Manually migrate MonoTouch project for XCode 4 using MonoDevelop - xamarin.ios

I just upgraded to the latest MonoDevelop (2.8) and upon opening MonoDevelop, it asked to migrate my MonoTouch project to allow it to use XCode 4 with MonoDevelop 2.8.
According to the dialog I was presented with, the process was irreversible so I just closed the dialog while I went to backup and read up more about the project migration process.
When I went back to actually migrate the project, I can't find anywhere in MonoDevelop to force the migration process (re-opening the project does not prompt me with the migration as it did the first time).
Anyone know a way to manually perform this migration in MonoDevelop?
Cheers.

"According to the dialog I was presented with, the process was irreversible so I just closed the dialog while I went to backup and read up more about the project migration process."
You could have always just clicked on 'Backup and Upgrade' which will perform a backup of all necessary files for you. If something dire should happen during the upgrade process, it's a simple case of copying the files back out of the backup directory and you'll be back to the way things were. This should be 100% safe.
Alan.
EDIT: I've also just fixed that bug. There was an if/else statement which defaulted to BackupAndMigrate if none of the valid options were hit, this was a bit silly in hindsight, it should've defaulted to DoNotMigrate. Your original project files were put in a directory called 'backup' in your project folder so you can easily undo the accidental migration :)

Can't rename resource (layout) files (Android Studio 3.0 Beta 3 is installed)

Beta 3 doesn't allow to rename resource files such as layout files. It does show the renaming dialog, but when trying to apply changes it reads the following error message:
Refactoring cannot be performed
File .../myapplication/R.java is read-only
Also I have Beta 2 version in a neighbor directory and renaming works perfect. Any ideas how to fix that?
UPD:
I reported the bug (#65079508), and now it is marked as a duplicate of 65032914 https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/65032914
So, the issue is even wider and if I understand it well the bug will be fixed in some coming version of the Studio.
UPD#2:
Beta 4 is released. The bug is still not fixed.
UPD#3
Fixed in Beta 5.
meh, just get rid of the generated files && then refactor.
Gradle --> app --> build --> clean.
I am experiencing the same issue on Android Studio 3.0 Beta 3. I fixed the problem by:
Exiting Android Studio
Navigating to the folder that the layout file is saved in (either CLI or GUI)
Rename the file to whatever you want the refactored file to be called.
Reopen Android Studio.
Obviously this forces you to have to manually refactor the references to the old file, but I tried about a dozen different things (changing R.java permissions, Gradle clean, invalidate cache, etc.) and none of them worked.
Anyone else who has this issue should submit this bug in Android Studio by using Help > Submit Feedback.
Also, is there a chance you might also be using multiple layouts folders like I am?
I've got the same issue.
I was solved this with
File --> Invalidate Caches and Restart --> Invalidate and Restart.
And than try to rename again.
Hope this help.
Happy coding :)
I was able to work around it temporarily by moving my R.java file into my src directory. For example, if you're package name is com.example.sample, move your R.java file from app/build/generated/source/r/debug/com/example/sample/R.java to app/src/main/java/com/example/sample/R.java. Be sure to delete it when you're finished refactoring, it will be regenerated during the build process.
Cleaning doesn't work for everything. For instance, renaming a view isn't possible because the R.java file is automatically regenerated. I tried disabling Instant Run, but that didn't help either. Eventually I had to rename the view manually in the layout file.
From the comments on the bug ticket at https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/65032914 the fix will be in the beta 5 release of Android Studio.

Getting "Gradle sync failed: Please use JDK 8 or newer" under version 3.3

I checked every thread related to that error. But I couldn't find the appropriate answer. I have additional error too. Check out the screenshots.
Posts I came across recommending fixing JDK pathing issues through "Switch IDE book JDK..." or "Project Structure".
For me, in Android Studio 3.0, "Project Structure" would no longer open, so I upgraded to 3.1. Afterwards, it still had the JDK version error, but now it let me open "Project Structure" from the "File" menu, where I was able to correct the JDK, SDK, and NDK locations and versions.
There were still several build errors after that, but clicking the recommended fix in the build output window eventually installed everything I needed. Once it managed to synchronize correctly, it also upgraded Gradle to version 4.4. That then required new build tools and so forth.
Though instructions directly, may not help everyone, but it points to configuration corruption. So, if you cannot just upgrade to get around it, I recommend making backup copies of your Android Studio settings (generally in your user's home directory like ~/.AndroidStudioX.Y), as well as your project .idea (generally in the root of your project), then deleting the originals. If that is still not enough, purge the configurations again and reinstall Android Studio.
Note: I was going back into an old project so several warnings about deprecated features being removed in 2018 had to be dealt with.
error window
Here's what worked for me!
1. First verify that your JDK is indeed higher than JDK8
jdk version
2. Press "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S" to open project structure
enter image description here
3. Then I selected "Use the embedded JDK"
4. Click OK and retry it.
That should solve it.
I was facing same problem, getting these two kinda errors:
SDK path should not contain white space.
Gradle sync failed. Please use JDK 8 or newer.
Solution for me was to set proper SDK path with no white space in path first and than choose JDK path. After setting path I've synced the project and tada it worked...
Thanks.

