I'm looking to create a reconciliation sub which will find a value in Spreadsheet A, Column A and return the corresponding value in Column B i.e. Column A = ID123; Column B = HELLO. The procedure will then find the same value in Spreadsheet B, Column A (in this example, ID123) and return the value in Column B. So ideally, I would like these 2 values to be side by side so that I can do a comparison. All I have so far is code that will return values from Column A but I am unable to return Column B. This is essentially a VLookup, but Vlookups have proven to be very consuming in VBA:
Sub findCell()
Dim ETLCell As String
Dim mifidCell As String
Dim last_row_A As Long
Dim last_row_B As Long
last_row_A = Worksheets("Spreadsheet A").UsedRange.Rows.Count
last_row_B = Worksheets("Spreadsheet B").UsedRange.Rows.Count
'Loop which returns the TRN beside each column
For i = 2 To last_row_A
ETLCell = Worksheets("Spreadsheet B").Columns("B:B").Find(What:=Worksheets("Spreadsheet A").Cells(i, 1).Value)
mifidCell = Worksheets("Spreadsheet A").Cells(i, 1).Value
Worksheets("Reconciliation").Cells(i, 1).Value = ETLCell
If ETLCell Is Nothing Then
ETLCell = "BLANK"
Worksheets("Reconciliation").Cells(i, 2).Value = "False"
Else
Worksheets("Reconciliation").Cells(i, 2).Value = "True"
End If
Next i
End Sub
I took a different approach than the one that you took to solve this issue. I tried embedding comments into the code to describe what is happening. Try reviewing it and see if you can incorporate it into your workbook, and write back with questions.
I stored the values from sheet B into a dictionary object for efficient lookup. This type of object holds a unique key, and a corresponding value. Then, I can loop over the Keys in sheet A, looking for them in sheet B, and then adding the values to the reconciliation.
Sub AnalyzeReconciliation()
Dim sht1 As Worksheet
Dim sht2 As Worksheet
Dim shtRecon As Worksheet
Dim rng1 As Range
Dim rng2 As Range
Dim cel As Range
Dim oDict As Object

Set sht2 = Worksheets("Worksheet B")
Set shtRecon = Worksheets("Reconciliation")
'I don't like using UsedRange. I find it to be unreliable
'Define the columns that you need, and find the last row
'using a method call similar to below
Set rng1 = sht1.Range("A2:B" & sht1.Range("A" & sht1.Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row)
Set rng2 = sht2.Range("A2:B" & sht2.Range("A" & sht2.Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row)
'Get a dictionary object holding unique values from sheet 2
'In my case, column A holds the Id, and column B holds the value
Set oDict = GetDictionary(rng2, 1, 2)
reconRow = 0
'Loop over each cel in sheet 1, column 1
'Look for the value in column 1 in the sheet 2 dictionary
'object, and then reconcile
For Each cel In Intersect(rng1, sht1.Columns(1))
'Get the next avail row in reconciliation sheet
reconRow = reconRow + 1
shtRecon.Range("A" & reconRow).Value = cel.Value
'Recon column B holds value from sheet 1, column B
shtRecon.Range("B" & reconRow).Value = cel.Offset(, 1).Value
'If Id is found in Sheet B dictionary, then take the value

