lookup values between date range - excel-formula

Good day,
I'm trying to use V&hLookup to get my values but I'm not sure if I'm using the correct formula.
I'm working of 2 sets of data (sheet1 and sheet2). Sheet1 the data is vertical (e.g. unique identifiers and dates) and sheet2 the dates are horizonal and values below. Both sheets have unique identifiers Vertically.
Question: On sheet1, I need to look up the values from sheet2, if there is not values then the formula must look at the next available value after the start date? I got the values as examples on sheet1 as to what it should be
E.g.
Sheet1
Key
Dates
Values
12345
01/01/2020
120.00
678910
01/02/2020
150.00
789456
01/03/2020
110.00
Sheet2
Key
01/01/2020
01/02/2020
03/04/2020
12345
120.00
0.00
150.00
678910
0.00
120.50
130.00
789456
160.00
120.00
110.00
Thanks a million.

Edited answer: suggested solution using MATCH(search_value,match_range,1) in combination with INDEX gave wrong results.
The following should do:
=INDEX(Sheet2!$A$1:$D$4,
MATCH(A5,Sheet2!$A$1:$A$4,0),
MATCH(
MIN(IF(Sheet2!$B$1:$D$1>=B5,Sheet2!$B$1:$D$1,"")),
Sheet2!$A$1:$D$1,
0))
Enter with ctrl+shift+enter in older Excel versions.
The row is found matching the Key-value and the column is found by matching the column where the date value in Sheet2 headers greater than or equal to search date value.
And when using Tables:
=INDEX(Table3,
MATCH([#Key],Table3[Key],0),
MATCH(
MIN(IFERROR(IF(--Table3[#Headers]>=[#Dates],--Table3[#Headers]),9^9)),
--Table3[#Headers],
0))
Where I needed to workaround the date headers becoming text instead of number values by adding leading -- to the value/range.

How to create a dynamic formula to find the average of a set of values for a given vector

I am trying to create a formula that gives me the average of the last 12 entries in a given dataset depending on the associated vector.
Let's make an example:
I have in column F2,G2,H2 and I2 dates, Company1, Company2 and Company3 respectively. Then from row3 to row 33 I have months dates starting from May 2016.
Date Company1 Company2 Company3
May-16 2,453,845
Jun-16 13,099,823
Jul-16 14,159,037
Aug-16 38,589,050 8,866,101
Sep-16 63,290,285 13,242,522
Oct-16 94,005,364 14,841,793
Nov-16 123,774,792 7,903,600 41,489,883
Dec-16 93,355,037 12,449,604 69,117,105
Jan-17 47,869,982 13,830,712 83,913,764
Feb-17 77,109,905 10,361,555 68,176,643
The goal is to create a formula that, when I drag it down, correctly calculates the average of the last 12 values for a given company.
So for example i would have, say in table "B2:C5":
Company1 76,856,345
Company2 11,120,859
Company3 65,674,349
And, if a new Company4 is added to the list, then I just have to drag it down the formula, to calculate the average of the last 12 months for Company4.
Until now, I have came up with this formula:
=AVERAGE(LOOKUP(LARGE(IF(ISNUMBER(G:G),ROW(G:G)),ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&MIN(12,COUNT(G:G))))),ROW(G:G),G:G ))
This formula correctly calculates the average of a given column, considering only the last 12 values. The last step would be to come up with a formula that includes all the columns and then calculates the average for the given company.
Thanks!
I recommend that you use a named range to define your data in columns G:I. When a company is added, just modify the named range's specs. I used the name Target. Of course, you can replace it with $G:$I if you feel so inclined but I would rather recommend reducing the number of rows in the range, which is easier to manage when it is named.
Use the formula below to extract the company names from the first row of Target into the first column of your averages table. This is to ensure that the names are spelled identically in both locations.
=INDEX(Target,1,ROW()-2)
The number 2 indicates the number of rows above the row containing the formula. it is copied here from cell M3. There, ROW()-2 creates the number 1, counting sequentially as the formula is copied down.
Now I have the formula below in my cell N3 and copied down.
=SUM(INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0)))
The formula simply sums up the columns G, H, and I in 3 consecutive rows.
In the final step I inserted the range definition established above, meaning excluding the SUM() function, into your existing formula.
=AVERAGE(LOOKUP(LARGE(IF(ISNUMBER(INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0))),ROW(INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0)))),ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&MIN(12,COUNT(INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0))))))),ROW(INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0))),INDEX(Target,0,MATCH($M3,INDEX(Target,1,0),0))))

Excel: How to add a column from other sheet based on a key column?

