How can I check the version of a Liferay instance? - liferay

I have several instances of Liferay Portal (bundled with Apache Tomcat 5.5.x/6.x) and I need to know how to check the version of those Liferay instances.
Thanks in advance.

As an administrator, go to:
Control Panel -> Configuration -> Server Administration
The version is in the information banner at the top of the "Resources" tab.

You can also check that information in the console log when starting up the server or checking the the headers of a HTTP request

Look at class com.liferay.portal.kernel.util.ReleaseInfo located in tomcat/common/lib/portal-kernel.jar. There is a bunch of static methods for this purpose. You will find the following property: static String version.

If you can get the database, which is one:
select * from Release_;
there is a column called buildNumber, it can have a value like 6005 or 5203
The other way, with the apache tomcat startup, you will see in the catalina.out log file:
Starting Liferay Portal Community Edition 6.0.5 CE (Bunyan / Build 6005 / August 16, 2010)

You can also check Liferay version Using Chrome Web tools

In the enterprise edition, in addition to the installed package (Dima's answer) you can update Liferay using service packs. Here is how to know what service pack level you have installed:
cd $LIFERAY/patching-tool
./patching-tool.sh info
It will show something like this:
Loading product and patch information...
Product information:
* installation type: binary
* build number: 7010
* service pack version:
- available SP version: 5
- installable SP version: 5
* patching-tool version: 2.0.6
* time: 2018-01-31 08:37Z
* plugins: Demo 201802, Space 1-2 Columns 50/50 Limited, Space 50/50 Width Limited, Space Program, Space Program Theme
Currently installed patches: de-30-7010
Available patches: de-22-7010, de-30-7010
Detailed patch list:
[ -] de-22-7010 :: Currently not installed; Won't be installed: de-30 contains the fixes included in this one :: Built for LIFERAY
[*I] de-30-7010 :: Installed; Will be installed. :: Built for LIFERAY
The important line is Currently installed patches: de-30-7010.
Then you know that you have Service Pack 30.

In plugins->build.properties.At bottom line of tht file ,we have a property called lp.version
which contains liferay version as lp.version=6.0.5
Hope it helps!!

How to create Web Application in Apache Netbeans 10?

Just I've downloaded Netbeans 10. While creating new project, I'm not getting option 'Web Application'.
How to do it?
Is there GUI design builder for web applications in Apache Netbeans 10?
Unlike some earlier NetBeans releases such as 8.2, Apache NetBeans 10.0 does not support web development by default, and that is why you do not see an option for Java Web under the Categories listed within the Project Wizard. See What's Happened to My Favorite NetBeans Plugins? for additional background information.
However, web development can still be performed using Apache NetBeans 10.0. You just need to install some plugins first:
Go to Tools > Plugins and select the Available Plugins tab.
Ensure that the entries are sorted in ascending Category order. Click the Category column header to do that if necessary.
Scroll down and locate the entries for the Category named Java Web and EE.
Under the Install column check all of those entries:
Click the Install button to install those checked Java Web and EE plugins.
Follow the instruction for the Installer wizard. The requested plugins will be downloaded and installed, and you will be invited to click Finish to restart NetBeans.
After the restart select File > New Project.... There should be new entries in the Categories list named Java Web and Java EE, allowing you to create web and EE applications:
Troubleshooting:
If there are no entries for Java Web and EE on the Available Plugins tab then update your question with a screen shot of Tools > Plugins > Settings.
If the plugins appear to install correctly but Java Web and Java EE are still not available under the Project Wizard after a restart then update your question with:
A screen shot of Tools > Plugins > Installed, with the User Installed Plugins entry selected.
The recent content of the NetBeans log (View > IDE Log).
If you're not seeing the Java Web and EE categories, you need to go into Settings and make sure Netbeans 8.2 Plugin Portal is checked like in the image below.

Monotouch setting the Application Bundle Version

I'm trying to set the Application version for my MonoTouch project, but it doesn't seem like I have found the right location.
I've tried setting the version to 2.0.0 under:
the Solution>General>Main Settings>Version field
the Project>General>Main Settings>Version field (which can inherit from the solution)
the Info.plist>iOS Application Target>Version field
If I check the version using
string currentVersion = NSBundle.MainBundle.InfoDictionary["CFBundleVersion"].ToString();
I only ever get back 1.0 as the version. Am I missing a place to set the application version, or do I need to use a different method for checking the BundleVersion?
Here is the version info I am running
MonoDevelop 3.0.5
Installation UUID: 554868b3-3202-4955-bf88-38a3e5949a79
Runtime:
Mono 2.10.9 (tarball)
GTK 2.24.10
GTK# (2.12.0.0)
Package version: 210090011
Apple Developer Tools:
Xcode 4.5.1 (1842)
Build 4G1004
Monotouch: 6.0.6 (Evaluation)
Doing the same change in my own Info.plist file works perfectly with the code you provided, i.e. I do get the expected 2.0.0 string. I also tried it inside the iOS simulator since you're using the evaluation version.
I do have newer versions of the softwares - but they are not very different and I do not recall anything changed in those area.
Can you look (and maybe add it in your question) the content of your Info.plist ? it should be an XML file (default format used by MonoDevelop) and should have your 2.0.0 string inside it.
If that does not work please zip a small sample that do so and attach it to a bug report as there might be something that does not, always, get updated ?!?