I'm trying to check a range of cells for the value "X" and when the column name where the "X" was found is among an array I have previously specified, I want to have a helper column that would say TRUE otherwise say FALSE.
To illustrate, here's a sample table:
In my sample, I have this array that contains 3 values ( Math, English and History). If there is an X in any of the rows whose header name is in the array, I want the helper column to say TRUE otherwise FALSE. It doesn't have to be all of the values in the array, it can be at least only one.
Here is my code (my original file has more columns than my sample, so my code is liek this)
Sub add_helper()
' Adding helper column
Dim checking As Variant
checking = check_issue() -- this is another function, basically checking will contain the values I want to check in this case Math, English and History, i have confirmed this gets it successfully
Dim wks As Worksheet
Set wks = ActiveSheet
Dim rowRange As Range
Dim colRange As Range
Dim LastCol As Long
Dim LastRow As Long
LastRow = wks.Cells(wks.Rows.Count, "I").End(xlUp).row
Set rowRange = wks.Range("I2:AD" & LastRow)
Set colRange = wks.Range("I1:AD1")
'Loop through each row
For Each rrow In rowRange
Do
For Each cell In colRange
'Do something to each cell
If InStr(checking, cell.value) > 0 Then
If Cells(rrow.row, rrow.Column).value <> "" Then
wks.Range("AI" & rrow.row).value = "TRUE"
Exit For
Else
wks.Range("AI" & rrow.row).value = "FALSE"
End If
End If
Next cell
Loop Until wks.Range("AI" & rrow.row).value <> "TRUE"
Next rrow
End Sub
My code results to just having an input of true whenever there is an X without actually checking if the header column is in my array.
Did you try normal formulas in Excel? You could create a table (a ListObject) with the courses as your array values and the combine SUMPRODUCT with COUNTIF to output True/False in your helper column. Easy to update and adapt:
Notice the table at most right named T_COURSES. The formula in helper column is:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(COUNTIF(T_COURSES,$B$1:$E$1)>0)*--(B2:E2="x"))>0
It works perfectly and it autoupdates changing values:
Match Headers of Matches Against Values in Array
Option Explicit
Sub AddHelper()
Dim checking As Variant: checking = check_issue()
Dim ws As Worksheet: Set ws = ActiveSheet ' improve!
Dim hrg As Range: Set hrg = ws.Range("I1:AD1") ' Header Range
Dim drg As Range ' Data Range
Set drg = ws.Range("I2:AD" & ws.Cells(ws.Rows.Count, "I").End(xlUp).Row)
Dim crg As Range: Set crg = drg.EntireRow.Columns("AI") ' (Helper) Column Range
crg.Value = False
Dim rrg As Range, rCell As Range, r As Long, c As Long, IsFound As Boolean
For Each rrg In drg.Rows
r = r + 1 ' for the (helper) column range
c = 0 ' for the header range
For Each rCell In rrg.Cells
c = c + 1
If StrComp(CStr(rCell.Value), "x", vbTextCompare) = 0 Then
If IsNumeric(Application.Match(CStr(hrg.Cells(c)), checking, 0)) _
Then IsFound = True: Exit For
End If
Next rCell
If IsFound Then crg.Cells(r).Value = True: IsFound = False
Next rrg
End Sub

Hi,
Having these data:
Table 1 in "customers" sheet
Table 2 in "cars" sheet
I'm able to get the matching value of each row of "customers" to "cars" in a separate sheet "results".
However, I need to achieve 2 things:
Reporting in column A "results" sheet, the A column value of each respective row (therefore extracting this from the individual sheets of "customers" and "cars").
Having a similar table layout with headers denoting the respective columns of results
Col A= Customer/Inventory
Col B= Car
Col C= Color
Col D= Interior
I have been able to achieve up to this stage (pics) from the attached
Sub GenerateTable()
Dim selectedRows As Range
Set selectedRows = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("customers").Range("B2:D9")
Dim resultSheet As Worksheet
On Error Resume Next
Set resultSheet = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("results")
On Error GoTo 0
If resultSheet Is Nothing Then
Set resultSheet = ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Add(After:=ThisWorkbook.Sheets(ThisWorkbook.Sheets.Count))
resultSheet.Name = "results"
End If
resultSheet.Cells.Clear
Dim carsSheet As Worksheet
Set carsSheet = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("cars")
Dim carsRange As Range
Set carsRange = carsSheet.Range("B2:D13")
Dim rng As Range
Dim row As Range
Dim found As Range
Dim match As Boolean
Dim lastRow As Long
For Each row In selectedRows.Rows
match = False
For Each rng In carsRange.Rows
If row.Cells(1, 1) = rng.Cells(1, 1) And row.Cells(1, 2) = rng.Cells(1, 2) And row.Cells(1, 3) = rng.Cells(1, 3) Then
If match = False Then
lastRow = resultSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).row + 1
row.Copy resultSheet.Cells(lastRow, 1)
match = True
End If
rng.Copy resultSheet.Cells(lastRow + 1, 1)
lastRow = lastRow + 1
End If
Next rng
Next row

