Name of control for toggle boxes in sharepoint editor part - sharepoint

I'm trying to modify the EditorPart controller for my web part. Basically what I want is to have my custom controls inside a box like the standard properties that can toggle between visible and hidden.
I've been googling for a while, but I cannot seem to find an answer.
Just to clarify: I know I can use the Category property to accomplish this when adding web part properties directly to the web part, but I've extended the EditorPart controller and so I don't think I can simply add [Category("Feed settings")] to the TextBox and LiteralControls I'm creating (correct?).

What you'd need for a standard property is to mark it with the Category attribute:
[Category("My Category")]
public string FeedQuery { get; set; }
(You'll need to add the System.ComponentModel namespace to your class file).
For editor parts it is not so simple. It appears that you can't add them to the standard categories. It is possible to style the editor part to resemble the OOB panels as shown here

Is there a way to prevent creation of a data class item in C# WindowsForms UserControl

If I create a UserControl, to create and edit an instance of a data class e.g. Person in C# WindowsForms (call it PersonControl), the framework automatically adds an instance of Person in PersonControl.Designer with some default values for the properties and fills the item controls with those values. This behavior has a number of side effects which I would like to avoid.
Question: is there a defined way to prevent creation of a data class instance in UserControl.Designer?
I think you missing the DesignerSerializationVisibility attribute. If you have a custom control every public property that you add will automatically be serialized. You can use this attribute to disable the serialization for a property. I also recommend to add the Browsable attribute which will hide the property from the designer. If you want more control over serialization, like you want to serialize only when another property is set to true you can create a special named method which will then called by the designer Defining Default Values with the ShouldSerialize and Reset Methods. Proper Kentico object for non-user-editable block of static html/javascript

The Situation: I've got a mid-sized chunk of html/javascript that contains an authentication script/input (it's a text input, radio control, and a combo box and a few buttons). What it is is less important than the concept that it's a mass of static client side code that the marketing department can pretty easily accidentally the whole thing.
The Desire: I want the users to be able to add it as a whole to a page, but not be able to modify it. When something needs to change, I want to change it in one place and have it be changed on all the pages.
What I've Tried: Widget with a default text. It works, but feels wrong. Users can edit it, and if they do when I fix it one place it doesn't propagate to all the instances. I'm a bit of a Kentico noob, but it seems like there should be a better way to do this.
Also note: I'm using portal engine if that makes a difference.
A widget is the proper usage. What you make your widget inherit from is the key in this case. I'd suggest creating a new widget based on a static HTML webpart. This way you can set the static HTML markup and hide the property from the content editor on the front end. You can do this by going to the Properties tab of the widget and setting the visibility of the field on the form. Don't delete the field, just hide it. It should be a checkbox that says hide on public form or editing form.

As I read through my answer and comments, I realized I meant to say clone the static HTML webpart and set its default text to your javascript. Then create a widget based on that cloned webpart. The text will reside in the web part and will allow you to update it in one place later, if needed.
I will not do it this way because you will be not able to make changes in the future. You can better create a new webpart this can be an empty webpart and then create a custom layout. In this layout you can put you're code. In this way you can always change you're code in the future and then it will be changed on all the places where the widget is placed.
I'd use a new widget based on the Static HTML webpart (make the field read only or hide it as Brenden mentioned), but store the data in a new custom setting.

In this case I think it makes sense to create a custom web part to store all your code in it and use it that way. If you want to achieve it without creating a custom web part, you have to store the code in some non-web part and not widget specific object. I like the suggestion of creating a custom setting. You can then access this custom setting via a macro. This macro can be used as a default property of a newly created web part (inherited e.g. from the static text web part, you'd use the text property). You may as well create a widget out of it. Another approach is to use Kentico localization keys as a workaround. you can create a key in the Localization application and access it again, via a macro, e.g. {?customkey.myhtml?}. The approach with a custom setting however sounds cleaner to me.
This syntax should be working to access a custom setting value via macro:

Creating a navigation menu item in Orchard

I have written an Orchard Module and would like an item to appear in a Navigation list when the module is Enabled. Ideally, I would like to be able to remove the item when the Module is disabled.
Where should I hook into to for when the module is enabled and disabled?
How do I programmatically add a menu item to an already existing Navigation?
You can implement the IMenuProvider interface for this. An example implementation might look something like this:

This will appear on all menus on the front end. You may want to put in the name of the menu you are targeting if you know for sure that is what it is called (default in Orchard is "Main Menu", people don't generally change it to be honest). This could be a little brittle, so you may want it customizable, either with a site setting or you could create a part that you attach to the menu content type that lets the admin specify whether to show your menu items on the said menu.
An alternative approach would be to hook into the modules enable event using IFeatureEventHandler and using the content manager to create menu items with urls and adding them to a specified Menu. I don't really recommend this approach; you lose control of the menu items (e.g. to update a url), they can be removed from the menu accidentally, you have to know the name of the Menu you are adding them to, you are more limited (cant do permissions checks etc.).
I assume you are talking about showing up on the front end. If you talking about the admin menu then check out pretty much any module for a file generally called AdminMenu.cs, plenty of examples :)
The question doesn't specify what the module does so I guess we're to assume that it creates a content type. In that case you have (at least) two options:
In the Content Type's Content Definition go to Add Parts and add the Menu part. This will allow you to add a content item to a menu from the item's content editor.
From the Navigation menu choose the appropriate Menu and select add a Content Menu Item. Note that the content type must be set as "listable" in Content Definition in order for the items to be listed as a choice.
Disabling the module should remove the item from the navigation in either case.

How to display the designer with user controls

I have added a User Control to my project. After having added it, I have extended it to the "tabPage" class (since I want it to be a tabPage):

It doesn't matter where I place the label and the textbox, I am not able to change their size/position etc.
Does anyone know how to reset the normal designer?
I think I have found a work-around.
Change the class from tabPage to UserControl. The Winform designer will display as usual;
Make your changes to the form;
When it's done, re-change the class from UserControl to tabPage.
Like this, you will be able to build up visually your custom user control and to give it a specific type (such as tabPage) just after.

Is there a way to access the label text in a UIView?

When I add a view in Interface Builder, I often go into the Identity Inspector, scroll down to the "Document" section, and edit the "Label" field. This makes it easier to tell one view from another in the "Objects' browser. But I was wondering: Is there a way to access that text from the controller for my view?
I suppose you cannot.
But if you want to access something about UIView in both code and Interface Builder, you can set TAG value as property of UIView.
This is usefully for me in debugging process.
