Using ALT+Click to select text in columns with Notepad++ (Linux) - linux

I run Notepad++ both in Windows, and in Linux under Wine. In Windows, I can hold Alt and click/drag to select characters in a column rather than line-by-line.
In Linux, holding Alt and clicking doesn't select anything. Rather, it makes the cursor a hand tool which drags the window around.
Is there a setting to toggle on the alt-click column highlighting? I've poked around in the settings and keyboard shortcuts, but didn't find anything that looked relevant.
Thank you.

In case anyone else runs into this:
For Cinnamon desktop: go to Preferences > System Settings > Windows. Click on the Behavior tab. Change the "Special key to move and resize windows" from Alt to Disabled (or a different key).
Voila, alt-select works again in Notepad++!
(The Mint Forums answer linked above is for an older version but I have confirmed that this works on Mint 20.1 with Cinnamon 4.8.6.)

Alt button not detected on some keymap shortcut IntelliJ (elementaryOS 5.1.7

Settings
IntelliJ 2019.2 (same issue in 2020.2)
elementary OS 5.1.7.
AZERTY bluetooth Keyboard (Logitech K260)
French Keyboard Layout
French Input method
No custom configuration made either in IntelliJ or in the OS
Problem
The "Move Line Up/Down" shortcut I was using on Windows (Shift + Alt + Up/Down) is not working.
Description
On intelliJ, I opened Settings/Keymap window to check the shortcut was correctly set.
When trying to redefine this shortcut, the "Alt" button was not detected when pressed.
However, I can use it on elementaryOS (e.g. Alt+Tab is working).
On intellij, I can use some other shortcuts like "Alt + Up".
My OS were recently installed.
I already tried to put UK layout/input method with no success.
Two ideas:
system settings : something i missed in keyboard settings ? Don't know much about linux configurations.
IntelliJ option i'm missing.
Thanks.
Finally found the issue.
On elementaryOS,
Go to your Keyboard settings, select "Layout" tab.
On "Switch layout" options, change the default shortcut "Alt + Shift".
Then I am able to reuse this specific shortcut in IntelliJ.

Can't activate shortcut on intellij products

Description
I'm using some intellij products (WebStorm, PHPStorm) and Android Studio and have the same issue with both of theses.
I have an azerty keyboard, with a french layout.
I can type without issue in these softs, but I can't activate shortcuts.
When I try to activate a shortcut (e.g ctrl+z), the activated shortcut is ctrl+w.
the shortcut is correctly triggered, but with the wrong keyboard layout. It seems that when I type, my french keyboard is used, but when I want to use a shortcut, the english layout seems to be used.
Is this a known bug (if so, I've not found any mentions about it), or did I miss something?
What I've tried
I'm running on Fedora 29, with Gnome 3.
I've tried to see if it wasn't reproductible with others softs (e.g firefox/ vscode), and I can't reproduce this.
I've tried to see if it wasn't based on my keyboard settings, so I ran xev to monitor the output of pressed keys. I can't reproduce this issue.
In intellij settings, I've tried to set Keymap > Prefer key position over key char with national layout both true and false, it doesn't seem to change anything.
Current situation
Here is an exemple of a shortcut definition in Android Studio.
I pressed A to Y keys on my french keyboard (which output A,Z,E,R,T,Y), and then press the same keys with ctrl (which output ctrl+Q instead of ctrl+A and so on)
https://imgur.com/a/U4aFd7F
Expected situation (tl;dr)
I expect that when I press ctrl+a, the shortcut triggered inside intellij products is ctrl+a instead of ctrl+q
It is indeed a known bug: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-165950
In the bug report another workaround is mentioned for Gnome 3:
Re-order the languages in Settings > Language and Region tab, put English(US) first of the input source list.
I solved it by running setxkbmap fr. I don't know why this is required by intellij products, but it works.

VSCode "Open Containing Folder" shortcut broke on Linux Mint

I am trying to use the "Open Containing Folder" keyboard shortcut for VSCode.
I am running VSCode 1.23.1, on Linux Mint 18.3.
I have confirmed the command works correctly when I use the mouse to initiate from the context menu.
But when I use the Alt+Ctrl+R hotkey, it fails to work.
So either VSCode is broke or Linux Mint is eating that key combo.
I can not seem to confirm if the key combo is already assigned in Linux Mint. I have tried assigning that key combo to something else and it did not warn me that it is already mapped....so I assume it is not.
Left click on the file or folder first, then Ctrl+Alt+R should work.
If you're cursor is inside the text of the file, the shortcut will not work.
You may need to upgrade to VSCode Version 1.24.0.
Make sure US keyboard is first keyboard:

Default Excel keyboard shortcut CTRL + ALT + F5 no longer works

The Microsoft Excel keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+F5 to Refresh All was one of my favorites until it stopped working. Presently, when I enter that key combination nothing (as far as I can see) happens. I've had to live without it for so long that I can't recall if there was anything specific that was changed prior to it no longer working. Alt+F5 continues to work to Refresh a specific PivotTable, but that has limited value.
The version is Excel 2007.
How can I discover what is preventing Ctrl+Alt+F5 from working and restore its default functionality?
I solved this problem by disabling Intel Graphics hotkeys:
Right-click on the desktop, hover over the menu option "Graphics Options" > "Hot Keys" > click Disable.
I had the exact same issue described above, albeit on Excel 2013 then eventually worked out that the key combination Ctrl+Alt+F5 (as well as other Ctrl+Alt+Fn keys) is reserved by the Intel Graphics control panel. I'd never even noticed this program but it's accessible by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting 'Graphics Properties...'. The Intel Graphics control panel doesn't use Ctrl+Alt+F5 by default, but it still reserves it apparently. I can assure you that disabling the Intel Graphics hot keys allows me to be able to use Ctrl+Alt+F5 in Excel straight away.
Hope that helps!
By the way, this same solution is shown here for a different user problem:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/hotkeys-Alt-Ctrl-F1-Alt-Ctrl-F5-which-pre-install-application/td-p/1318777
Keyposé is a free download which displays keyboard shortcuts as you use them. This makes sure that your hardware and OS are working as expected. If you see your shortcut appear with this tool (or you can verify Ctrl+Alt+F5 work in other applications another way) then the change must be within Excel itself

Komodo-Edit select and then copy with mouse not working on Ubuntu 14.04

I'm using Komodo-edit on Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome fallback metacity window manager. Since upgrade from Ubuntu 13.10, select and copy using the mouse do not work. I can select the word or phrase with the left mouse but as soon as a I use right mouse click to copy or find, etc., the selection goes away. This forces me to select with mouse and then use keyboard shortcuts to complete the operation. Very inconvenient. I have since moved to Sublime Text but would prefer to use Komodo. Can anyone advise how to get mouse control working again? Thank you.
I switched to Unity and found that the mouse worked as expected. I have never adjusted to unity , but found a link that allowed me customize it to work more acceptably by installing cairo dock.