I'm looking to create a tool which will reconcile values across 3 spreadsheets. For example, Sheet1: ID = 123A, Country = IRELAND; Sheet2: ID = 123A, COUNTRY = UK; Sheet3: ID = 123A, COUNTRY = UK. If it does not match, we will get a FALSE value.
Currently, I have the capacity to reconcile 2 files in columns B & C in shtRecon and am looking to add a 3rd value in column D which will reconcile 3 files instead of 2.
In other words, when column B = column C, there are 0 errors, when column B <> column C, there is 1 error. I'd like it to be column B = column C = column D instead. I've included my working code for 2 column reconciliation beneath. Any ideas?

I've got three sheets - main,specimen and output in an excel workbook. The sheet main and speciment contain some information. Some of the information in two sheets are identical but few of them are not. My intention is to paste those information in output which are available in speciment but not in main.
I've tried like [currently it fills in lots of cells producing duplicates]:
Sub getData()
Dim cel As Range, celOne As Range, celTwo As Range
Dim ws As Worksheet: Set ws = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("main")
Dim ws1 As Worksheet: Set ws1 = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("specimen")
Dim ws2 As Worksheet: Set ws2 = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("output")
For Each cel In ws.Range("A2:A" & ws.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).row)
For Each celOne In ws1.Range("A2:A" & ws1.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).row)
If cel(1, 1) <> celOne(1, 1) Then ws2.Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).value = celOne(1, 1)
Next celOne
Next cel
End Sub
main contains:
UNIQUE ID FIRST NAME LAST NAME
A0000477 RICHARD NOEL AARONS
A0001032 DON WILLIAM ABBOTT
A0290191 REINHARDT WESTER CARLSON
A0290284 RICHARD WARREN CARLSON
A0002029 RAYMOND MAX ABEL
A0002864 DARRYL SCOTT ABLING
A0003916 GEORGES YOUSSEF ACCAOUI
specimen contains:
UNIQUE ID FIRST NAME LAST NAME
A0288761 ROBERT HOWARD CARLISLE
A0290284 RICHARD WARREN CARLSON
A0290688 THOMAS A CARLSTROM
A0002029 RAYMOND MAX ABEL
A0002864 DARRYL SCOTT ABLING
output should contain [EXPECTED]:
UNIQUE ID FIRST NAME LAST NAME
A0288761 ROBERT HOWARD CARLISLE
A0290688 THOMAS A CARLSTROM
How can I achieve that?
If you have the latest version of Excel, with the FILTER function and dynamic arrays, you can do this with an Excel formula.
I changed your Main and Specimen data into tables.
On the Output worksheet you can then enter this formula into a single cell:
=FILTER(specTbl,ISNA(MATCH(specTbl[UNIQUE ID],mnTbl[UNIQUE ID],0)))
The remaining fields will autopopulate with the results.
For a VBA solution, I like to use Dictionaries, and VBA arrays for speed.
'set reference to microsoft scripting runtime
' or use late-binding

Sub findMissing()

Dim dN As Dictionary, dM As Dictionary
Dim vMain As Variant, vSpec As Variant, vOut As Variant

