Why wont Coda 2 save passwords for ftp access? - web

I have recently switched to Coda 2 on Mac (OSX 10.8.2) and under site definitions the host, username and all other information save fine. It will not, however save my passwords. I DO NOT have "ask each time" checked (preemptive answer). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Found a solution for this. If you open up Keychain Access, find the key that is named after your site so for example ftp.sitename.com. Double click it and go to access. Make it so that any program can use it. Then if you go back to Coda, enter the password once and d/c. It should be saved when you re-open the program :)

Great! But the only thing is missing, that you didn't mention how or from where to open KeyChain access. I used mac spotlight to find it.
Actual location to open Keychain access: under Applications > Utility > KeychainAccess
Just select the ftp.yourwebsiteurl.com
Doubleclick on it
There will be two tabs. Click on AccessControl tab
Select the radio button option : Allow all applications to access this item.
It will ask your system admin password to allow.
Go back to Coda > right click on your website > click Disconnect
Now reenter your password > Connect.
That's it. Your password will be remembered for further connections.

Coda 2.x has built in FTP, git, SSH, and more.
Coda's way of dealing with FTP is to have you set up your files as a "Site"
Once you set it up this way, it saves FTP logins, git logins, ssh logins, etc for all aspects of that site.
Do this:
Open Coda - Coda should automatically open at the 'sites' page. If not, press Command-1 to go to sites.
Right-click, and select 'add site'.
Fill out the details for the site, and save.
Whenever you open that site, Coda will automatically connect to the server.
It's pretty easy to walk thru the dialog options.

You have to set their computer to be a trusted source. In order to get around this issue, you will need to create a Digital Certificate. Digital Certificates are good only on the computer they are created on, so if this database will be used on multiple computers then each one will have to create a Digital Certificate.
To do this, you will need to perform the following tasks:
Click on Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft
Office Tools -> Digital Certificate For VBA Projects (If you don’t
have this, you will need to contact your IT Dept.)
Enter a Certificate Name. Make it obvious like MyProgramName and Click OK
Open the Access database which contains the security warning you want to bypass
Go into the Design View of any Module
Click on Tools -> Digital Signature
Choose your Digital Certificate you created in Step 2
Save and close the database
Re-Open the database. You will now be prompted with a different Security Warning that states the file has been digitally signed.
Check off the “Always trust files from this publisher…” box and click the Open button
All subsequent times you enter this database, you will not be prompted with a security warning.
Note - I wrote the above for our company based on Office 2003. If you're using a more recent version, the instructions may vary somewhat.
other way is following:
click on file and then options
click on trust center and then trust center settings on the right
then click on trusted locations and add new location
browse for the location and save.
that's it.. done.. now no more warnings..
That is a standard warning to indicate the file you are opening has web links and macros.
If you trust the file, just say OK or “Allow”
You can control if this message is displayed: Office button > Excel Options button > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings button (I have no idea why they have this extra button, DUMB DESIGN! )

I have an Access database that processes other Access databases. I get OP's error when connecting to one of the other Access databases. To fix the issues, I opened the other Access database and clicked Enabled Content. Then, the Access database is trusted and OP's error doesn't occur when connecting to that Access database from another Access database.
You can create a registry key that will add the directory as a trusted location and will not show the warning anymore. Explanation about the key:
– The number “14.0” is the version of MS Office. You can change the numbers that represent the version you are executing.
– The “Location20” is a unique name that you assign. 20 can be any number that is not previously used. Other programs include default MS Access wizards, already have used other numbers. But if you want to make more than one path as trusted location, then each location must end up with different number.
– The “C:\Database\” is the physical path that you want to set to be as Trusted Location. You can place any path that you choose here.
By copy and pasting the above coding into a text file and save it with a name such as RemoveSecurityWarning.reg, you can then run the file into your PC’s registry just by making double click on the file.
The best way is to add the location of the document or the document itself to the Trusted Locations in Registry (if you use only Access runtime on client machines, there is no way to add it through the Office application, like you would do in Excel).

You would need to create a new Location key and add the necessary Path (and Description) strings inside with the appropriate location of your file. This way the nag dialog will be gone and you won't need to worry about certificates.
Shared may mean it is located on a network share. It is not advisable to add a network location to the Trusted locations and you would need to set the additional flag AllowNetworkLocations to 1. I would advise you to copy the Access modules to the user computers, which would also make things better with the speed I believe.
If anybody else have this problem, it happened to me, with a shared file on a network environment, and the simplest solution was to install Microsoft Office service pack 2, even better is having automatic updates for Office turned on. You can find it here.

Cygwin no available download site

I have tried from my office it show available download site. Then I used same installer (setup-x86_64.exe) at home it not show anything. Both my pc (office and home) i set up google dns. Is it because im using wireless connection at home? Please advise. Thank you.
I had the same issue. i changed my setting in "Select Your Internet Connection" to "Use Internet Explorer Proxy" instead of "Direct Connection".It worked like a charm. I guess the issue is due to the proxy layer at work.

Chose the mirror web address nearest to you by clicking right and select the option "SAVE LINK ADDRESS" from the menu.

I just met the same problems. At the very beginning, I chose the first option which is directly connect, but I can not get any downloading websites as the image showed above. Then I tried to back and chose the second one which is select your internet collection, the same result is displayed on the screen.
The solution is that we have to restart the installer and directly choose the second option. If you still don't get any websites, please be patient, try one more but still need to restart the installer. I just tried three times, maybe four times, which I can not remember, but it worked finally.

