We have the standard Sharepoint site for our group at work and was wondering if we could add into the title bar where our group name is (like to the right of it), or above the announcements/calender widgets a
picture that resembles our group
and a mission statement right next to it
Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks.
If you have the appropriate permissions, you can edit the page (More likely the master page) for the site using SharePoint Designer which is free from Microsoft. If you upload the image you want to a document library you can use that url for the img src.

But a simpler solution would be to edit the page, add a new web part and choose the Content Editor Web Part where you can put your mission statement and an image (that you previously uploaded to a document library).
You don't specify which version of SharePoint you are using, but changing the logo of a site hasn't changed much since the 2003 version. Office.Microsoft.com shows the user perspective of changing a logo. You could change the same setting through the API.

I want to customize the SharePoint 2013 online(office 365) "About me" linked page (personimmersive.aspx) to a custom look and feel.
Even clicking on any SPUser name, for ex in a list item modified by is "John Smith" if we click on it goes to about me page.
This page resides under mysite but I cannot see this page is SharePoint 2013 designer to edit, but modifying SharePoint pages in designer is not always the best way.
Can I just create a new page and redirect all Profile page request to that custom page?
IF I create app parts and edit the page I cannot edit the top portion of the page.

add/remove the web parts. Now they are fixed, with no ability to move

We had removed the Activity Feed web part previously because we were
using Yammer newsfeeds and group feeds embedded throughout the site,
and this part always showed “No activities”. Now this is back again,
with no way to remove it, short of editing the page in SharePoint

There is personImmersive.aspx in SharePoint Designer, you should be able to find it in All Files. Just make sure you connect to [your_domain]-my.sharepoint.com instead of [your_domain].sharepoint.com.
you can't customize the page completely.However you can add custom web part and custom css to change the look and feel to a great extent.
#tiago duarte you can still remove the activity web part.This can be done using script editor webpart and hiding the complete block/div.
I am trying to get a solution for my issue. I have a set of HTML CSS and Images, which I want to apply to my sharepoint portal as a part of branding.
My concern is I want to make my design as WSP or any other kind of solution so that it can be installed in any sharepoint 2010 portal so that the user can switch back between actual sharepoint design and this custom design.
In short I have a custom HTML design which I need to implement to any sharepoint website, this design can be turned On or Off by the administrator just using the portal/Site screens.

SharePoint branding is always a tricky job. The safest way to achieve your goal is to create a separate masterpage with your new branding. So the user can choose to apply the default branding with the default masterpage and when he wants another branding your customized masterpage can be used.
Create a new SharePoint project and add the needed css inside a mapped layouts folder. Then you can reference your own css file in the new masterpage. Watch out with changing the masterpage, because it contains a lot of placeholders which will render different parts of the page. Try to work around these placeholders and make sure the masterpage works in different scenario's (ex. that the layout isn't broken when page is in edit mode, ...)
Once you are finished with the design, the user can use it by applying it in the settings. Another option to make it easier for the enduser, is to create a control that is a switch to apply your masterpage (ex. with custom action).

The way I modify sharepoint, is as I do with almost every other CMS out there combined with the power of asp .Net (Remember that as CMS' go sharepoint is a poor solution if the only thing you want is a portal. Sharepoint is first and foremost a BI Solution).
When you edit your site in sharepoint designer (Site Action -> Edit in sharepoint designer) you can see a whole lot of options.
Here you can change the default masterpage to accomodate the look and feel of your site. You will do most of the hiding stuff here (those you don't want to be seen giving them the visibility=false attribute). Here you can also include a new CSS (place it in site assets) where you can override already existing css files.
From this point on, you will be able to add web pages to the site, that will conform to the masterpage, and thus you can use all the sharepoint power (web parts and even embedded html code) keeping the look and feel you have implemented on your master page.
So what you need to do is:
Modify master page in sharepoint designer
Add css files in site assets and include them in your masterpage
Add any other aspx pages or custom web parts that you will refer to in the sharepoint site
Create web pages with sharepoint assets, web parts or custom code
Enable anonymous access for the people you want to view your portal without authenticating (Bear in mind that there are some sharepoint controls that can only be viewed by logged in users)
There are multiple ways of customizing it.
My perfered way is CSS.

I'd like to ask if you came up with a solution that will allow for subsites to access a centralized document library at the parent level. I'm still trying to no avail. I've tried doc library templates, views, Doc Center and the best method i have OOTB is a page view web part on the subsites page display a view from the parents library. (by the way to remove the ribbon, append ?IsDlg=1 to the url and the ribbons hidden) cool tip. Say will you give be a Y/N on a solution that will allow one to keep a set of documents in the doc center and surface them in the sub-site.
There are another option without such hard coding. You can open any view of your document library, as mentioned earlier AllItems.aspx for example with SharePoint Designer. Open it for editing in advanced mode (there are option when you click right mouse button on file in SP Designer). Then just point mouse cursor inside web part and chose in ribbon web parts, Add to Site gallery, see the picture. Fill in name of new web part. That is all, now you can add this web part on any page on any web site from webpart gallery through the user interface or through the SP Designer by clicking Insert, Web Part in the ribbon on any page.
You can do this by editing the AllItems.aspx (or other view page) and scraping off the WebPartPages:ListViewWebPart and pasting it into a page on the subsite.
This will give you an error "List does not exits The page you selected contains a list that does not exist."
Then you need to get the WebID for the root site (where you took the ListViewWebpart from and replace the part of the webpart that looks like this:

with (for example)

I have to add a "Content Editor" web part to a list view. The "Content Editor" is required to implement some java script and a html textbox.
The problem is that after adding the web part to the list view the dropdown to switch your current view gets lost. It doesnt matter where you add the web part or if you try it with the designer or IE.
Do you have any ideas on how to solve this? Or is there another way to implement java script into a listview without adding a new web part?
