When viewing submitted changelists in p4v, is there a way to display a particular changelist number? That is, how I do the equivalent of p4 describe in p4v? Can I filter for a particular changelist number? I don't see how.
Search > Go To...
In the dialog, you can go to a submitted changelist by number.
In my version of P4, this is under Edit > Go To...
And of course for the keyboard freaks ("mouse? I don't need no mouse") you can hit CTRL + G.
Hi All,
It I used CTRL + G and then I was prmopted to provide the change list number.
Please note you have to select the options from Scroll down Menu.
In this case it is:
Submitted Change List
Pending change list
Branch Mapping
Label
Workspace
User
Job
Like Eric, I use Edit > Go To...
Optionally, in the History pane on the left side of the window, you can double click on a changelist in the list and it'll open the details for just that changelist in a new window (same window you'll see with Edit > Go To...).
Note for this, in the newest version of P4V, the "Pending" and "Submitted" change types are combined in the goto dialog. Now there is just "Changelist" and it figures out which one it is by the number you enter.
Also we can view # tab "Search" -> Go To.. in newer versions of P4V. AS mentioned above or "Ctlr+G "

If I split the IDE into 2 sides, the tab list is duplicated. Is there any way to hide the one in the middle of the screen, to save space and make it easier to compare the 2 files?
Sure. I can see a few possible options actually.
1. Use more appropriate Compare Files functionality: look for Compare with... action in the context menu.
For example:
Locate and select 2 files in the Project View, use context menu and choose Compare Files action.
... or select one file and use Compare with... -- now point to the 2nd file via file chooser dialog.
... or copy contents of one of the files into the Clipboard and then use Compare with Clipboard... in your Editor context menu (currently opened file).
NOTE: You can edit/merge files in Differences Viewer screen; when you exit it the changes will remain until auto-save or manual Save is called.
2. Do not display list of the opened tabs on the right side: put it at the top/bottom or temporarily hide it completely (until you are done with your comparing task).
You can change the tabs position quickly at any time via Help | Find Action... (or Search Everywhere via Shift + Shift) and search for tab placement -- it can then be changed right from there without the need to go into the Settings/Preferences screen (use the appropriate ON/OFF toggle).
Everytime reopen my android studio project all entries of the left tree get closed. How to avoid that / or open them with one click instead of open one by one?
Directly show:
Instead of:
Open the selected file and Use "Scroll from Source" to directly navigate to the required file
Another way to expand entire directory structure is to click/select any folder from where you want to expand the sub directories and click-hold right arrow button, this will do the job.
You can click on the item you want to expand and press number pad's * button. This will expand all the folders in that level of the tree. Any sub folders will need to be expanded though. Answer from here.
Best way is to go to Android Studio Preferences and search for Fully Expand Tree Node. There you can either add abbreviation specific to you or new shortcut. Usually you select package you want to expand and search with double pressing Shift then you hit it or use that shortcut and every sub directory or package will get expanded. There is no delay its instant.
In Visual Studio 2012, I want different context for Ctrl+F and Ctrl+Shift+F. However, when I enter data in the Ctrl+F dialog (in the upper right corner of the text editor), it synchronizes that information to the dialog shown by Ctrl+Shift+F. I don't want that. I want Ctrl+Shift+F to do a search in the Entire Solution for now and forever. How can I disconnect these dialogs? I'm using Resharper 7.1 and VSCommands11, if that changes things.
(And why does Ctrl+F take three seconds to show the dialog in the upper right corner? It bugs me when I press Ctrl+F and start typing only to find that it changes my source file.)
Open the options-window. (Tools->Options). In the tree on the left side select Environmend->Keyboard. There are two entries relevant for you:
Edit.Find is for the Search-Box at the right upper corner (Ctrl+F)
Edit.FindinFiles is for the SearchDialog (Ctrl+Shift+F)
Maybe any of your VisualStudio-Extension has set these Commands to other commands.
In my studio both searches are separated from each other. If I set Entire Solution in the Ctrl+Shif+F-Dialog, that does not affect the Ctrl+F-Dialog
Please try this: Tools/Options/Environment/Keyboard > click reset button
When performing integrations, sometimes you need to merge files. The old Perforce GUI (P4Win) had a nice Ctrl+M hotkey I could use to run my merge tool quckly and easily.
In P4V, I find I need to right-click the file, click on Resolve, and then click on Run Merge Tool. Alternatively I can right click, O, O, Enter, and then click on Run Merge tool. This is a pain, especially when I need to resolve dozens of files.
Is there a way to make it better?
Right-click on your pending changelist and select "Resolve Files..." That will walk you through each file.
In the Perforce realm, the P4Win GUI is now "legacy" and the new P4V is supposed to fill in the void (and it does, most of the time).
There was one very useful (albeit rather hidden) option in P4Win that allowed adding a depot path to the client specification in a few clicks.
Is there a similar option available in P4V? ... because I can't find it.
(I know I can do it manually.)
Here is the P4Win feature, in all its glory:
This is typical for the P4 GUI (old and new) - it can do lots of things, if only you knew where to look (hint: usually not where you'd expect to find it).
There IS an option in P4V similar to the old 'Add Files to client view' from P4Win, only a lot more powerful! (it's a bit hidden and IMO not as streamlined as the original)
You can't find it in the depot view, where you probably ARE when you need it. Instead, go to Workspaces view, right-click the workspace definition and 'Edit' it (or dbl-click it then click 'Edit').
Notice the tabs on top of the 'Workspace editor' window that just opened. Select the 'View' tab. There is a lot going on here, including (apparently) information on the new 'Offline' mode.
To get to the point: in this window, find the piece of depot you need and right-click it.
Nirvana! There are no less than 6 menu options (!) that allow you to specify how and what to add OR remove to/from the workspace definition.
There's even an 'advanced' mode that looks a bit scary :-&
For P4V version : Rev. Perforce Visual Client/LINUX26X86_64/2012.1/490402
Released on 2012 July 02
Do as follows
Go to Connections -> Edit Current Workspace
In the Basic tab , Workspace Mappings , Right click on the tree and Include Tree.
I don't think that there is, you need to open the Workspace view and make your changes there.
Edit your workspace and change the view to include the relevant directory. Although I use P4V everyday and 'Add to client view' seems to ring a bell....
Of note, they added this feature into the P4V client at some point. You can now right click on a path in the depot tab and choose "Map to Workspace View...". It will bring up the workspace editor with the path added.
