Limit the size of attachments in the Notes client? - lotus-notes

Okay maybe iam getting blind or overlooking something.
Since you can set a size limit on the attachments in the Inotes client i thought you could do this for the Notes client as well.
Going through the server settings, policies and so on i came to the conclusion that it is not possible other than adding lotusscript to the querysave of the memo, appointment, (more) forms.
And iam not really a fan of that, it is a domino template, not a custom one. And i foresee some issues. Not that i can think of one right now.
And making a mail rule won't do either.
I could put the code in the onchange or validation event of the rich text elements. Again its the mail template.
So the big question is.....
Is there some way to do this with a policy or any other way than tampering with the mail template.

to catch all the big mails we are planning to use the filesendr app an addon you can find them on openntf.
In our test env. it works like a charm. But people can still send large attachments, filesendr will kick in but in the senders his mailfile the memo with attachment will be stored, or in DAOS when installed.
We want to limit the size of the attachments allowed, without hacking the template.

If you insist on doing this on the client-side, you have two choices: modify the template, or write a plug-in that uses the C API Extension Manager feature to intercept NSFNoteUpdate operations and inspect the size of attachments.

You cannot set a limit on the size of an attachment that gets added to a Notes email or document. A user can attach a file of any size to a document, including an email document. Perhaps using database quotas could limit that to a degree, but that's not the granularity you're looking for.
However, at the server you can set a limit on the maximum message size, and the Notes Router will fail a message if it is above that size (i.e. send a non-delivery report). Follow these steps to find the setting:
Go to the Domino Directory on the server,
Click Configuration > Servers > Configurations.
Select the configuration doc for your server.
Click Router/SMTP > Restrictions and Controls > Restrictions
Set the Maximum message size field to some value, say 10,000KBs
That will prevent any message larger than 10MBs from going through the router.

Gmail - Link to Draft in non-conversation view

I am importing/creating drafts in Gmail using the Gmail API. After creation I'd like to redirect the user to the Gmail UI with the opened Draft in the composer window.
I made it work properly for https://mail.google.com/mail/#drafts?compose=[MESSAGE ID]. Other urls I found here also worked well. Gmail is doing some redirects and eventually the composer window is opened with the draft.
Now my issue:
If the user has not enabled "Conversation view" this will not work at all. The redirect will then result in https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#drafts?compose=new and only an empty, new composer window is shown and a new draft is created by the UI.
If I open the draft directly the ID-format is different. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#drafts?compose=hJzgZpSqgLQcCWgZqnlNRzRBfMbjZVnZklzvcFxhQCdwT... and I have no idea if this format can be generated somehow.
Does anybody has an idea or experience to also make it work with this UI setting. How I can force Gmail to load the draft into the composer window?

Additional information
The main difference between them is that the first is treated as a conversation while the second example is not.
You can use #drafts instead of #inbox in the URL.
The number after .../mail/u/ is the session you have opened
You can retrieve the DRAFT_MESSAGE_ID by making a request to the API
You can approximately generate the compose ID by yourself, there are some examples out there (not recommended). I strongly recommend you to use the DRAFT_MESSAGE_ID instead.
This appears to still be an issue the one solution I did find was that you can find your draft directly (even though it would be the last draft) and go through multiple accounts by redirecting to

You need to get your message id toi replace the area from <> from your draft. So you'll have to create the draft first. Get the google message ID, then use that with messages/get to get the Global Message Id (also referred to as message id) and then use that with a search. At this point you'll open a page with a search to a single draft but it will not be opened. Your users will have to click on the one message. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to have the good way work for conversation view, and this way work for non.
I tried many different URLS and nothing worked. As noted in the original question, it might work that you could link to the full URL but I see no way to get that. If you spend long enough working with an email you'll even find that ID changes so they aren't even stable within a single day.
Another solution that could work is as explained:

But as noted this does not open the draft on the first time you go there. It seems you have to travel to that link 2 times in a row to get the message to appear. I guess you could go to the page maybe inject some javascript to go to the page again but I don't know how to do that.

Email sent from lotus notes which includes sent form not working in gmail

While sending email from lotus notes to Gmail using Lotus Script, buttons are not visible in Gmail.
As Anders says, Any standard or custom Action Buttons (at the top) will not be available in Gmail. You would need to code your own Gmail interface to reproduce.
If you are talking about buttons in the actual rich text of the mail, these will definitely not get translated when the mail leaves and you should get a message saying...
"The following items cannot be sent or saved in MIME (internet mail) format."
That would be a clear sign that you are going to need to take another look at your assumptions.
If you are planning a migration, you do need to check your assumptions (and your vendor's promises) carefully, there is a lot of infrastructure and functionality that is taken for granted in the Notes/Domino stack and just not available, or significantly different, in others.
Stored forms are a feature that is unqiue to Notes. They contain Notes design elements, formulas and scripts that execute Notes functions that are provided by the Notes API DLLs that are only available in the Notes client. GMail doesn't know anything about them. Outlook doesn't know anything about them.
But if you want to send them to someone who has a GMail address but who also has the Notes client, then there is a way to do it manually using the "Send this email to other Notes mail user(s) through the Internet" feature, which appears in the Advance tab of the Delivery Options dialog that you can bring up when sending a message. There is no simple API for automating the mechanism that is used, but it can be done. It requires creating a new empty database file with a special name (encap.ond), saving your document into that database, and then attaching the the file to a new message, which will be the one that you actually send. I don't recall if any special headers are required for this, so if you want to pursue it you will have to do some investigation by using the manual process and checking out the full headers of the message on the receiving side.

