I wonder yii works with cassandra.
If anybody know how it work.
Please post link or some references.
Thank you in advance.
I your using a major PHP ORM with Yii, the real question is 'Does PDO have a driver that will work with cassandra?'
http://code.google.com/a/apache-extras.org/p/cassandra-pdo/
If you're using Yii's native Active Record ORM, it only supports AR with (from their site):
Support for AR is limited by DBMS. Currently, only the following DBMS are supported:
MySQL 4.1 or later
PostgreSQL 7.3 or later
SQLite 2 and 3
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or later
Oracle
If you want to use an application component other than db, or if you want to work with multiple databases using AR, you should override CActiveRecord::getDbConnection(). The CActiveRecord class is the base class for all AR classes.
Of course, ORMs are meant for use on relational databases so using something like cassandra, Mongodb, or Couchdb might not be best to sit under an ORM.
Otherwise, your question doesn't make much sense. It's like asking 'does database work with my code'.

I am quite new working with nodejs, I need to make a REST API that can work with websocket. I was searching for a framework that I could work with, I found actionhero.js, I think that can fit my needs.
But I see a little problem with this framework, that I can't find information about how can I make it work with oracle database, I will be really grateful if any of you can give me a light on how can I make it work this framework with a Oracle Database, or suggest me a framework based on REST API that can fit my needs.
Thank you.
Actionhero is, as you point out, a REST API framework. It doesn't include any database drivers (other than for redis, which it uses for cluster communication). You can easily ad support for any database you like in an initializer.
There are also plugins which add database support. For example, the ah-sequelize-plugin adds support for the Sequelize ORM, probably the most popular node.js ORM. Sequelize doesn't support the Oracle DB out of the box (very few things do), but there exist drivers you can use: https://github.com/adeo-proxideco/sequelize-oracle
I'm using Cassandra as the database and want to use Devise
Does Devise support Cassandra as the database? I looked around but did not find any information related to Devise-Cassandra on the wiki or anywhere else.
Is there third party plugins supporting it or other gem for authentication as devise?
Thank you
No, I have never heard of such thing.
Actually I suggest you keep your users in a more traditional database and use cassandra only for the most intensive I/O data.
Cassandra wasn't made to substitute other databases nor to be user with ORM (that's actually written in its official webpage)
I was wondering is node.js good fit for searching massive amount of data, i know its main use is for asynchronous sceanrious like chat, ftp and real time etc. I was thinking of using node.js with mongodb to search 300,000 records of books for the library at my university, and see if it would oppose to using php & mysql. any advice would be great thanks.
Node.js would be a fine application interface for searching data .. but practically, so would PHP or many other languages :).
Your backend data storage solution (MySQL, MongoDB, ..) is a harder choice and really depends on the how you want to index and search the data.
If your main goal is search you probably want to look into a search application based on something like Apache Lucene. These typically use a relational database backend, although some newer efforts like ElasticSearch do have growing community support for ingesting data from sources like MongoDB (ref: MongoDB River Plugin for ElasticSearch).
Since you mentioned book search and libraries, you might also want to look into ILS (Integrated Library Search) applications which may already solve that problem. There are several open source products such as Koha and Evergreen.
Look at MongooseJS
Absolute perfect fit in my opinion.
I am new to subsonic and I'd like to know about the best practices regarding the following scenario:
Subsonic supports multiple database systems, e.g. SQLServer and MySQL. Our customers need to decide while deploying our application to their servers, which database system should be used. Long story short: the providerName, normally specified within the application configuration, should be configurable after the application is finished.
How can this be done? Do I have to generate seperate data libraries for each database system I want to support?
Thank you in advance
Marco
No you do not need to genarate seperate libraries.
How ever you can not use direct sql string as you understand but you need to go always using subsonic sql create code.
Also is good to make some tests on the diferent databases, because not all code have been 100% testes on every case.
I currently developed an app that connects to SQL Server 2005 database, so my DAL objects where generated using information from that DB.
It will also be possible to connect to an Oracle and MySQL db, all with the same table structures (aside from the normal differences in fields, such as varbinary(max) in SQL Server and BLOB in Oracle, and so on). For this purpose, I already defined multiple connection strings and multiple SubSonic providers for the different DB's the app will run on.
My question is, if I generated my objects using a SQL Server database, should the generated objects work transparently with the other DB's or do I need to generate a different DAL for each database engine I use? Should I be aware of any possible bugs I may encounter while performing these operations?
Thanks in advance for any advice on this issue.
I'm using SubSonic 2.2 by the way....
From what I've been able to test so far, I can't see an easy way to achieve what I'm trying to do.
The ideal situation for me would have been to generate SubSonic objects using SQL Server for example, and just be able to switch dynamically to MySQL by just creating at runtime the correct Provider for it along with its connection string. I got to a point where my app would correctly connect from SQL Server to a MySQL DB, but there's a point where the app fails since SubSonic internally generates queries of the form
SELECT * FROM dbo.MyTable
which MySQL doesn't support obviously. I also noticed queries that enclosed table names with brackets ([]), so it seems that there are a number of factors that would limit the use of one Provider along multiple DB engines.
I guess my only other option is to sort it out with multiple generated providers, although I must admit it does not make me comfortable knowing that I'll have N copies of basically the same classes along my project.
I would really love to hear from anyone else if they've had similar experiences. I'll be sure to post my results once I get everything sorted out and working for my project.
Has any of this changed in 3.0? This would definitely be a worthy reason for me to upgrade if life is any easier on this matter...
