Are there any ports of SLATEC? - programming-languages

Are there any other libraries of code implementing SLATEC? Finding a Fortran compiler is possible, but if there's anything else out there it'd be helpful.

A quick Google search reveals MATLAB port, apparently.

Example usage of Graphics.Win32.Dialogue (Haskell library)

I was browsing the Haskell Platform documentation and found this library.
It has only one line of explanation: A collection of FFI declarations for interfacing with Win32.
Is this library intended for building UI on windows ?

TL;DR: Yes, but don't. Ugliness alert.
It is indeed a set of bindings directly onto the win32 API, which means you can use it to make a UI, but you essentially have to write like a C programmer who doesn't have a toolkit.
It's not pretty, and I'd like to strongly recommend you use a toolkit like GTK or WX, or better still a Functional Reactional Programming library like reactive banana. Those libraries will give you much more idiomatic and eassy-to-understand Haskell code, and portability comes for free.
Occasionally some library you use doesn't feature something you need, whereupon you might want to delve into the windows API.
If you're determined to use this, you need a good Win32 API tutorial to learn from, together with a good reference whilst actually coding. There are loads out there if you google, and plenty of books, but none of them fit into a stackoverflow answer. Whilst I don't know of any Win32 API tutorials written in Haskell, using the bindings provided in Graphics.Win32 means all the function names match up with those in the online documentation, so you should be able to translate.

Easy and quick way to jump into node.js library from command line?

I'm trying build up good habits and a robust understanding of node/javascript.
Great answers to questions often come from Stackoverflow-ers who have taken time to look closely at the source code. (No surprise there, right?)
So, I'm getting myself into the habit of always checking out the underlying source code (cavaet - just javascript source code now, maybe C in the future).
Is there way from the command line (or with Node) to jump to the source-code of some object you are using? That is quickly go to the right file and line here:

I often just do a console.log(object.method.toString()); which simply prints the text of the function out, which is often good enough to learn about it.

Conky in C/C++ language

I want to change image of my desktop in mint :)
I wan to add sth like conky to desktop but I don't know LUA language :(
Is it possible to write it in C/C++ language? (for example I want to connect with forecast server to download some png with my weather and so on:)
Anyone knows how to do it?
I'm not sure that conky supports C/C++. But you can find many sample conky/lua scripts on google. It's not hard to find something close to what your looking for in appearance and in features, and simply modify the conky and lua scripts manually through trial and error. Its really quite easy to decipher. You can also check the conky man page for info:

Lua is extremely easy to learn, definitely a lot easier compared to C/C++. I suggest you check out the book Programming in Lua and learn the basics. If you really want to use C, you can always call C functions from Lua and do the real work there. It is explained in the book aswell ;-)

How do I start contributing to GNOME?

How do I start contributing to GNOME? I can program in C++ and Python, but have never touched C. I am not familiar with GTK even.
To be honest, I have no idea how GNOME works. All I have is a deep desire to somehow contribute to it.
Where do you recommend do I start? Any tutorial, mailing list or anything. I am ready to do the hard work, I just need a direction.
PS: I could have googled for the problem, but nothing beats the experience I have seen since Google returns SO for most of the questions.

If it's development, then:
learn C and GTK
checkout the source code
browse through the bug-tracker to find a reasonably sized task and ask for help of more senior committers to tell you what is at your level
fix it and submit a patch
wait for roses and glory

You may find it handy and useful by creating new extensions for Gnome shell.
There are a lot of extensions on https://extensions.gnome.org/. It requires JavaScript programming. It will also give you insights of how things work in Gnome.

also to note:
you don't have to learn C (even though it's a good idea). You can use PyGtk for GTK development in python (but i won't recommend that because of the speed of python).
GTK bindings for c++ also exit it's called gtkmm. It have binding for many other librays (Cluttermm, Cairomm, Pangomm).
there are bindings for A LOT of languages but native C is the best solution.
I would recommend learning vala because of it's ease of use but also because of it's speed (but that's just personal preference).

Linux user-space ELF loader

I need to do a rather unusual thing: manually execute an elf executable. I.e. load all sections into right places, query main() and call it (and cleanup then). Executable will be statically linked, so there will be no need to link libraries. I also control base address, so no worries about possible conflicts.
So, is there are any libraries for that?
I found OSKit and its liboskit_exec, but project seems to be dead since 2002.
I'm OK with taking parts of projects (respecting licenses, of course) and tailoring them to my need, but as I'm quite a noob in the linux world, I dont even know where to find those parts! :)
PS. I need that for ARM platform.
UPD Well, the matter of loading elfs seems to require some good knowledge about it (sigh), so I'm out to read some specs and manuals. And I think I will stick to bionic/linker and libelfsh. Thanks guys!

A quick apt-cache search suggests libelf1, libelfg0 and/or libelfsh0. I think the elfsh program (in the namesake package) might be an interesting practical example of how to use libelfsh0.

Google's Android, in it's "bionic" libc implementation, has a completely reimplemented ELF loader. It's reasonably clean, and probably a better source than gilbc if you're looking for something simple.
Take a look at libelf for reading the executable format. You are going to have trouble with this I think.
Sounds like, as you don't need libraries for anything, why not just mmap your executable, set data about various memory areas and jmp/b in?
I don't know if ARM has an NX-bit equivalent, but worth checking.
