Does anyone know where Databasic originates from, and any resources that could help me learn this language?
I'm assuming it's Basic but looking at some sample code there are database-specific features.

There is also DataBASIC that was developed by Metso Automation. It is a Basic variant that includes Database access commands, and has been used in Metso and Telvent products. I've been unable to find any Web resources on it, and depend on the documentation that comes with my Telvent product.

I need to create advanced search functionality for my Alfresco website to search by custom metadata.
Does Alfresco provide existing functionality for an advanced search or will I have to code this using a new WQS page with a search form and webscripts?

Given this information it is hard to tell how much effort it is to implement, but it sounds this could be done in a few hours - assuming you have a skilled developer.
Anyways, I would definitely not recommend to build a website based on quickstart unless you really feel comfortable coding "the Alfresco way" - that is Spring Surf and Alfresco Share. Of course you'll need some knowledge about how to code for the Repo as well. Keep in mind that quickstart as a best practice example is meant for educational purposes. Building on top of it most likely involves forking and starting your customization from there on. Before you decide to go this route, make sure a decent amount of your requirements are covered by quickstart.

I'm looking for good resources to refer to, when configuring geokettle. The docs folder in the installation does not contain a user guide. I have googled for tutorials to no avail. Searching community.pentaho.com does not seem to yield any useful results. The samples folder in the installation contains some examples but I haven't quite found what I am looking for:
For example, pulling data from a database and have it show on a map.
If on the other hand, it is better to use a separate geospatial analysis tool with the community edition of pentaho and integrate to the BI Server, your suggestions are also welcome.
Any form of reference will be accepted.

I am looking into the simplest way to integrate Wikipedia into a node.js app.
The requirements are to be able to search for entries and find entities in each entry.
Any known existing libs/methods for that?

There's a newly available open source parser for wiki text (http://sweble.org/) that might be useful to you if you roll your own solution. Of course that would require you downloading the wikipedia data dump, parsing, and storing entities in a db.
You could also look at dbpedia (http://dbpedia.org/About), though that would require integrating the rdf stack into your app (either running a local rdf repository or communicating with the often flaky online version via sparql).
One easy approach is to use a search engine api and restrict to site:wikipedia.org - e.g:
http://www.google.com/search?q=node.js+site%3Awikipedia.org

You won't be able to do this using HTML and CSS only (at least not in any sane way).
You will need a database of some sort (e.g. MySql, Microsoft Access etc) and you will need some sort of server-side scripting language such as PHP, .NET, Ruby etc.
I suggest picking a language and then finding some tutorials. Most tutorials will take you through using a database.
This is completely impossible using HTML and CSS only. You will have to use a server-side scripting language.

uForum is used to power the Our Umbraco community - so that's the current recommended forum package.
YAF is a fully-featured forum/bulletin-board web-application, which can be integrated with Umbraco (using an ASP.NET Membership Provider). Aside from that YAF is standalone.
Update: There is a new package called nForum.
I guess it depends on your requirements.
What features are lacking, clearly you know what you want so any guidance on what the forum should include will help.
Pretty much any asp.net based forum software would work with Umbraco. I guess the main thing would be the integration with the Membership provider in Umbraco. In this case Any forum software that could use a custom ASP.NET membership provider would integrate pretty much seamlessly.
There are plenty of opensource and commercial forum packages available for ASP.NET, just find one that matches your requirements and look at integrating it or running it alongside Umbraco.
