I am completely new to IIS and would like to host a website with a virtual directory.
I've got a working website A with domain https://mydomain.lan:3002, hosted using IIS in C:\inetpub\wwwroot.
I would like to serve PDF files from outside this webroot, namely from a
network share located at \\mynetworkshare\pdffiles, mounted as Y:\.
Website A is created in IIS Manager right under "Sites". I added the virtual directory, pointing to the mounted folder, aliasing it as pdf.
I can browse the virtual directory under pdf in IIS Manager just fine.
When I want to access these files using the website (https://mydomain.lan:3002/pdf), I get 500.19 - Internal Server Error.
What do I need to do to make it work?

I currently have an Azure VM running Windows Server 2016 hosting my Tableau Server. I want to add a simple website to the server through IIS that I can share files with my clients via a direct download link (e.g. a URL that would allow them to download a zip file, www.mycompany.com/file.zip).
Currently, when you visit my URL, it takes you to the Tableau Server instance. The website I want to add would basically be a subdirectory of that URL that hosts a file I have for my clients. So if my clients went to www.mycompany.com, they would be taken to my Tableau Server. However if they went to www.mycompany.com/files/, they would be allowed to download what ever file I attached to that URL.
I created a website under IIS Manager, but for the host name I am not allowed to use forward slashes. E.g. I want to create the website with the URL www.mycompany.com/files/, but have to use www.mycompany.com instead. I'm assuming I cannot use www.mycompany.com for my host name, as that would conflict with my Tableau Server.
How then do I create a website in the manner I am describing? Or is it possible to somehow create a subdirectory within Tableau Server's structure?
You can add virtual directory under website which host name is www.mycompany.com.
Set physical path, alias to files. Then you can access it through www.mycompany.com/files.
I have hosted WebAPI application on IIS server of windows server 2008 R2, which needs to access shared folder directory on a network path (\\servername\foldername) that is on another server.
I have enabled full permission on that folder for all users (everyone). But my webAPI is unable to access that shared folder.
I see Server.MapPath is not a part of web API and that there is a class system.web.hosting which implements HostingEnvironment.MapPath(network path string), tut this is just making the virtual to physical path and finally makes hosting environment as the root folder which is not what I require. I want to access shared folder on another server.
FYI the remote shared folder is in the same network domain.
Please help me how i can achieve it in C# and .NET 4.5 (not later than this)
I have a shared folder on a server that contains some files I want to be able to serve through IIS on a separate server.
I created a virtual directory pointing to the the shared folder in IIS, and have it use windows authentication.
The shared folder has "Everyone" set to have read permissions. When I try to open a file through localhost on the iis server, everything loads correctly, however when I substitute localhost with the actual name of my iis server it brings up an error
You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access
control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.
I opened up process monitor and saw I was getting Access Denied when the Network Service account (the account my app pool is set to run as) was being denied read permissions to the virtual directory. I implicitly added network service to the security permissions with read and write permissions and I still get the same error.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
I am using C#/ASP.NET, IIS6 on Windows Server 2003.
Map the data server shared folder to the WebServer with driver letter V:\
On the WebServer, IIS created a virtual directory and pointed to 'local location' with V:\ . Since there is no 'Connect As', not sure which USER will be used
In my WebMethod, I want to create file on the shared folder with FileStream.Write().
I got IO Exception on the action, any hint?
P.S. I have added ASPNET/NETWORK SERVICE on the data server shared folder.
thanks!
Gavin
Mapped network drives are specific to the user account that created them:
Using Mapped Drives with IIS - MS KB257174
The preferred method of accessing content for the Web server that exists on a remote computer is to use shares that follow the universal naming convention (UNC).
It's very likely that NETWORK SERVICE (or if you're running ASP.NET under impersonation, the site anonymous account) hasn't got this mapping.
To change the location where the virtual directory points to, browse to your site in IIS manager, right click on the virtual directory and select properties. You can then select "A share located on another computer":
The website in IIS has a corresponding app pool and this should tell you the user under which your code wil be running.
You'll the have to grant the appropriate permissions for that share for that user.
I've created a virtual folder for a folder residing at C:\Documents and Settings\..\Data
Remote users are able to see the base folder of the FTP site, but are unable to see the Virtual folder. Is sharing a folder in the path forbidden?

If you use ADS server means you can create virtual directory by setting Username,Password in ADS and you can access in remote place through ftp with created username,Password.
or
If you don't have ADS means you can change the Default FTP site Directory path manually, and you can access it from remote place. please find the attached screen shot.