Eclipse Workspace not recognized after clean install

I just made a clean install, as I do every year, of my linux system (ubuntu) on my notebook.
I just wanted to open-up eclipse from my (old) workspace, where all my code from the past 12 months is - but eclipse doesn't show a single package!
My assumption is that I used an older version of eclipse up until yesterday before the clean install, and that the version I installed today is newer, thereby doesn't recognize my worksapce(s!). Is this assumption correct? if so, Does anyone know how I can figure out which version of Eclipse I was using when working on the old Workspace, so that I can download that exact same version again?
The absolut worst-case scenario would be to c/p all classes and packages manually into the new eclipse, but it's over a 1000 classes - so that might be too time-consumming.
An help would be greatly appreciated, since there actually are 2 projects from work in those workspaces... ^^
Well, after Downloading Eclipse Mars, I found a solution. Although switching workspaces, or even importing the old workspaces didn't work, I found out that if I started eclipse from the old workspace, even though package explorer would stay empty, it would suffice to define a new java project with the exact same name of one of the projects inside the old workspace, for eclipse to instantly load-up the docs contents.
This not as much a solution, then a work-around... but still, fixed the problem!

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when building my cloud project

When I build my solution with a bunch of cloud projects, I see one or more "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" messages in the output. When I try to run one of the cloud projects, I get the popup "There were build errors. Do you want to continue and run the last successful build", but there are no errors in the Error List and the same "Error: Object ref..." errors in the output.
When I click package on my cloud project I get a messagebox with "Object reference not set to an instance of an object", also when I right click -> properties on the project reference under "Roles" in the cloud project.
If I use the command line to build my solution with msbuild, I don't get the error.
I tried restarting Visual Studio as well as my PC. I also tried reinstalling Azure Tools (2.1) and then Visual Studio.
My colleague is now getting the same problem on Visual Studio 2013 RC.
Has anyone had the same problem?
I've searched, but only found people with problems when publishing, where the solution is to package manually.
I had the same problem. Right click on the cloud service project, unload the project. Reload it again.
Try removing the role from the cloud project, re-build solution (if there are errors please post them), then add the role back into the cloud project and re-build.
I had a similar issue when a publish exited out and I started receiving the 'Object not found' error. VS2013 (in my case) was reporting that 'diagnostics.wadcfg' was missing and had unusually stored this into a different directory.
By going into the project file (.ccproj) and removing the erroneous entry from the 'Project\ItemGroup\Content Include "\diagnostics.wadcfg" and reloading the project - everything kicked back into life.
Failing that, check a working project file against the offending project file for inconsistencies.
You don't have to remove your roles and add them back in again, which is really annoying because you have to preserve the contents of your cscfg and csdef files. Instead, close Visual Studio, delete the solution's .suo file and open the solution back up again.
I wanted to let everyone know I was dealing with a very similar situation, albeit with a different version of the Azure SDK (1.8). I have many projects with Cloud Services that I have created built numerous times and then all of sudden could no longer open them. Attempting to open the Cloud Service configuration UI resulted in the “Object not set to a reference” error. I could open the actual XML file, but not the GUI interface.
I attempted to reinstall the 1.8 SDK and tools numerous times, as well as VS 2012 to no avail. I finally tried installing the latest SDK (2.2) and now I can open the projects. Not sure what changed in my system prior to this but glad I was finally able to open my projects again!
I also had this error when building. Projects within the solution would build independently but building the entire solution failed.
I have learnt usually these types of issues are caused by invalid azure role or configuration files. In my case it turns out a .cscfg config file rename on another branch was merged with my branch but it didn't rename the file – therefore the .ccproj file in my branch was incorrectly referring to the new name but only the old filename existing in the solution. After manually editing the .ccproj with the new filename I closed/reopened the solution and things started working.
I had a similar issue with VS2013 express after creating a view in my MVC project.
I reverted the project with git, but this did not solve the issue. I also checked the project out to a different location on my pc, but this did not solve the issue. I was able to check the project out on my laptop without seeing this issue.
In the end, I undinstalled VS2013 express and all of it's counterparts and re-installed. This solved the issue.
I had this bug (but not using a cloud project). Turns out the character encoding that Perforce (P4V) was using was wrong, it should have been UTF-8. After changing to UTF-8 and re-syncing the code, Visual Studio was able to find and compile the project just fine.
Maybe a hint: I got the same error message, when compiling VS2013 Dot42 project - realized it was caused by assigning concrete value of some inner type (in my case Enum) to INullable variable:
private SomeClass.SomeEnum? _var1;
...
_var1 = SomeClass.SomeEnum.XY; // causes compilation error
The solution was, not to use INullable:
private SomeClass.SomeEnum _var1;
None of these answer helped me. I decided to reinstall the Azure tools, and noticed that I had more than one version installed. I uninstalled the old versions, reinstalled the latest version, and this fixed it for me.
I got the same message while publishing our project too, though in Visual Studio 2010.
For me, deleting all the files from bin folder worked.

Importing DSpace in MyEclipse

M building a project from SVN and importing the DSpace in My Eclipse 2013.
It starts scanning of projects and stops at some after 90 or 93%...
It does scans for further files and stops there only.
Kindly Help..
I'm not familiar with DSpace and can't tell from your question whether the scanning is related to that or not. We have had some issues with a few systems whereby the task that scans for projects to migrate from earlier releases takes a lot of system resource. There are fixes for this coming in the SR1 release, which is due imminently. However, the scanning can be turned off with this procedure:
Click on Window->Preferences then go to General->Startup and Shutdown. Deselect MyEclipse Migration Support and click OK. Now restart MyEclipse.
I hope this helps. For further support, please use the MyEclipse Forums.
