.htaccess redirect to a directory - .htaccess

This is a very silly question but I am pretty weak in htaccess.
I want all files (php, css, javascripts and images) located at http://localhost/template/* to point to http://localhost/* along with a 404 Error Handler that is located at http://localhost/tempalte/404.php
I almost got it here but when I change
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(css|php|js|png|gif) template/$1 [NC,L] to
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(css|php|js|png|gif) template/$1.$2 [NC,L]
I get an internal server error.
# BEGIN website
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(css|php|js|png|gif) template/$1 [NC,L]
</IfModule>
Options -Indexes
# END website

Edited to reflect comments, try this:
# BEGIN website
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^(.*\.(css|php|js|png|gif)) template/$1 [NC,L]
</IfModule>
Options -Indexes
# END website

How do you redirect all request to public/ folder in laravel 5

I have a classic Larevel 5 project structure and I need to redirect all requests to public/.
I am on a classic hosting environment so public/ is a subfolder of my document root.
I shall imagine it can be done via .htaccess but I still need to figure out how. Anyone can help?
Thanks
There are two solutions:
1. Using .htaccess with mod_rewrite
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^public
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/$1 [L]
2. You can add a index.php file containing the following code and put it under your root Laravel folder (public_html folder).
<?php
header('Location: public/');
You don't need to change anything in Laravel's default public/.htaccess file.
Just create a new .htaccess in the same level your public folder and add the following content to it:
DirectoryIndex index.php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^$ public/index.php [L]
RewriteRule ^((?!public/).*)$ public/$1 [L,NC]
That simple!
This is an extract from another answer which may also help you.

Modify your public_html/.htaccess to redirect all requests to the public subfolder.
# public_html/.htaccess
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
# Redirect All Requests To The Subfolder
RewriteRule ^ /public
</IfModule>
Make sure you have the proper public_html/public/.htaccess (GitHub).
# public_html/public/.htaccess
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
# Redirect Trailing Slashes If Not A Folder...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# Handle Front Controller...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
# Handle Authorization Header
RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization}
RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
</IfModule>
If you use cPanel, then:
1.Go to folder:
/var/cpanel/userdata/my_domain
2.Edit the both domains:
my.domain and my.domain_SSL
Add to the documentroot section /public:
documentroot: /home/user/public_html/public
3.Rebuild Apache config:
/scripts/rebuildhttpdconf && service httpd restart
if you using apache , add .htaccess file to your root directory with this lines :
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^public
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/$1 [L]
and make sure your apache redirect and rewrite modules is working fine .
you can use vhost to redirect the all request to your public directory with set public as root of your project .
The ideal scenario is to have /home/user/public as a symlink from /home/user/laravel/public.

Laravel Pretty URL's wont work

I'm trying to remove 'index.php' of my project's url, but nothing works. I've been messing up with my .htaccess for weeks, but nothing.. nothing works! I have no idea of what is wrong. mod_rewrite is indeed enabled. Here's the content of my .htaccess under public dir:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteBase /var/www/html/arquivos/index.php/
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
Options +FollowSymlinks -MultiViews
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
# Redirect Trailing Slashes...
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# Handle Front Controller...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
</IfModule>
Any suggestions? Thanks.
EDIT: My directory structure:
/var/www
laravelproject/
public/
index.php
main.cs
...
html/ (apache server public folder)
project (sym link to /var/www/laravelproject/public/)
I can access my project through this url:
localhost/project/index.php/
What i want to do is remove "index.php" out of my url.
I would just comment this but i can't. See if this can help in any way https://medium.com/laravel-news/the-simple-guide-to-deploy-laravel-5-application-on-shared-hosting-1a8d0aee923e#.nzycje9pc

.htaccess rewrite page with alias

I need to rewrite an url like /services/rental/faq-2/ so that the user (and robots) see /services/rental/faq/
This is my current .htaccess (it's Wordpress) with no successful rewrite:
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
RewriteRule ^/services/rental/faq/?$ /services/rental/faq-2/ [NC,L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
Any of the hints I searched actually worked, maybe rule order is important or (most probable) I have no idea on how to do it
Your external URL is /services/rental/faq[/]. This is the one produced by links in your pages, and is the one robots and users see. It is NOT produced by .htaccess -- .htaccess only sees incoming URIs.
Try moving your new RewriteRule up before all the other WordPress RewriteRules (after the RewriteBase).

.htaccess redirect not working with index.php of sub directory

I have a directory structure like root/user/confirm/index.php
I want to make redirect like
Redirect this url
http://www.site.com/user/confirm/ASd2sasda4ass
To this
http://www.site.com/user/confirm/index.php?confirm=ASd2sasda4ass
I am trying this way
RewriteRule /user/confirm/([^A-Za-z0-9])$ /user/confirm/index.php?confirm=$1 [L,QSA]
It redirects this url properly
http://www.site.com/user/confirm/index.php/ASd2sasda4ass
To
http://www.site.com/user/confirm/index.php?confirm=ASd2sasda4ass
But not working for this url without index.php
http://www.site.com/user/confirm/ASd2sasda4ass
It shows 404 not found error
Please see and suggest any possible way to do this.
Thanks.
UPDATE
Complete codes
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteRule /user/confirm/([^A-Za-z0-9])$ /user/confirm/index.php?confirm=$1 [L,QSA]
</IfModule>
Try this (without confirm.php in the url. You shouldn't need it anyway):
RewriteRule ^user/confirm/(.*)/? user_confirm.php?confirm=$1 [L]
I solved this issue by removing this rewrite rule from root .htaccess
RewriteRule ^/user/confirm/([^A-Za-z0-9])$ /user/confirm/index.php?confirm=$1 [L,QSA]
And placing another .htaccess file in confirm directory to hide index.php and processing query parameter there with following codes.
Options +FollowSymlinks
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?confirm=$1 [L]
</IfModule>
And now its working without index.php in url. Hope this helps others too with same issue.

is if else conditions available on htaccess?

I have a .htaccess file in the folder "services" in my website
and have to give two urls following
content of htaccess
#------------------------
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?n=$1 [L,QSA]
</IfModule>
$-------------------------
1. http://www.mysite.com/services/seo-work
2. http://www.mysite.com/services/online-editor
The 1st URL rewritten using htaccess like http://www.mysite.com/services/index.php?s=seo-work
This is working correct. but when i am uploading other file online-editor.php on the same folder "services", it is not working
so how the first url should show the page using index.php?s=seo-work if the page "online-editor.php" is not found in directory otherwise online-editor.php shoud show. I am programatically representing my problem below
if(IsFoundPageInDirectory(online-editor.php))
{
GoToUrl(http://www.mysite.com/services/online-editor.php)
}
else
{
GoToUrl(http://www.mysite.com/services/index.php?s=seo-work)
}
Please help me to get out of this problem
Advance thanks for your reply
There is not really if/else conditions with ifModule in Apache configuration, but you can use the test in 2 cases : !module & module, like this:
<IfModule !module>
# default directives
</IfModule>
<IfModule module>
# decorator directives
</IfModule>
Check default wordpress .htaccess file. I think you're missing checks for existing files and directories. Something like
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . index.php [L]
</IfModule>
Last I found answer.. thanks for the fist reply to lead me to get answer
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/$ $1.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?n=$1 [L,QSA]
</IfModule>
