Configuring IIS 6.0 to execute cgi(.exe) - iis

I already create a virtual directory (cgi-bin) with permission : Scripts and Executable...
When I test : http://localhost/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe, I got 404 error, The page cannot be found
Am I supposed to Add a EXTENSION mapping to .exe files ? Which executable ?
Thanks!

I solved that:
Go to Web Service Extensions in the IIS service manager
Select Add a new web service extension. On the required files tab, add
C:\YourMapserverInstalldir\mapserv.exe
Set it to allow
Thanks anyway...

Yes, you will have to create an application mapping between the file name extension of your script and the script interpreter. Check out this link.

Hosting standalone web app in IIS (directing host name to local runnig web application)

There is a running stand alone web service running in windowserver its address http://localhost:1234, it starts running with double click of service.bat file,
In IIS, I have created a web site with hostname(myhostname) and set apps target folder as same path with service.bat,
and expected browsing from another computer like http://myhostname.com direct to this web app,
of course it doesnt work.. how can I achieve that?
IIS won't actively execute a bat file, unless executed with the help of asp.net applications. And for security reasons, by default iis will block access to the bat file, and you need to set the permissions of the application pool. Not only the bat file, but the exe file is the same. When executing the exe file with the asp.net application, you need to set the file in the folder and add the application pool as the executable.(You can refer to this answer)
If you want to redirect to localhost:1234 by myhostname.com,you can use url rewrite or redirect module ,then enable proxy in arr. This is detail steps.

Error 403.14 when serving page from IIS

This is very simple to reproduce:
Create a new VM (xtra small in my case, tried both Windows 2012
and 2008R2)
Install IIS using default config.
Create a Web Site using IIS Manager specifying a folder such as
C:\inetpub\simple.
Using Windows Explorer, create a new file called index.txt
Rename the file to index.htm
Edit the file with Notepad to make it a basic but valid html5
document and Save.
From IIS Manager, select the new website and click the Browse
Website link on the right side of the screen.
I get:
HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden
The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.
Now look at the Contents of the web site in IIS Manager and you will see that the file has a .txt extension pasted onto the end : index.htm.txt
This does not happen on my local server.
I am new to Azure and probably missing something very basic but right now I feel like I am going insane. Can anyone put me out of my misery?
This is IIS configuration issue, not Azure specific. And I would not even say it is an issue at all.
index.html is not in the list of default documents for IIS. And has never been. index.htm however is. You get 403.14 forbidden, because Directory Browsing is by default forbidden in IIS. Again, absolutely typical IIS configuration which hasn't changed for ages!
Your solutions:
Configure index.html to be in default documents (read how to do this here)
enable directory browsing (read how to do it here)
For the sake of others as stupid as me, this is all down to Windows Explorer configuration. Normally, the first thing that I do with a new Windows install is to turn off 'Hide known filename extensions'. This time I forgot.

What is this vague error with 'redirection.config' while building a Web Deploy package?

I'm trying to build a Web Deploy package via msbuild on a new machine and it's not working. It builds fine on other machines, but here I get the following vague error:
...\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(2767,5): error : Filename: redirection.config
...\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(2767,5): error : Error: Cannot read configuration file
...\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(2767,5): error :
...\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(2767,5): error : Unknown error (0x80005000)
I'm not sure what 'redirection.config' is, and the line reference to the .targets file doesn't help at all.
How can I fix this?
redirection.config is a file that lives in the IIS configuration directory, typically %SystemRoot%\System32\inetsrv\config. Here are two possibilities:
The account building your project doesn't have access to the IIS config dir. This might happen if you have an automated build identity with special permissions, or you if you need to start Visual Studio as an administrator.
You don't have IIS installed at all on the new machine. Check to be sure the IIS config directory, and redirection.config in particular, even exist. If not, you'll need to install IIS.
If you receive this error when deploying with Release Managment (via IISConfig.exe) be sure that the deployment agent service account is in the local Administrators group. You may need to restart the deployment agent service.

