How to repair Resharper? - resharper

I have problem with Resharper - all it's menu options are greyed, no shortcuts working...
I've tried run installer with repair option - no success
Also tried uninstall / install back - same.. :(

Can someone advice how to make it working back?

I had a similar problem with VS2010 and version 5.1.1753.4 of ReSharper. ReSharper is shown as "Not Loaded" in VS2010 About box and no ReSharper menu is visible. After multiple install/uninstall/register MSXML6/attempts of ReSharper, I finally figured out that:
A REINSTALL DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY RE-ENABLE RESHARPER IF IT WAS DISABLED AT THE TIME OF DEINSTALLATION!
So the simple fix is just got to Tools.Options.ReSharper.General in VS2010 and enable it again.

In case ReSharper is listed as [Not Loaded] under Help > About Visual Studio, this most likely means that msxml6 component registration is broken. To fix this problem, just re-install MS XML Core services 6.

Tools -> Import and Export Settings -> Reset all settings

See if it's even loaded by ticking the checkbox it in the Tools → Add-in Manager.

Visual Studio crashing when trying to diff or compare files

I'm using TFS for source control and the other day I undocked my laptop while running VS. I couldn't connect to the internet and then unfortunately there was an unexpected shutdown. Since then I have not been able to go into pending changes and compare the file to it's previous version. When I do, it crashes Visual Studio.
I can change the user tool in Options > Source Control > Visual Studio Team Foundation Server to use a third party diff checker and it works no problem. However, I've gotten used to Visual Studio's diff checker and would like to continue using it, if only because it doesn't open a separate window to diff in.
Since I'm not sure as to the source of the problem, my question is two-fold:
First, how do I fix Visual Studio's diff checker and stop it from crashing every time I try to compare with previous version.
Or, if the issue lies with TFS, why is it crashing and how do I fix it?
Click on Visual Studio Menu:
TOOLS > Options
Then on Left Panel:
Text Editor > HTML > Advanced
And finally on Right Panel:
Extension Management > Identify Helpful Extensions
Change this setting to false.
This is an old question, but I needed to fix this recently, so the bug still exists!
I solved this problem by going to Tools -> Options -> Source control -> Plug-in Selection and changing the plug-in to "Git"
Try to disable ability to Identify Helpful Extensions:
Go to Tools->Options->Text Editor->Html->Advanced->Extension Management->Identify Helpful Extensions and switch to false.
You can start VS in safe mode with "/SafeMode" param.

In android studio,cannot load 2 facets-unknown facet type:android and android-gradle

When I open android studio I am getting an error- "Error loading project: Cannot load 2 facets. When I clicked to see the error the following appeared
"2 facets cannot be loaded. You can mark them them as ignored to suppress this error notification.
Unknown facet type:'android', Unknown facet type:'android-gradle'
I tried to add facets ( In Project Structure > Project settings > Modules > clicked project name, then clicked Android as well as Android-Gradle) But both showed as "cannot load facet, unknown facet type." Under Project settings > Facets > both Android and Android-Gradle are displayed as 'Invalid facets'.
My project was running smoothly. This problem occured when I force-closed my laptop before exiting android studio as everything got stuck. After that whenever I open the android studio this problem occurs. I am not able to run my project. Can anyone please help me to solve this?
Just enable Android Support plugin.
Click Ctrl+Alt+S in Windows or Meta+Comma in Mac.
In top search bar type "plugin".
On right side it will show a list of plugins, find Android Support plugin, check it and click OK at the bottom of screen.
This is how it looks:
In Android Studio go to
File -> Settings - > Plugins -> Enable "Android Support" Plugin.
File, Then Settings->Plugin->Enable/Renable Plugin --> Apply --> Restart
This problem occured when i'd updated Android Studio.
In case nothing from other answers works, you don't have another option, except removing broken settings and making clean setup.
So what i am suggesting:
Use Settings Repository Feature to store personal IDE settings
close studio
remove .AndroidStudioX folder from user folder
re-launch studio, do not copy settings from previous version (because settings probably broken and auto-import couldn't import it well)
import personal settings from Settings Repository
For me I went to Settings -> Plugins and de-selected Gradle then immediately re-selected it. Android Studio then asked if I wanted to enable Groovy so I said yes and let it restart and now everything is happy again! (it was checked, but clearly somewhere deep down not truly enabled, so toggling the check-box sorted it)
Not sure if my cause was installing Flutter, but I did have to disable the Flutter plugin before I could build again.
I had the same problem with an ever-increasing number of facets - first 2, then 4, then 5 - and none of the above solutions worked. My solution (Android Studio 3.3, OS X) was to delete ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio3.3/disabled_plugins.txt, which contained org.jetbrains.android and org.jetbrains.maven
I imagine if you have deliberately disabled plugins then you'll have to disable them again manually, but I was able to load all facets again.
Go To ->File->Settings->Plugins->disable/enable Android Support Plugins->Press Ok
Just re-enable Android Support plugin. Then it will ask to restart.