Eclipse Indigo for Java EE + Maven plugin = the Maven menu does not appear in import and preference

I have used Indigo Java (not Java EE) and the maven plugin is already installed. Or at least, I know I have the possibility to import a Maven Project without installing anything.
But then I wanted to use Eclipse Indigo for Java EE developers. This version does not have maven already installed. I can not import a maven project. So I decided to install the m2e plugin.
And I have tried to install it many different ways (information on theses sites):
http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/wiki/WorkingWithMaven
http://googlewebtoolkit.blogspot.com/2011/09/working-with-maven-and-requestfactory.html
http://code.google.com/p/listwidget
I also tried to use the Eclispe market place for the installation of the plugins. The installation process does not fail. But the Maven menu in import and Windows->Preference does not appear inside Indigo Java EE?
NB: I am running Windows 7, 64 bit edition
Here's what I did in Indigo.
Go to Help>>Install New Software
Paste the below URL over there
http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo/
You will see a list below. From the list expand "Collaboration" and you can see m2e - maven integration for eclipse.
select that and click next. Got one error in between but it's working now.
This software repository, http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo/, provides access to the software for the Eclipse indigo release. It contains code from the release, June 2011, and SR1, September 2011 and SR2, February 2012.
The repository site URL is typically pre-populated in the list of software repositories when you install the Eclipse Platform or SDK.
For more information about installing or updating software, see the Eclipse Platform Help.
There is also a collection of handy, downloadable all-in-one zip files available for many interests and platforms. Many people find these all-in-one packages the easiest way to get started.
I,m using Eclipse INDIGO.
try this link. It works for me.

Current feature pack which is installed in WCS

Is there a way to find out the current installed feature pack and fix pack version in WCS?
The versionInfo.bat does not give me the sufficient information related to it!
Your versionInfo.bat should tell you that:
in the section Installed Products you should see something like this:
Installed Products
----------------------
Name IBM Websphere Commerce
ID 7.0.0.6
Build Level wc.toolkit.be
(...)
the 4th number of id is the fix pack number in this case is FixPack 6
if you have installed Feature pack you should see another Installed Product section below:
Installed Product
------------------
Name IBM Websphere Commerce
Version 5.0.0.0
ID wc.fep5
(...)
that is the 5th Feature pack installed
If you have none of this that means that you have no fix or feature pack installed
You can also see the versions of installed packages using
Start->All Programs-> IBM Installation Manager->View Installed Packages.
or
using this file
C:\ {IBM RAD Installed Path}\IBM\Installation Manager\installed.xml

Problems creating a Java Mobile Application project

I have installed the Netbeans 6.7 IDE with Java ME included, but cannot create a Mobile Application project from the Java ME category. When I select the project type the wizard stops at "Finding Feature" with the message:
Not all requested modules can be enabled:
[StandardModule:org.netbeans.modules.mobility.end2end.kig jarFile:C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.7\mobility8\modules\org-netbeans-modules-mobility-end2end-kit.jar.
I am attempting to run this on Vista Home Premium. I have tried to run the IDE as Administrator with no luck.
I am at a loss for where to go next as I cannot seem to find any information regarding this issue. Even if you don't have the solution any insight into this error message would be helpful.
I am unable so far to get the project running via the Netbeans IDE install. I have, for the time being, installed the Java ME SDK which includes a very stripped down version of the Netbeans IDE for mobile development.
I originally had some issues starting the SDK as well on Vista. The IDE reported that it could not connect to the device manager on localhost. After some searching I found this link: Java ME SDK Startup Problem which suggests changing the hosts file localhost entry from IPv6 to IPv4. The fix worked perfectly and I can now compile and run code in the emulator.
This is not an optimal solution as the SDK does not include the visual design tools, however I am able to get a basic project going in the mean time.
I have given up on the 6.7 version and have instead located and installed 6.5.1. This previous version has been working just fine and seems to do everything I need.
I ran into the exact same error today while installing NB 6.8 beta. To resolve it we need to install two plugins:
Java Web Applications (as mentioned by Ali above) and
Sun Java System Web Server 7.0
Note that these two are part of the Category called "Java Web and EE" hence the confusion that we need to install Glassfish App Server. But we need these two plugins because they are required for debugging using breakpoints in emulator. Netbeans runs a web server when we do breakpoint based debugging.
Also note that the Java Web applications needs SOAP Web Services and JavaScript Debugger plugins to run and so these plugins are also installed when you try to install it.
You also need to install "Java Web Applications" plugin.
Tools->Plugins->Available Plugins
If the module is present, you should try unzipping it to check its content makes sense.
You should also be able to rebuild it from Netbeans sources.
You can also try to figure out why this happens by debugging the module loader inside Netbeans from its sources, using another IDE, presumably the latest version of Netbeans you can find without the issue.
If the module is missing, you might want to get the missing jar file from an installation of a previous version of Netbeans, see if it is compatible.
6.5.1 isn't missing any module.
back in version 5.5, the mobility module had to be downloaded and installed separately from the main IDE.
If you want to consider using Eclipse for developing your J2ME app...I've written a post related to that some time ago: here.