For me, simply running visual studio as admin gave it the elevated permissions it needed to operate against this folder.
May work for others.
I got this error when I tried to use a relative path for the contentPath setting. I fixed it by settings the contentPath to the full path of the folder. Without the full path, the contentPath provider thinks it is a site path or application path and looks for it in in the IIS configuration.
This error just appeared to me when my C# project was referencing the Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.9.0.0 assembly. It looks like this assembly only works with IIS Express. For IIS, we must use Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.0.0.0.
After hours of testing and troubleshooting this problem turned out to be an issue with the users profile.
This was found by logging in as myself and I didn't receive the same issue.
To fix this issue:
Log into the machine as an administrator and delete the contents of the corrupt profile from C:\Users (or rename the folder to username.OLD)
Open up the registry and navigate here – HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Find the corrupt profile and rename this to .OLD or remove it.
You can read more about it at this article.
As this is high in search engines when looking for this error, I'll post my solution.
I used Azure Pipelines to release the app to IIS and had this error. My issue was that I mistakenly used Build Agent job instead of Deployment Group job when configuring the release pipeline.
On server 2012 this error can be caused by UAC which needs to be disabled via the registry.
This article explains why...
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13953.windows-server-2012-deactivating-uac.aspx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system
change DWORD "EnableLUA" from 1 to 0

Orchard CMS Module Install with IISExpress Fails because of permissions

I keep getting the "There was an error installing the requested package. This can happen if the server does not have write access to the '~/Modules' or '~/Themes' folder of the web site. If the site is running in shared hosted environement, adding write access to these folders sometimes needs to be done manually through the Hoster control panel. Once Themes and Modules have been installed, it is recommended to remove write access to these folders." message when trying to install a module from the Gallery.
I've given the IIS_WPG full control of the Orchard.Web\Modules directory and it worked yesterday, but it doesn't today.
I'm running from Visual Studio 2010 SP1 and IIS Express.
EDIT: I've made sure the gallery path is: http://packages.orchardproject.net/FeedService.svc/
I came across the same issue. We had a custom theme and I had to change the version from 1 to 1.0 in the theme.txt file. Then I was able to install a module.
I fixed this problem by doing this:
Change the app pool user to NetworkService or to a custom user you
create. (I was using IIS not IIS Express)
Grant read/write permissions to the user on the folders (Modules and
Themes).
Make sure Dashboard > Settings > Gallery url is
http://packages.orchardproject.net/FeedService.svc/
That fixed it for me. Using ApplicationPoolIdentity did not work, even when I gave it the appropriate permissions (not sure why).
I hope that helps.

How to run classic ASP scripts under IIS 5.1 (WinXP Pro) alongside .NET & CF?

I'm running into a problem setting up my development environment. I've been working on ColdFusion and .NET applications up until recently I haven't needed to touch IIS. Now, I have to set up a classic ASP application for some one-off work.
I added a virtual directory in IIS and pointed it at the actual codebase on my local machine. I then set the security to low (for ISAPI extensions, i.e. ASP) and allowed for script execution. For some reason though, if I hit any .asp page it says the page cannot be found. However, HTML and static files load up just fine.
EDIT: URLScan fix seems to have done it. Fired up the app in another browser (i.e. not IE6), and I'm getting better error reporting. Looks like we're missing some includes, but it is executing the scripts. Thanks!
You need to make sure that the "Active Server Pages" web service extension is set to an allowed status.
Check out: http://classicasp.aspfaq.com/general/why-does-iis-hang-and/or-stop-serving-asp-pages.html
Also, you should be aware that a virtual directory may affect the include file paths in the asp pages themselves. If the original asp application does not use a virtual directory, then your local copy shouldn't either.
Take a look at your URL scan settings and see if .asp is an allowed file extension
On my XP machine the relevant file is located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\urlscan\urlscan.ini