I have 2 list. Both have a lot of column. I would like to insert a column from Sheet2 to Sheet1 based on a ceratin key column. Also sheet2 have much more rows than sheet1 so it ll be inserted only partly and still there ll be elements with no matches. For an example:
Sheet1:
Names ID Car Color
John 1 Audi Empty
Andy 4 Toyota Empty
Mike 3 BMW Empty
Tony 2 Suzuki Empty
Sheet2:
ID Cost Color
6 200 Blue
3 200 Red
4 300 Green
5 100 Red
1 50 Black
I would like to get the "color" from Sheet2 to Sheet1 by using the "ID". Using Excel 2010. I suspect I need INDEX+MATCH combination, but the examples I can find are not detailed and more simple so I coudn't figure out how to use them.
How about inserting this formula on Column D in the first row, then dropping the formula down:
=VLOOKUP(B1,Sheet2!$1:$1048576,3,FALSE)
Or to find the column that contains "Color", use Index Match Match, as follows:
=INDEX(Sheet2!$1:$1048576,MATCH(Sheet1!B2,Sheet2!A:A,0),MATCH("Color",Sheet2!$1:$1,0))
This will find the value in Column B in Sheet2 and give you the row number, then it will find the Column that contains "Color" and return the Column number, with those two numbers Index will return your color.

Excel look up value in array, return next value

I would like to look up a value in a range and return the value in the next row, but can't quite figure out how to do this. I especially would like to do this with formulas rather than VBA, and preferably with built-in formulas than custom (VBA) formulas, due to macro security issues.
I'm using Excel 2010. My workbook has two worksheets, "assessment" and "lookup". In lookup, I have lookup tables.
"lookup" looks something like:
Column A Column B Column C
1 Sales Engineering Manufacturing
2 Alice Bobbie Charlie
3 Dawn Edgar Frank
4 George Holly Isabel
In "assessment," I have some some drop downs from which users select one name from each column in "lookup." Based on some other criteria, I then rank these and create a new, sorted list (using INDEX() and MATCH()) that produce the selected name and corresponding column name a new sort order
Column A Column B
10 Engineering Edgar
11 Sales Alice
What I'd like is to return the name from the next row.
Column C
10 Holly
11 Dawn
But I'm having real trouble figuring out how to get there.
Assuming lookups is located at B2:D5 (change as required) and the result data is at F2:H3 (change as required) enter this formula in cell H2 then copy down.
=INDEX(
INDEX($B$2:$D$5,0,MATCH($F2,$B$2:$D$2,0)),
1+MATCH($G2,
INDEX($B$2:$D$5,0,MATCH($F2,$B$2:$D$2,0)),0))

COUNTIFS with range criteria on different sheets

I have not read if there is a limitation with COUNTIFS function, but I am experiencing the following:
I want to count the number the number of times two conditions are true in a row. For example
Sheet 1
USERID DATE
SAM 12/1/2014
SAM 12/3/2014
SAM 12/4/2014
JON 12/3/2014
BOB 11/5/2014
Sheet 2
Dates to match against {12/3/2014, 12/4/2014, 12/5/2014}
Sheet 3
USERID DATECount
SAM 2
JON 1
BOB 0
If all this information is in the same sheet the following formula works (Assuming data in Sheet 1 is in columns A and B, and the data in Sheet 2 is in the first row D to F, and the data in Sheet 3 starts at D5.
=COUNTIFS(A:A,D5,B:B,"="&$D$1:$F$1)
Currently, to get over this, I have a SUM function and a COUNTIFS for each criteria in the range for criteria 2. But it's pretty ugly since there are 20 criteria.
What I trying to find is a more elegant way to do this, or if there is another function that can return the same results.
Note that the date range can change every month.
You need a SUMPRODUCT wrapper that will iterate the COUNTIFS results through the cells in Sheet2!$D$1:$F$1.

The formula in Sheet3!E5 is,
=SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIFS(Sheet1!A:A,D5,Sheet1!B:B,Sheet2!$D$1:$F$1))
Fill down as necessary.

Formula to Get data for a specific date

Date Time Country Desc
16/04/14 8.30 am India abcd
16/04/14 9.30 am India pqrs
17/04/14 9.30 am India xyz
17/04/14 10.30 am India abcd
I wish to get all the data of 16/04/14 in another sheet using formula. Vlookup takes only the first row data as reference is 16/04/14. Is there any other way to get data.
Try this then:
Assuming you have this data in Sheet1:
And you want to get all matches of dates in Sheet2 like this:
What you need to do is use this formula:
=IFERROR(INDEX(Sheet1!A$1:A$5,SMALL((IF(Sheet1!$A$1:$A$5=$E$1,ROW(Sheet1!A$1:A$5))),ROW($A1)),1),"")
Above is an Array Formula entered by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
Enter it in A2 then copy on the remaining cells.
For our example, I copied it until Row 10 (A2:D10).
Then you just need to type in the value you want displayed in E1 as shown in the picture.
Then all the columns will populate with the data that you need.
Hope this helps.
Important: The ranges in the formula needs to be adjusted to suit your needs.