Had the same error today, my solution was to :
move the setup-x86_64.exe out of the Download folder into e.g. c:\tmp
i think the cygwin setup process has some problems with creating a temporary file in the same directory of its installer due to a lack of permissions and does not show an error message
The solution for me was enabling TLS 1.2 support in Internet Properties. But hold on! You'd better update your Windows before, because there is an update that enables support for this protocol by default. If you don't want to update your Windows, for reasons, follow these steps:
Go to Internet Properties, you can find this in start menu, in control panel, or hit Win + R and run: Inetcpl.cpl.
Go to "Advanced" tab.
Scroll to "Security" section.
Check Use TLS 1.2 option.
Run Cygwin installer again and now it should work. If not, maybe try with other security options.
How did I find out this
After a few failed install attempts, I decided to look for some hints in Event Viewer, and to my surprise, I found them. In System logs I spot lots of errors from Schannel service with a meaningless description:
The following fatal alert was received: 70.
I Googled for further explanations. Errors like these are caused by SSL failures, so something wrong was happening between Cygwin installer and Cygwin site. Something in my head told me to check Internet Properties for options relating to security, so I did and I found disabled protocols.
Step1: select use internet setting.
Step2: "http://cygwin.refractal.net/" add this URL.
This works for me.
Also, https://cygwin.com/mirrors.lst has several alternate URL's, depending upon the request location (your location).
I do not have admin privileges on this windows 10 host, but this worked:
setup-x86_64.exe -B -O -s http://mirror.clarkson.edu/cygwin
which allowed me to install cygwin from that one mirror site.
Do you have K9 filter installed by any chance ? I have the same problem posted, but I do know my issue is the K9 filter.
Add one of the site in http://cygwin.com/mirrors.lst manually
and select one of the internet connection type which is appropriate for your internet connection. and proceed...it worked for me
i found a solution to this problem:
first, go to https://cygwin.com/mirrors.html , look for your location and click onto the FTP link.
Then, you should see 4 folders:
noarch,
unsupported,
x86,
x86_64
click on "go back" or something like this (go back 1 folder).
Then you should see a many folders. Search the"cygwin" folder and simply drag it to your desktop. Now you should have a shortcut to this FTP Folder. Now, right-click the shortcut and click onto "properties" and copy the URL.
Now, you can open the installation program.
Click on "Install from Internet",
All Users / Just Me (your choice),
Use System Proxy Settings.
Now you will get an error message (if you already got that error, it wont show up again). Ignore the error and it will ask you for "available Download Sites".
Paste the URL from the shortcut into the "User URL" and click on "add".
Then, a "Select Package" Window will show up. click on "all" and then on "next".
Finished!

Now some guys will ask: Why didnt you just put the ftp link directly into the setup?
Well, i tried that and setup crashed on me every single time. With the shortcut it worked fine.

"Run as administrator" did the trick for me ....
(Win 7) If run without the list is blank, for whatever reason admin privileges are needed for the mirror list to load.
In Select Connection Type Page, Select Direct Connection and click Next
User URL text box ftp://cygwin.mirrors.pair.com and Click Add
Select the same URL from Available Download Sites list and proceed Next.
It worked for me.
I had the same issue. Disabling kaspersky solved it. There are a list of programs known to interfere with cygwin functionality. Please find the list here here(4.44)

Adding a mapping to Hosts file and cannot save

I am trying to add a mapping to the Hosts file for my SharePoint site. Every time I hit save, it opens the Save As... dialog box and then says I need to save in My Documents, as I do not have permission to alter the Hosts file in its original location. I tried this on two accounts with Admin rights and the results were the same. Where can I enable this right?
Note: If it helps, this is for a SharePoint 2010 project. I am remotely connected to a server via RDP.
If it's anything involving permissions, odds are you need to open programs as administrator. A wise rule to abide by.
For this you can just open your fresh notepad as administrator... and then from File menu select your host file location and open file. After that edit the host file and save..... It will save without asking anything... :)

Hide a folder from USER only but not server

I'm looking for programs that will hide a folder from the user, but the PC will stil be able to access it.
For instance, I have a folder which has HTML files, so I want the program to hide it and not allow user to see it unless he gives a correct password, but if I will access the folder from any browser inorder to see that content(the website), it will work.
Actually, the functionality is similiar to Windows hidden folders which you can set by clicking on the right mouse button -> properties -> hide ->apply, but I also want that inorder to unhide it and view it, you will have to supply a password.

Set up a special user to access those files and run your web server in

WebBrowser Control: Is there a good documentation on browsing local files and folders?

I am using the WebBrowser control to browse local files and folders, but the control seems to be designed primarily to browse the Web (as its name implies).
I need to be able to do common tasks, like using the "Up one level" button, or put the control in "File Search" mode, get the active item, etc.
Is there a way to do these things using this control?
Is there a comprehensive documentation somewhere to explain local browsing using the WebBrowser?

Here is a good intro that should help you get started on this. Most of the work with this dialog will be done by the browser, you need only to prompt it how to open the dialog.
I think you may be confusing the WebBrowser control with Windows Explorer.
If you want to browse around your local file system, then you need to add an Open File Dialog to the form containing the Web Browser control, then have a button of some kind open that dialog to locate the file to load into the WebBrowser control.