Mail sent from iNotes to custom mail in databases duplicate when edited and saved

This is a very odd issue. When sending a standard email from the iNotes client to a mail in database it will duplicate an exact copy if edited and saved. This behavior does not exhibit itself when editing and saving an email to a notes mail client. The sending mail templates are the current design and the servers are 8.5.3
Has anyone seen anything like this?
Check the design of the mail-in database. Specifically, check the properties of Memo form in the mail-in database, and see if the Versioning property is set to anything other than 'None'. (If you have an agent that is changing the form from Memo to something else, check that form instead.)
Also, turn on the LotusScript debugger, go through the edit/save process, and see what scripts are executed. I seem to recall that some versions of the standard templates used scripts to implement versioning instead of relying on the form properties.

How to create action hotspot in UI document

I've got some nice little LotusScript that I can put into the Click event of an Action Hotspot in a rich text field when I'm sending an email manually. Is there a way to programmatically create that in the UI?
My script determines the user's home server and then opens a specific document in the replica of a training database on their home server. I could create these messages with hotspots manually and provide them to the folks who want to email them out. Of course, time being money and the task being boring, I'd rather automate it. I know that I could do this by using a stored form, but am wondering if the greater capability exists, as I can see further applications for it.
One trick I used in the past was to create a profile document in a database, and store some rich text in a field on that profile doc. Then when I needed to programmatically send an email, I could get that rich text field from the profile doc and use AppendRTItem to get it into the body of an email. That should work with any type of rich text, including hotspots.
Note: this won't work in the UI to populate a new email. It does work if you are generating the emails completely in code, though.

Script to check whether all mails replied in Lotus Notes

We use Lotusnotes 6.5 as email client. We wil have around 1600+ mails for 9 hrs. If a mail not checked , we have face serious issues with our client. Can any script can be written to check whether all mails are checked and replied?

We have already tried moving the mails to another folder.But has this mailbox handled by team of persons, we noticed lot of human error happening like moving a unread mail, sometimes they would have read mail but forget to reply it etc.etc.
So I was looking out for a script solution, will your other options. Also one more thing we do is we cc our mailbox mail id for all outgoing emails to have a track of all replied mails, will this could help in any way to find out which mails was missed?
If you need to track unread marks, I second the aforementioned nsftools solution, which works in Domino 7.x too. However, this is very much Notes ID-dependent. A folder would be better.
Note that 6.5x is well out of support, and that Domino 7.x officially died this week: use something at least vaguely modern!
There's an easier non-programmatic way. Just move the email from the inbox into another folder once the email has been responded to. That is more reliable than any programmatic solution, and keeps your inbox tidy (which will certainly be necessary if you get nearly 200 emails per hour!)
That said, here are some other ideas.
Determining if the document was read
Unread marks are not your friend here, unless you'll be accessing the mail file from the same client. Also they tend to get out of sync and would likely prove unreliable at some point, especially given the number of incoming emails. Instead you'll need to have some information that is saved within the individual mail document, such as the last accessed property or a custom item you manage via scripts/formulas.
You can see if an email has been read by checking the Last Accessed property of the mail document. According to IBM's technote (https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21086670), the property will be updated when the document is read.
You could write a script in the QueryOpen event that stamps a value on the document and saves it.
Determining if the email was responded to
First off, I'd suggest you save all sent emails in case you need a record of what was sent to the client. That won't give you a way to see which emails have not been responded to, however.
Instead you could add script to the reply action within the memo form. When someone click's reply it could update the current memo, stamping an item on it to say who replied and at what time, for instance. Then you can create a view to show any emails that don't have that item, and another view to show emails that do grouped by who responded. The second view could even show how many emails each person responded to, something that might be used as a measurement of performance perhaps.
"Unread mark" checking is not exposed in the API.
I did find 2 links, this one is a basic implementation, where as this link does have more robust code and is implemented as an object in LotusScript. It should be compatible with Notes 6.5+.
I found the second link through nsftools website which has lots of great snippets that solve various problems. You should at least be able to detect if a mail has been read or not. Note that it requires making API level calls. You should be able to create a new script library and copy/paste the code into it.
