How to only show dialog after successfully validated text field - jsf

So I have form with 1 fields that need to be required
<h:form id="form">
<h:panelGrid columns="2">
<h:inputText id="default" requiredMessage="This field is required."
value="#{displayName.name}" required="true" />
<p:message for="default"/>
</h:panelGrid>
<p:commandButton value="Test" update="form" onclick="displayDlg.show();"/>
</h:form>
<p:dialog header="Dialog" widgetVar="displayDlg" id="dialog">
<h:outputText value="The name you just input is: #{displayName.name}"/>
</p:dialog>
So when I click button Test, and not having anything inside the text-box, then an error message pop out.
I want that if the validation process success, then I want to display a dialog box that display name that you just type in. But if validation fail, then dont diplay the dialog. And I have a hard time making this happen. I try to put the dialog inside or outside the dialog, but no work. Please give me some advice

You could make use of the visible attribute of <p:dialog> and ajax-update the whole dialog.
<h:form id="form">
<h:panelGrid columns="2">
<h:inputText id="default" requiredMessage="This field is required."
value="#{displayName.name}" required="true" />
<p:message for="default"/>
</h:panelGrid>
<p:commandButton value="Test" update="form :dialog" />
</h:form>
<p:dialog id="dialog" header="Dialog" visible="#{not empty displayName.name}">
<h:outputText value="The name you just input is: #{displayName.name}"/>
</p:dialog>
Additional benefit of having :dialog in the update is that it will update the entered name as well everytime you change it.

Keep p:dialog open when validation failed

I have a simple page with data table. Above the table theres a button to add a new table row. This button opens up a pop up form with the registration form. The object which is being created in that form has a bean validation set. Now when I submit an invalid form, the data is not added, a message is created and the pop up window is closed.
My problem is that I want to keep the pop up window open in case the validation is not passed.
The pop up window code:
<p:dialog header="New company registration" widgetVar="cmpRegDialog" modal="true" showEffect="fade" hideEffect="fade" resizable="false">
<p:outputPanel id="cmpRegistration" style="text-align:center;">
<h:panelGrid id="cmpRegistrationGrid" columns="3" columnClasses="label,value" cellpadding="5">
<p:outputLabel for="cmpNameR" value="Name:"/>
<p:inputText id="cmpNameR" value="#{companyBean.newCompany.name}" />
<p:message for="cmpNameR" />
<p:outputLabel for="cmpAddressR" value="Address:"/>
<p:inputText id="cmpAddressR" value="#{companyBean.newCompany.address}" />
<p:message for="cmpAddressR" />
<p:outputLabel for="cmpIcoR" value="ICO:"/>
<p:inputText id="cmpIcoR" value="#{companyBean.newCompany.ico}" />
<p:message for="cmpIcoR" />
<p:commandButton value="Submit" styleClass="secondary-btn flat" action="#{companyBean.registerNewCompany()}" update=":companyRegistrationForm :companiesOverviewForm"/>
<p:commandButton value="Reset" update="cmpRegistrationGrid" process="#this" style="margin-right:10px; width: auto;" styleClass="indigo-btn" >
<p:resetInput target="cmpRegistrationGrid" />
</p:commandButton>
</h:panelGrid>
</p:outputPanel>
</p:dialog>
Yep just add this to your "Submit" button oncomplete="if (!args.validationFailed) PF('#cmpRegDialog').hide();"
<p:commandButton value="Submit"
styleClass="secondary-btn flat"
action="#{companyBean.registerNewCompany()}"
update=":cmpRegistration :companiesOverviewForm"/>
oncomplete="if (!args.validationFailed) PF('#cmpRegDialog').hide();"
Basically only close the dialog if there was no validation failure. NOTE: Make sure not to update="" the form enclosing the dialog or else your dialog will close every time. You should only update the panel inside the dialog "cmpRegistration" like I have done above.

JSF Required Field only call message if i leave them

I have a problem with the JSF validation. I have the following form - only the first inputfield is required. So if I leave them empty and click on the primefaces calendar field - JSF render the whole form and of course I got a message that the field is required.
So I need a solutions that the field only call the blur event or required message when I leave the field not when I click another field etc.
<h:form>
<p:growl id="msg" showDetail="true" />
<b:panelGrid col-spans="4,8" columns="2" id="inputPanel">
<h:outputLabel value="ID*"></h:outputLabel>
<b:inputText value="#{managedBean.avsId}" required="true"
update="msg" onblur="ajax:managedBean.checkDublicates()"></b:inputText>
<h:outputLabel value="Legal Form"></h:outputLabel>
<b:switch animate="true" on-text="natural" offColor="danger"
onColor="success" off-text="forensic"
value="#{managedBean.legalform}">
</b:switch>
<h:outputLabel value="Date"></h:outputLabel>
<p:calendar value="#{managedBean.date}" pattern="dd.MM.yyyy">
<f:converter converterId="timestampConverter" />
</p:calendar>
<h:outputLabel value="Note" style="margin-top:5%;"></h:outputLabel>
<b:inputTextarea style="margin-top:5%;"
value="#{managedBean.note}"></b:inputTextarea>
</b:panelGrid>
<b:commandButton value="apply" look="success"
style="width:100%;" action="#{managedBean.create()}"
update="#form" />
</h:form>