Set wsSpec = .Worksheets("Specimen")
Set wsOut = .Worksheets("Output")
End With
'Read data into vba arrays for processing speed
With wsMain
vMain = .Range(.Cells(1, 1), .Cells(.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp)).Resize(columnsize:=3)
End With
With wsSpec
vSpec = .Range(.Cells(1, 1), .Cells(.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp)).Resize(columnsize:=3)
End With
'add ID to names dictionary
Set dN = New Dictionary
For I = 2 To UBound(vMain, 1)
dN.Add Key:=vMain(I, 1), Item:=I
Next I
'add missing ID's to missing dictionary
Set dM = New Dictionary
For I = 2 To UBound(vSpec, 1)
If Not dN.Exists(vSpec(I, 1)) Then
dM.Add Key:=vSpec(I, 1), Item:=WorksheetFunction.Index(vSpec, I, 0)
End If
Next I
'write results to output array
ReDim vOut(0 To dM.Count, 1 To 3)
vOut(0, 1) = "UNIQUE ID"
vOut(0, 2) = "FIRST NAME"
vOut(0, 3) = "LAST NAME"
I = 0
For Each v In dM.Keys
I = I + 1
vOut(I, 1) = dM(v)(1)
vOut(I, 2) = dM(v)(2)
vOut(I, 3) = dM(v)(3)
Next v
Dim R As Range
With wsOut
Set R = .Cells(1, 1)
Set R = R.Resize(UBound(vOut, 1) + 1, UBound(vOut, 2))
With R
.EntireColumn.Clear
.Value = vOut
.Style = "Output"
.EntireColumn.AutoFit
End With
End With
End Sub
Both show the same result (except the formula solution does not bring over the column headers; but you can do that with a formula =mnTbl[#Headers] in the cell above the original formula above).
Another option is to join the values of each row in each range and store them in arrays.
Then compare arrays and output the unique values.
In this case, your uniques come from evaluating the whole row, and not just the Unique ID.
Please read code's comments and adjust it to fit your needs.

For a project I am working on, I am attempting to copy a row from an excel spreadsheet, only if the correct criteria are met.
For example,
I need to copy a row that has the following items in them:
Fruit, Apple, True, Cell<4
I've tried using something like
Sub Database_RoundedRectangle1_Click()
Dim c As Range, i As Long
Dim SrchRng, strSearch
Set SrchRng = ActiveSheet.Range("A4:T60", ActiveSheet.Range("A60:T60").End(xlUp))
For Each strSearch In Array("Apple")
Set c = SrchRng.Find(strSearch, LookIn:=xlValues)
If Not c Is Nothing Then c.EntireRow.Copy
Sheets("Results").Paste
Next strSearch
End Sub
But the problem with this is that it only searches for a single criteria: Apple. I need the script to scan the whole row for all filters to be correct, then copy the row.
The script I used also only copies the row once, and does not seem to copy all rows that include Apple.
I am assuming that your data is consistent i.e. you are looking for Fruit in one column, Apple in another column and likewise for TRUE and <4.
Here in the code I am looking for Fruit in Column A, Apple in Column B, TRUE in Column C and <4 in Column D. You can change column numbers as required.
I've named the sheet where data is as Data and the sheet to paste copied rows as Results
Sub CopyRow()
Dim LastRowCurr As Long, LastRowResult As Long
Dim LastColumn As Long
Dim i As Long
Dim currWS As Worksheet, resultWS As Worksheet
Dim MyRange As Range
Set currWS = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Data") '---> sheet where data is
Set resultWS = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Results") '---> sheet to paste copied rows
lastRow = currWS.Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
LastRowResult = resultWS.Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
With currWS
For i = 4 To lastRow
'change column numbers in the below line as required
If .Cells(i, 1).Value = "Fruit" And .Cells(i, 2).Value = "Apple" And .Cells(i, 3).Value = True And .Cells(i, 4).Value < 4 Then
.Rows(i).Copy Destination:=resultWS.Range("A" & LastRowResult)
LastRowResult = LastRowResult + 1
End If
Next i
End With
End Sub
I guess this is what you want.
you have to add another loop for the .find function. On your Code it only looks once for Apples. What you have to do is, you have to add another loop and repeat the .find function until you this .find function gives your the first match again . Try something like this:
Sub Database_RoundedRectangle1_Click()
Dim c As Range, i As Long
Dim SrchRng, strSearch
Dim wsResults As Worksheet
Dim firstAddress
Set SrchRng = ActiveSheet.Range("A1:T60", ActiveSheet.Range("A60:T60").End(xlUp))
Set wsResults = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Results")
For Each strSearch In Array("Apple")
Set c = SrchRng.Find(strSearch, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlWhole)
If Not c Is Nothing Then
firstAddress = c.Address
Do
c.EntireRow.Copy wsResults.UsedRange.Cells(wsResults.UsedRange.Rows.Count + 1, 1)
Set c = SrchRng.FindNext(c)
Loop While Not c Is Nothing And c.Address <> firstAddress
End If
Next strSearch
End Sub