I faced this issue in Android Studio 3.2.1 I had to re-import my project after that it works.
I was facing this problem, I tried everything but nothing worked but then I remembered that I updated Android Studio just few hours back and then I enabled the plugins in the Android Studio and restarted it and it worked.
File -> Settings -> Plugin and then just press ok. It will ask to restart the android studio and please restart it.
For me I had to uncheck the plugin Android APK Support. I clicked Apply and then Ok to close the window. Android Studio prompted me to restart the program, and the program restarted. I checked the Android APK Support plugin again and restarted the program. And then I selected File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
Then it worked just fine.

VMDebugger add-in crashes each time Visual Studio opens up

I'm experiencing the following error each time I open up an instance of VS 2012, for about a week
(so it's not due to the yesterday's Update 4).
Even if I click Yes, the error is shown again when I re-open Visual Studio.
Anyway, the VMWare debugger seems to be correctly loaded
(actually I don't use it, it came with VMWare workstation).
I can't isolate a single operation that caused the error to start appearing.
Anyone is experiencing the same error?

For anyone who could not solve this problem by re-installing the VMWare plug-in but do not want to sacrifice all his VS settings, here is a solution that did work for me:
Export 'Menu and Command Bar Customizations' VS settings only using
Tools => Import and Export Settings... => Export selected environment settings
Deselect 'All Settings'
Select only 'All Settings/General Settings/Menu and Command Bar Customizations'
Open exported .vssettings file in a text editor, scroll to the end and remove the entry <add_toolbar Menu=... Name='VMware' .../> in the UserCustomizations section
Import edited .vssettings file using
Tools => Import and Export Settings... => Import selected environment settings
and restart Visual Studio to check if the error has gone.
I know this is an old thread, but I solved this problem with a rather simple step. Had the same scenario, clicking Yes in the popup window didn't change a thing.
What worked for me: you should start VS as an administrator, wait for the popup window and click Yes. After that the popup never came up again (even when VS was run as a non-administrator). So there was no need for me to uninstall the VMWare pluging (or the whole VMWare WS).
Run the VMware Workstation installer
Choose Modify/Change
Uncheck Visual Studio Plugin
Problem gone!
Run the VMware Workstation installer
Choose Modify/Change
Check Visual Studio Plugin
Problem back again!

one possible solution:
Tools => Import and Export Settings => Reset all settings
seems to work for me.
VS 2013
Tools > Customize.. > Toolbars
Here I selected VMware and clicked Delete button.
I really don't use this plugin, this was the easiest solution for me.
None of the solutions here worked for me since I have already uninstalled vmware a long time ago and I was not willing to re-install it again.
MSDN suggests that there should be a registry key under
Root\Software\Microsoft\Visual Studio\...\AddIns\...
for VMdebugger, just delete that entry (the whole folder) and it'll be gone.
This worked for me:
completely uninstall VMWare workstation, reinstall it (select or deselect the VS plugin as you wish)

Project dependencies not loading in Visual Studio 2012

I'm not sure if this is a add-on/extension issue but I'm having a heck of a time with Visual Studio 2012 on two computers. I believe it is DevExpress CodeRush causing the problems as it seems to work fine when I uninstall it but I'm not 100% sure.
I startup VS 2012, answer YES to the Get Latest from TFS 2012 and the solution right-click the solution node in the Solution Explorer and choose Project Dependencies... - it shows nothing checked. Of course the build will fail. I close and restart VS 2012 and then it shows. I typically do this through the course of the DevExpress option to clear the solution cache which causes the solution to reload.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may cause the project dependencies to get lost yet after a restart they are fine again? Is there something I need to delete and rebuild to try and resolve this?
The fix (so it seems) is to not check the option in VS source control settings to do a Get Latest when opening the solution. It seems to prevent the solution from initializing properly. I will consider reporting this to Microsoft Connect.
As I know CodeRush does not change anything in the Project Dependencies dialog. However you can write to DevExpress Support Center (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center) for a more detailed answer and research.
I also recommend you include a project and a video that illustrates the problem (if possible).
I was facing same issue. However got fixed after deleting .suo file from solution folder

Resharper 7 - Cannot create custom pattern

When I try to create a new "highlighting pattern" in Resharper, the typing inside the main textbox simply doesn't work. So I'm stuck with the default input (="3") and can't change it at all. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Apparently this problem disappeared after I have restarted my computer. Restarting Visual Studio alone didn't help.
For me restarting Visual Studio and not opening a solution did the trick. As soon as any solution is open, the main textbox becomes inoperable. This is even true after closing the solution.
Of course you can not save your changes to a solution that way.
I suspended R# (tools=>options=>resharper=>suspend), restarted vs, opened solution, re-enabled R#
