Problem solved
Changed all folder and file permissions to 755
All .htaccess files
with absolute paths (/app/webroot/)
I moved my CakePHP 2.x website to another hoster (cyon.ch). Now i got 500 Internal Server Error. I tryed all the fixed who are recommended for the 1and1 hoster, but they won't work.
The error comes from the /app/webroot/.htacces file, cause the others seems to work. If i try to call a image from the webroot/img directory, it works fine (www.myDomain.ch/img/myPicture.jpg), but not the index.php file.
AddType text/x-component .htc
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
# FORCE WWW
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.myDomain\.ch$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.myDomain.ch/$1 [R=301,L]
# REMOVE TRAILING SLASHES
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [QSA,L]
</IfModule>
The "FORCE WWW" and "REMOVE TRAILING SLASHED" are ok as well, if i type myDomain.ch/, i'll got redirect to www.myDomain.ch.
My Domain points to /path/to/root/public_html. Thats also the folder, in which the cake app folder is located.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found this error in the error log (Permissions for index.php are set to 755)
SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/myUsername/public_html/app/webroot/index.php" is writeable by group

My laravel 5 project is works well on localhost. After moving the project to the server it shows an internal server error.
Error message
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
I checked the requirements. All requirements are correct.
PHP = 5.5
Mcrypt PHP Extension = Enabled
OpenSSL PHP Extension = Enabled
Mbstring PHP Extension = Enabled
Tokenizer PHP Extension = Enabled
Both .htaccess files on the root and public folder are same,
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
# Redirect Trailing Slashes...
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# Handle Front Controller...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
</IfModule>
I tested by removing the both .htaccess files but it still shows the Internal server error.
How Can I fix this issue ? Any suggestions ?
check if mod_negotiation is enabled. I had the same issue just now
I have faced the same issue while migrating the shared server . The solution that worked me is as below.
Let's say there is laravel folder called test which contains folder structure of laravel.
I have use 2 different .htaccess file
1) one in the root folder of the (installed) laravel , i.e Along with test folder with content as below.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^test/public
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ test/public/$1 [L]
2) One in the public folder i.e inside test/public with content as below.
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
It worked for me.
So I'm having a weird problem with .htaccess file and codeigniter. I have a wamp server on my local machine and there it works as expected. I have folders like that wamp/www/my_app and in my_app folder i have .htaccess file like that:
ErrorDocument 404 /index.php
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /my_app/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_rewrite.c>
ErrorDocument 404 /index.php
</IfModule>
And in mine config.php gile i have:
$config['base_url']='';
$config['index_page']='';
$config['uri_protocol']='AUTO';
So i tried uploading that project to debian server on link like apps.myserver.com/my_app. I put my app to folder var/www/my_app. But the trick is that it doesn't work.
I have tried changing uri_protocol to all 5 options but no change. I also tried putting .htaccess file to var/www instead of var/www/my_app but no change either.
I keep getting that stupid 404 Not Found error when i try to access controlers without index.php prefix.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I checked phpinfo on server and found that mod_rewrite is in loaded modules.
The mod_rewrite module can have a couple different extensions. Your Debian server might use mod_rewrite.so instead of mod_rewrite.c.
That said, if you know mod_rewrite is enabled, and your application isn't being widely distributed and needs to check for it, you can safely eliminate the if checks.
You mentioned commenting out everything except lines 3 and 7 -- you commented out the RewriteBase definition, which broke stuff.
Try something simple, and work from there:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /my_app/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L]
Also, one variation you can do if an .htaccess is being weird, is to change everything after index.php to a query string. Note the ? here:
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?/$1 [L]
You may or may not to change the uri_protocol config setting in CodeIgniter. My guess is you specifically won't, but it's info for others who are having .htaccess issues.
I have a directory structure like below.
public_html/
/abc/
/xyz/
/pqr/
there is a index.php in each these directories, abc,xyz,pqr.
now whenever is there any request like domain.com/abc/def/ghi should be rewritten to domain.com/abc/index.php/def/ghi
domain.com/xyz/def/ghi => domain.com/xyz/index.php/def/ghi
domain.com/pqr/def/ghi => domain.com/pqr/index.php/def/ghi
What should be the .htaccess file and where it should be placed?
I have .htaccess file in each directory(abc,xyz,pqr) like below, but it is not working. it is showing 404 page not found. Please guide me to handle all these rewrite conditions.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
But this is not working... If this is right .htaccess then please tell me if there is any other server side problem. I am setting up this on CentOs server.
You will probably need a RewriteBase /abc to deal with the subfolders.
I had problem with my directory access, I was needed to update the access for content directory(domain.com) in apache config file(httpd.conf)
I have a website built on codeigniter and am trying to get the PP IPN working with it. I have looked at a few CI specific libraries, but want to have a stand alone IPN file.
Basically, I have CI installed in the website root and I have another directory 'pp', also in the root.
I'm trying to test the IPN using Paypal's sandbox, but it's returning a 404, I also can't access the file directly.
Here is my .htaccess file:
XSendFile on
Options -Indexes
Options +FollowSymlinks
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
### Canonicalize codeigniter URLs
RewriteRule ^(index(/index)?|index(\.php)?)/?$ / [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^(.*)/index/?$ $1 [L,R=301]
# Removes trailing slashes (prevents SEO duplicate content issues)
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ $1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www) [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.net/$1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|pp|robots\.txt)
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_rewrite.c>
# Without mod_rewrite, route 404's to the front controller
ErrorDocument 404 /index.php
</IfModule>
Here's hoping it's something really obvious!
Thanks,
Ryan
If the pp directory exists, you could just put an htaccess file in that directory and just have:
RewriteEngine On
in it by itself, and any rules in the main htaccess file would get ignored. If your paypal stuff already has rewrite rules in an htaccess file in the pp directory, you may want to look into those rules as the cause of the 404.
Do you have mod_rewrite.c enabled. If not, that .htaccess will always give 404. (Sorry I couldn't make this a comment, don't have the rep).
I'm using CakePHP 1.2 Version and When I upload my site on Live Server, it gives me 500 Internal Server Error
When I check mod_rewrite in phpinfo function, its not visible, but on same server another Joomla site is running perfectly fine without any problem of htaccess or path rewrite issue with AceSEF Component of Joomla for htaccess page / paths, so I believe as this is Shared server it must be that way.
I have tried different options like adding 'RewriteBase /' in root .htaccess file or trying the same in app/webroot/.htaccess files as well but no solution works for me.
Even when I write, 'RewriteBase /' in root .htaccess and app/.htaccess file, error changes to 400 Page Not Found. I don't know why.
Below is the .htaccess code:
root .htaccess file:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L]
RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
app/.htaccess file:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^$ webroot/ [L]
RewriteRule (.*) webroot/$1 [L]
</IfModule>
app/webroot/.htaccess file:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
</IfModule>
I have read through some links like: Apache-and-mod_rewrite-and-htaccess though not much helpful
Any answer or solution for this error? Much appreciated !!
Thanks
Check if the rewrite module is linked in the enabled modules of apache. Like you said it isnt listed in phpinfo() so the module maybe isnt enabled and joomla has some workarounds.
(use following commands at your own risk, you need root access)
under debian/ubuntu; apache2 enable the module like that
cd /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/
ln -s ../mods-available/rewrite.load rewrite.load
you have to restart apache2
service apache2 restart
Then the module should be enabled! So try again.
Alternatively, tell the url you try to open!