use <p:commandbutton> in <p:datatable> to show a <p:dialog>

Hello I am trying to implement some primefaces commandbuttons in a p:datatable. My need is almost identical to this post:
f:setPropertyActionListener not invoked
Basically I need to have a column of buttons in a , click on one button will pass the object of the current row to the bean, and a dialog will pop out, showing some information of the chosen object.
The following is the relevant code:
<f:view>
<body>
<h:form id="theForm">
<p:dataTable id="testFailures" value="#{testDetails.report.failures}" var="failure"
styleClass="baseTable">
<p:column id="requestColumn">
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Request" id="requestHeaderText" />
</f:facet>
<p:commandButton value="Detail" update="requestDialog"
oncomplete="PF('dlg1').show();" type="button">
<f:setPropertyActionListener
target="#{testDetails.selectedFailure}" value="#{failure}" />
</p:commandButton>
<h:message for="requestDialog" />
<p:dialog id="requestDialog" header="Request Dialog"
widgetVar="dlg1" dynamic="true">
<h:outputText value="#{selectedFailure.request}" />
</p:dialog>
</p:column>
</p:dataTable>
</h:form>
<h:message for="theForm" />
<h:message for="responseDialog" />
<p:dialog id="responseDialog" header="Request Dialog"
widgetVar="dlg2" dynamic="true">
<h:form>
<h:outputText value="#{selectedFailure.request}" />
</h:form>
</p:dialog>
</body>
</f:view>
I tried to put the dialog in different positions (see my "dlg1" and "dlg2"). But neither works. No dialog showing. does not show anything either. And I don't see any error message in the browser's console window. (I think there is a exclamation warning).
I have tried debug mode, and set method for the property "selectedFailure" is not called.
Try to remove type="button" from your commandButton and it should work. Also dialogs should not be placed inside dataTables so the position of "dlg2" is more correct.

Validator is called but error message is not displayed

when i click on the command button. validate method is getting called but the error message is not getting displayed..
here is my code..
<h:form id="form">
<h:body>
<p:panel style="width:500px">
<h:outputLabel for="year" value="Select Year: *" style="font-weight:bold" />
<p:selectOneMenu id="year" value="#{leaveBean.year}">
<f:selectItem itemLabel="Select One" itemValue="null" />
<f:selectItems value="#{leaveBean.yearDTO}" var="currentUser" itemValue="#{currentUser.name}" itemLabel="#{currentUser.name}" />
<f:validator validatorId="LeaveCardValidator" />
</p:selectOneMenu>
</p:panel>
<p:commandButton value="Submit" action="#{leaveController.leaveCard}" update="updateList,updateDetails" id="button"/>
<h:message for="year" style="color:red"/>
You seem to expect that JSF auto-updates the <h:message> on every ajax request. This is untrue. Perhaps you're confusing with PrimeFaces <p:messages> or <p:growl> which have each an autoUpdate attribute which enables you to tell them to auto-update themselves on every ajax request.
You really need to make sure that the <h:message> is covered by the ajax update. Just give it an ID
<h:message id="yearMessage" ... />
and include it in the client ID collection of the ajax update
<p:commandButton ... update="updateList updateDetails yearMessage" />
An alternative would be to replace <h:message> by <p:messages autoUpdate="true">.
Not sure where are the updateList and updateDetails are located but in the example give above you should use update="#form" instead or in addtion like this:
update="updateList updateDetails #form"
so that the form will be rendered again...
just use one of these :
update the whole form in order to update the content of
<h:message />
<p:commandButton value="Submit" action="#{leaveController.leaveCard}" update="#form" id="button"/>
or give the <h:message /> an id and id this id to the <p:commandButton/>
<h:message id="msg" for="year" style="color:red"/>
<p:commandButton value="Submit" action="#{leaveController.leaveCard}" update="updateList,updateDetails,msg" id="button"/>

primefaces dialog with inputtext as parameter

I would like to give the content of an inputText as a parameter to a function in a backing bean, I know that I could send the content in the backing bean, but it doesn't make much sense in my object model. I know that in the datatable, you can provide a function with the name of the "var", I thought I could use the same mechanism by passing the ID of the inputText, but it always sends null. Is there a way to do it ?
<p:dialog id="dialog" header="Reason for obsolescence" modal="true" widgetVar="dlg">
<h:form>
<h:panelGrid columns="2" cellpadding="5">
<h:outputLabel for="reason" value="Reason for obsolescence :" />
<p:inputText value="default" id="reason" required="true" label="reason" />
<p:commandButton id="provideReason" value="Ok" update=":form:tabView:table-metadata"
action="#{tableMetadataController.setSelectedObsolete(reason)}"
oncomplete="dlg.hide()"/>
</h:panelGrid>
</h:form>
</p:dialog>
Thanks
