i'm trying to use Conan to dev a c++ project (on a debian 10.x 64 bits).
I've setup my conanfile.txt as follows :

But when i use conan install .. (inside a build directory ofc), i get the following error:
No package 'fontenc' found
I don't see any similar problems on google and i'm new to Conan so i'm a bit lost.

"package fontenc" means package config file fontenc.pc
The file fontenc.pc is provided by the Debian package libfontenc-dev : apt install libfontenc-dev https://packages.debian.org/search?searchon=contents&keywords=fontenc.pc

I built and installed some libraries into my CentOs 7.9. I guess I used --prefix=/usr when I configured. However, I found the version of the source code was inappropriate. So I decided to install the package by yum install. But I saw conflicts when I run this command. Seemed the libraries in the package are older than what was installed. I couldn't use yum remove to remove what had installed. Because they were not installed from the package. How to resolve the conflicts or force yum to install the package?
1. when u install it from source code
If u want to uninstall the package which was installed from source, actually it's hard to delete all the files u have installed when u put them in /user directory. But there is method: when the installation is finished, usually there is a 'install_mainfest.txt' file in your installation directory which logs all the files the installation generates.
so read this file, and delete all the files using:
xargs rm < install_manifest.txt
2. when u install it using yum install
Find all the rpm package then delete them using:
rpm -qa|grep "your software name u wanna delete"|xargs yum -y remove
By mistake i have deleted these libraries. I couldn't find a right way to reinstall it.

To fix it, i tried to follow these instructions, https://github.com/google/protobuf/blob/master/src/README.md
but ended up with different version. Now while compiling my code it throws this error. How can i get my previous version back?

I have facing same issue when downloading postgres in linux.
As i have followed some step from surfing some site.
I have download repository RPM first and its downloaded successfully.
then after in next step i have run below command
yum install postgresql10-server postgresql10
then getting below error
No package postgresql10-server available.
No package postgresql10 available.
in resolution of that i have run yum list command. and you can find out list of available software where postgres also mentioned so used specific name of postgres in command like
sudo yum install postgresql-server.x86_64
And it is working fine.
I'm running Fedora 19 x64, and
I'm trying to install xmobar via cabal install. After installing a bunch of dependencies, I'm stuck at

I can't find anything about this iw library and I'm a bit lost at how to continue.
I've got all of the standard c libs installed, as far as I can tell.

Under Ubuntu the same workaround:

was resolved though I thought that it can be also two libraries for C language build tools:
liwc : Tools for manipulating C source code
iwyu : Analyze #includes in C and C++ source files
after these additions & libiw-dev library new xmobar was compiled.
Libraries are packaged differently by your OS. For fedora, if you're missing library A, you often will find packages named libA and libA-devel. Luckily, you don't need to guess - instead just ask yum what packages has some file of interest. Below, I asked about the shared object file libiw.so.
yum whatprovides *libiw.so*

I'm surprised Fedora would install without these packages, but if that's the case then obtaining the packages is just a yum install command away.
For anyone trying to install xmobar through cabal on arch,
the missing package that includes iw is called wireless_tools.
You can install that with
pacman -S wireless_tools

I fixed this by sudo apt install libgdal-dev
Hope someone find this helpful. Some above answers seems to be outdated and lengthy.
In earlier versions (which had apt-get)
sudo apt-get install libgdal-dev
You need the -dev package with headers and shared library links for development besides the normal package for deployment. Two different use cases as far as the distro is concerned.
On my distribution:

and R CMD INSTALL rgdal_0.7-8.tar.gz works just fine as you would expect from a CRAN package given all the build-time checks at CRAN.
Update late 2016: As #JoshO'Brien points out in the comment
Minor update: Here in 2016, running Ubuntu 14.04.2, libgdal1h seems to
have replaced libgdal1(though libgdal1-dev is still needed). At least
I get an error to that effect when I attempted to apt-get install libgdal1
For Ubuntu 16.04 the corresponding line would be
sudo apt-get install libgdal1i
Such renaming of upstream libraries is common; something such as apt-cache search libgdal can help locate the current package names. The important key though is that the "abstract" development package libgdal-dev is all that is needed to build as it pulls the "concrete" current run-time package (here: libgdal1i) in via a dependency.
You can use apt-file package, to find which package contains the missing file you are looking for.
First install the apt-file using the command apt-get install apt-file Update apt-file using the command apt-file update Now you can use apt-file to find the missing file. apt-file search gdal-config
For my case, I got the same error when configuring grass-7.1 from svn. As shown below:
$ ./configure
...more...
checking whether to use GDAL... yes
checking for gdal-config... /usr/bin/gdal-config
...more....
./configure: 1: ./configure: /usr/bin/gdal-config: not found
./configure: 6093: test: =: unexpected operator
configure: error: *** Unable to locate GDAL library.
But, after looking for gdal-config file with apt-file as shown below, I was able to resolve the error, after installing the package libgdal1-dev
$ apt-file search gdal-config
Results
libgdal1-dev: /usr/bin/gdal-config
So I installed libgdal1-dev, as shown below:
$ sudo apt-get install libgdal1-dev
This happens because the configuration failed for package ‘rgdal’
so we have to install necessary dependencies.
The packages libgdal-dev and libproj-dev are required:
sudo apt-get install gdal-bin proj-bin libgdal-dev libproj-dev
Then install rgdal by
install.packages("rgdal")
Load rgdal by
library(rgdal)
On macOS
brew install gdal
removed the error
gdal-config not found

The same problem occurred today to me on a Linux CentOS 6.10 on which I do not have administration rights.
What I did:
a) Create a conda environment dedicated to my R version
conda create --name MYR
b) Activate the environment
source activate MYR
c) Install R
conda install -c conda-forge r-base
d) Install libgdal
conda install -c conda-forge libgdal
This solved the problem for me. My R version was 4.1.3. I guess other versions should work.
For manjora or archlinux, just try:
yay -S gdal
