you can run an application as admin , even though logged in as normal user
Do a right click on application -> compatiblity -> (change settings for all users)

How to access softwares installed by local user in domain user account

I have installed a lot of application and utility software on my laptop using my local windows 8.1 account. recently i have joined a company where i got a domain account, when i joined the company domain and logged in using domain account i couldn't find most of my application that is available when log in using local account. how can i make those software applications available in my domain account as well rather than to re-install all of them.
Another question is that I have administrative rights and even then when try to install any software on any client pc i need to provide the administrative user password. how can I make it so it do not ask me administrative user password when i install any software on any client.
I have the administrative rights with domain user account and i can modify my domain user account easily.
Thanks in Advance
You don't specify, I am assuming you are using the start menu & desktop (and NOT the metro tiles).
First task, make programs available to both local and domain logins. (Substitute your actual login names for local-user and domain-user.)
While logged in as domain-user, use Windows Explorer to browse to C:\Users\local-user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
You will see there the shortcuts (and folders for shortcuts) for the programs you can't find logged in as domain-user. You should be able to double-click these shortcuts to launch the programs, no harm in trying it to verify.
You can then move these shortcuts (and shortcut folders) to be available to "all users" on the laptop by moving them to the folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Second task, eliminate the annoying the administrator prompts.
Open Control Panel > Users > Change User Account Control settings (middle of window) --- move the slider at left all the way to the bottom "Never notify".
You will be prompted for administrator credentials to confirm you want to do this.
