I've been trying to programmatically copy custom content type and its custom columns from one web to another for some time now, and I always get different errors or exceptions every time. After yet more tries, I received more strange and cryptic exception from Sharepoint after clicking onto a newly copied custom column in a custom content type. I checked the logs, and this is what I got:
Unknown SPRequest erorr occurred. More information: 0x80070002
Unable to locate the xml-definition for FieldName with FieldId 'guid without braces', exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFF (E_UNEXPECTED)) ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException...

It failed to find quite a few content type schema. I'm confused with what Sharepoint is trying to do here, and why a simple process of copying a custom content type from one web to another just wouldn't work in contrast to the information found on the web e.g. this.
Appreciate any help to get over this problem. Thanks.
Content types are defined in XML files that has to reside on the file system (in the 12 hive). If you want to copy a content type from a web application to another, you must make sure that these definitions are also copied.
I would recommend you to install the feature that contains these custom content types on each of your target web applications.

While multiple lot Allocation I am getting error:
Unable to cast object of type 'PX.Objects.IN.INLotSerialStatus'
to type 'PX.Objects.IN.Overrides.INDocumentRelease.LotSerialStatus'.
First unpublish all customization and try to reproduce the issue.
If it goes away re-publish customizations one by one until you find the one causing the cast error.
Review the code of the customization for all references to INLotSerialStatus and LotSerialStatus. Also look at Acumatica traces to find more details about the error.
A LotSerialStatus object is also a INLotSerialStatus because LotSerialStatus inherits from INLotSerialStatus. This is a valid assignment.
The inverse is not true, maybe there is an invalid assignment for which no cast is possible in the source code of the customization:

I'm on Orchard 1.7.2 and I get this error everywhere in my site (which I assume causes the load times to slow down):
Orchard.DisplayManagement.Implementation.DefaultDisplayManager - NullReferenceException thrown from Action`1 by System.Action`1[[Orchard.DisplayManagement.Implementation.ShapeDisplayingContext, Orchard.Framework, Version=1.7.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]]
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
So I traced the issue and found the function public string Slug within TermPart.cs (line 16).
public string Slug {
get { return this.As<AutoroutePart>().DisplayAlias; }
set { this.As<AutoroutePart>().DisplayAlias = value; }
}
I found out that this.As<AutoroutePart>() is null, and checking out the parts of the Content Item (via this.ContentItem.Parts), there is no AutoroutePart. Since it is null, a null reference exception is thrown when trying to retrieve the property DisplayAlias.
See image below:
Is this a known issue? Any workarounds? Is this what's causing my site to slow down?
Although having these exceptions definitely has an impact on performance I doubt it could cause a noticeable slowdown.
The exception is caused by Taxonomies's TermPart depending on AutoroutePart; i.e. if your content item doesn't use AutoroutePart (what should be pretty rare IMO) then you'll see this exception. Making TermPart depend on Autoroute is a questionable design decision (at least it could use IAliasAspect instead). Please open a bug report about the issue because this should be addressed somehow.
In the meantime you could attach AutoroutePart to the content type in question to get rid of the exceptions.
WHen I start VS2012 I always get an exception tellng me to look at ActivityLog.xml. Here is what I see- useless to me. Hoping someone else has seen this before.
Also - VS2012 eats 100% of the CPU on the machine at time. Hoping the two are related and fixable.

Is your VSCommands extension up to date?
There was a compatibility issue which could produce similar stack trace, and it was fixed in latest release.
I have a new Orchard CMS 1.4.2 installation that I have added a custom module to.
The custom module has 3 custom parts that are basically copies of the bodypart ContentPart.
I don't know much about the bodypart (or Orchard...), and I note that the mycustompartrecord class derives from:
ContentPartVersionRecord
One question is that I don't know why.
The other question is that running the site, I get the following error after updating the text of one of the custom "bodypart" content parts.

I really have no idea what is the cause of this. It seems to have no negative effect, on adding content. I suspect it is something to do with the way I am using these bodypart copies, but I am not sure.
NOTE:
As discussed in a previous thread (See details here), I have previously had another error, when using a CLEAN source code installation (ie, no modules, nothing custom) of Orchard v.1.4.2. The error is as follows:
Before installing any modules, and with a clean install, I was getting the following error:

The error has only appeared once in the logs, and doesn't seem to affect the system thereafter. Don't know if this is relevant to the autoroutepart error.
Unfortunately I can't answer your main question.
As for ContentPartVersionRecord: when you need a part to be versioned (i.e. saving a new copy of its content with every modification), you need to use this. BodyPart is a case of versioned content parts.
The SQL exception you're getting is I think completely harmless, as it's expected on setup. This query is used to check if the DB was already set up or not - if it fails, then not.
I get the following exception loading any Xaml in my project:

This occurs even when I generate a new SilverLight project inside my solution, but not in a brand new solution. I've found that I am not the only person with this issue, and was wondering if you had any ideas for me.
Here is a post of someone with the same error, from Google Cache.
The stack trace is indicating you don't have a reference to the specified log4net assembly in your project. The solution would be to add a reference to it, although unless you get a log4net assembly that has been compiled against the Silverlight agCLR runtime you won't be able to.
The alternative if you are not trying to use log4net in your Silverlight app is to remove the sections of code attempting to use it. Again from the stack trace it looks like you are setting up some kind of resource that initialises log4net. Try opening your Windox.xaml and take a look in the reources section. If you see any signs of log4net there remove them and see if it helps.
I also am getting this error. I have gone through the application and made sure I am referencing the correct version. There is no use of log4net in the silverlight application, only in the web project containing a wcf service that the app uses. It looks like log4net has to be replaced with something safer. The log4net dll is also causing mstest projects to stop working.
'/Microsoft.VisualStudio.Xaml;Component/MS/Internal/Designer/PropertyEditing/Resources/StylesCore.Constants.xaml' value cannot be assigned to property 'Source' of object 'System.Windows.ResourceDictionary'. Could not load file or assembly 'log4net, Version=1.2.10.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1b44e1d426115821' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Error at object 'ResourceDictionary_2' in markup file 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Xaml;component/MS/Internal/Designer/PropertyEditing/Resources/StylesCore.xaml'.
I have no idea what the couse of the problem is. If anyone knows I would be interested find out!
I have a workaround though which solved it for me:
Remove the reference from the Silverlight project to whatever is using log4net
Remove that project using log4net from the solution.
Reload the XAML-pages and save the solution.
Finally add the project using log4net and the reference again.
